Apr 09, Anne rated it really liked it Shelves: graphic-novelsread-inhoopla. This was actually fantastic for a crossover event of this scope. Having said that, don't just pick this up without any previous knowledge of what's happening and expect it to make sense. That should go without saying, but. For fans who have been following Harbinger and Bloodshot in particular, this is quite HARBINGER VOL. 3: HARBINGER WARS TPB mash-up. For me, I'm reading this in tandem with Bloodshot HARBINGER VOL. 3: HARBINGER WARS TPB now an This was actually fantastic for a crossover event of this scope. It's been an eye-opening experience as to how big Valient's universe actually is! Recommended for Valiant fans! View all 14 comments. Once I realized that this book was an attempt by a publisher other than Marvel or DC to write super hero comics, I tried to hold back my normal knee jerk scoffing and read it with an open mind. The basic premise: A group of super powered kids are the pawns in a struggle between various factions trying to gain control of them. The bad : There are just too many players Once I realized that this book was an attempt by a publisher other than Marvel or DC to write super hero comics, I tried to hold back my normal knee jerk scoffing and read it with an open mind. The bad : There are just too many players here with similar agendas Save the kids! Corps was tossed into the story and who just wanted to kill them all, I felt a sense of joy. There were two groups of super powered individuals who were vying for the attention of the tykes, each had their own unique abilities Red head, dresses in bikini, has fire powers and a girl who flies and a big, strong guy, etc. The groups were related in some huge backstory way, too. The good : Before each issue Valiant provided a venn diagram or something on the inside cover to help keep track of the players. It was reasonably helpful. I got to exercise my arms going back and forth between pages, in my attempt to keep everyone straight. Some of the kids had interesting abilities: One girl could become an animal and because the kids were locked away and had nothing to watch but cartoons, the only type of animals she could conceptualize were cartoon animals. Another kid, each time he became frightened, his fear created a huge monster, who attacked and sometimes ate the other characters. The action was fairly well rendered and the art was above average. Very enjoyable and unique, if not a bit perplexing. Even while reading the Bloodshot and Harbinger tie-ins at the same time, I still found myself a bit confused. HARBINGER VOL. 3: HARBINGER WARS TPB were HARBINGER VOL. 3: HARBINGER WARS TPB many goddam characters, and they mostly looked the same. I like how it defied standard hero crossover tropes. I definitely felt like I was consuming a new and exciting p I was fortunate enough to interview the writer, Joshua Dysart, for our youtube channel. I definitely felt like I was consuming a new and exciting product rather than a big two knock off. The real winner was Toyo HARBINGER VOL. 3: HARBINGER WARS TPB. Over all, a cool action event and proof that Valiant can do a crossover interestingly. Jun 02, Geekritique rated it it was amazing. Find this and many more reviews at Geekritique! Harbinger Wars is a crossover event done right. My previous two reviews - Harbinger, Vol. Both series were among the first in Valiant Entertainment's rebirth, and as such have been heading towards a common endgame. And it's an all out war. Harbinger Wars collects issues Many different factions, each with their Find this and many more reviews at Geekritique! Many different factions, each with their own goals and many unknowingly with HARBINGER VOL. 3: HARBINGER WARS TPB same goalsdiverge from the get go, leading up to a massive convergence. To start, there's the former P. Project Rising Spirit. Then there's another group of freed P. We have the Renegades, a rebelious team led by Peter Stanchek that we grew to love and hate in the Harbinger series, and their goal is to be for a change by helping out Generation Zero from the war that will soon ensue. Then there's the Harbinger Foundation, led by the world's most powerful psiot Toyo Harada who wishes to capture the released psiots and incorporate them in his Harbinger Foundation. When that's not enough parties to keep track of, Valiant throws in a 5th - the HARBINGER VOL. 3: HARBINGER WARS TPB. Corps, mercenaries hired HARBINGER VOL. 3: HARBINGER WARS TPB eliminate all threat, child or no. Somehow, by the end of it all, you've still caught up with everyone. Naturally this all leads to a big confrontation in Las Vegas, and it HARBINGER VOL. 3: HARBINGER WARS TPB a spectacle to behold. A case can be made that the H. Corps is just a big bunch of bad though. As Harbinger Wars continues we find this makes it really hard to choose sides. As a reader used to good vs. But I can't help feeling a little let down that this doesn't end up being a team up between Bloodshot and The Renegades, who are both unknowingly on the same side of the fight - they just never communicate that point to each other. One would HARBINGER VOL. 3: HARBINGER WARS TPB that with the kids of Generation Zero and Bloodshot's crew finally getting back together, a ceasefire would HARBINGER VOL. 3: HARBINGER WARS TPB so that they can take out the larger evil. But wow. Even with some strange artist jumps, the story holds together better than most. As this is slated to be one of the films that Sony has signed on for, this makes me a very excited man. We're in for a show. This does include very gruesome moments, and isn't intended for all audiences. Reading this alongside Harbinger and Bloodshot was a feat and a half, but it isn't necessary. Read more Harbinger volume 2 introduces readers to a rag tag group of Psiots that join up with Peter Stanchek to stand against the Harbinger Foundation. Joshua Dysart does a fantastic job of providing the backstory and background for each character while simultaneously advancing the overall story of the book. The most standout feature of the first volume was Dysart's writing and this followup easily matches it. The downside is that the art is a bit inconsistent, and that can be expected given that a number of different artists worked on the volume. The real problem, though, is that there's one area where all the HARBINGER VOL. 3: HARBINGER WARS TPB were consistent: they are all quite bad at drawing Faith. I realize she's designed to be an overweight teenager, but she looks cartoonish in the best panels and awkwardly unrealistic in the worst ones. Overall, while the art isn't fantastic, Dysart's writing on what's turning into a fantastic series more than makes up for it. Valiant write the greatest comics ive ever read! If youve already read the first book you will know how good this is. The charecters are realistic and not like superheros they have real flaws and not just added to the story for flavour Where we left off: Peter Stanchek broke away from the Harbinger Foundation, and got severely beat down by Harada and his lead psiots in the process. If not for the timely rescue by newly activated Faith Hebert, he would be a stain on a sidewalk. Now… a very broken Peter seeks to make amends with the woman he horribly, horribly, horribly wronged — Kris Hathaway. In doing so, he opens her up to the true nature of Harada Global Conglomerates and the Harbinger Foundation. Realizing Harada stands for everything Kris is against, she spurs Peter into action, first, by seeking out potential psiots that Harada has deemed not worthy. Thus, the Renegades are born. What follows is a masterful tale re-introducing new versions of familiar characters into this new Valiant Universe. As much as I love the original Harbinger, this new series beats it in every way, and that includes the characters. Just wait till you see how she gets one over on Harada, which seems to shock him more than anyone! Also at play, the continued conflict between the Harbinger Foundation and Project Rising Spirit is developed further, and we see the first glimpses as to just how far back this conflict goes. More and more revelations to come will reveal just how interconnected this web is being weaved! With this interconnectedness, titles are eventually sent on collision courses with each other, and we get a prime example in the next trade… next up — Harbinger Wars! Valiant has done it again!! I really, really enjoyed this book!!! In this comic, i get to know more about the new characters that are being introduced and i'm glad i've stuck around. Pick up this comic because you do not know what you're missing. Harbinger Vol 2: The story gets even better. This story picks up where the first left off. The best thing about this book was the development of the characters. The first TPB served as a great introduction and backstory to Peter and Krisas well as introducing Faith, but this TPB knocks it out of the park with the introduction of Flamingo and Torque, as well as the continued development of Kris, Faith, and Peter, and the group dynamic of all of them. The five characters are remaining relatively true to their original namesakes from the s, but even after these few issues I feel like the book is much more rounded. The backgrounds of Torque and Flamingo are more developed, and I immediately have a better handle on them. There are some changes the changes in the Torque character are great, but I won't spoil them here. Faith is already showing her strength as a potential leader of the group, and she takes on the Harbinger Foundation by herself to save the others. And Kris is much more developed than previously, and her relationship with Peter is much more complex. The art is great as well. It is straightforward and to the point. There is a lot of detail in the art. The artists have toned it HARBINGER VOL. 3: HARBINGER WARS TPB somewhat and the characters are really starting to develop. It is great when you can read a and each character actually looks different from the others! This book is even better than the first TPB, and I am eagerly awaiting the next in the series. Strongly recommended for all comic fans. Each chapter brilliantly interweaves the plot with background stories on each character. By the end the book the whole team is formed but are they ready for their first battle when Project Rising HARBINGER VOL. 3: HARBINGER WARS TPB catches up with them? For me this book solidified Joshua Dysart as one of my absolute favourite writers in the comic book medium. They all do a great job HARBINGER VOL. 3: HARBINGER WARS TPB their sections of the book. I really can't recommend this book enough. It's hard to describe in words just how awesome this HARBINGER VOL. 3: HARBINGER WARS TPB is. By the end of it you'll know a lot more about these characters and you'll be dying to get your hands on volume 3. I enjoy volume two very much. I thought the art HARBINGER VOL. 3: HARBINGER WARS TPB the story was when thought out and I'm looking forward to HARBINGER VOL. 3: HARBINGER WARS TPB the next! So fingers crossed that vol 3 and the new crossover Harbinger Wars are as good if not better. I would recommend this to anyone who likes Scanners and the film Chronicle. Similar Products.
