Star Wars-Themed Lands Coming to Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts ANAHEIM, Calif. (Aug. 15, 2015) – Today at the D23 EXPO 2015, The Walt Disney Company Chairman and CEO Bob Iger announced to an audience of more than 7,500 fans that Star Wars-themed lands will be coming to Disneyland park in Anaheim, Calif., and Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Fla., allowing Star Wars fans to step into the stories from a galaxy far, far away. Ambitious plans to bring Star Wars to life in the two parks include creating Disney’s largest single themed land expansions ever at 14 acres each, transporting guests to a never-before- seen planet, a remote trading port and one of the last stops before wild space where Star Wars characters and their stories come to life. "I am thrilled to announce the next chapter in the long and exciting history between Disney Parks and Star Wars,” said Iger. “We are creating a jaw-dropping new world that represents our largest single themed land expansion ever. These new lands at Disneyland and Walt Disney World will transport guests to a whole new Star Wars planet, including an epic Star Wars adventure that puts you in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance.” These authentic lands will have two signature attractions. Along with the thrilling battle experience, another attraction puts guests behind the controls of one of the most recognizable ships in the galaxy, the Millennium Falcon, as they take on a customized secret mission. Iger also shared concept images of the Star Wars-themed lands, giving fans a glimpse at what is to come for Disney parks. The partnership between Disney and Lucasfilm dates back to 1987, when the successful Star Tours attraction, inspired by George Lucas’s legendary Star Wars film series, opened at Disneyland. The attraction was then redesigned, emerging as “Star Tours – The Adventures Continue” in 2011 and featuring more than 50 different story outcomes and the possibility to visit five different planets. For 60 years, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts has been delighting millions of people with fantastic storytelling, exceptional entertainment and extraordinary experiences, creating places where guests can make life-long memories with their friends and families. This park has been in transition the last few years as it adds more rides, shows, entertainment and restaurants, most notably with the opening of Toy Story Land in summer 2018 and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge on Aug. 29, 2019! The park is definitely getting busier — having a plan is key! This is the one park you definitely want to get to before opening and absolutely make sure to use FastPass+. Disney typically opens the park before the scheduled opening, although the time can vary depending on predicted crowds. We recommend arriving at least 30 minutes before park opening to sign your child up for Jedi Training (more on this below) and be one of the first to ride the most popular rides that don’t offer FastPass+ (or you don’t have reservations for). Most of Disney’s Hollywood Studios®’ shows run from 25 to 60 minutes, some with fixed times throughout the day. For the best seats, plan to arrive at least 25 minutes ahead of time. Character greeting locations are spread throughout the park, and FastPass+ is not available for many of them. If characters are a priority, we recommend adding them in to the morning mix after you ride your priority attractions. One opportunity your little one may not want to miss is the chance to participate in the Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple, held at fixed times throughout the day. Children ages 4 through 12 get to learn from a Jedi Master and see if they have what it takes to defeat Darth Vader! To get your child into one of the slots per show, you’ll need to sign up at the Indiana Jones Outpost between Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular! and 50’s Prime Time Cafe immediately at park opening.

By the Numbers Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge spans more than 14 acres, making it the largest single-themed land expansion in Disney Parks history. More than a dozen venues fill the land, including Resistance and First Order encampments, a spaceport and a bustling marketplace. Two attractions entice guests to live their own Star Warsadventures – Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. When guests enter the hangar bay of a Star Destroyer as part of Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, 50 First Order Stormtroopers are waiting to greet them. The Millennium Falcon docked in the Black Spire Outpost Spaceport measures more than 100 feet long. Among the ancient-looking spires across the land, the tallest is more than 130 feet high. The land was created with more than 200,000 square feet of rockwork and approximately 260,000 square feet of themed plaster. More than 7,000 props were created for the land.
