MANAGEMENT TRAINING PROGRAMME The Higgins’ Management Training Programme was created to identify an array of young talent to work and develop careers within the Construction Industry and Built Environment. The programme allows individuals to get a taste for a number of core disciplines throughout the company before deciding on a discipline to specialise in. Once enrolled on the programme, flexible rotations allow trainees to spend 34 months in four different departments before selecting one area of the business to pursue their career. I contacted a number of construction companies whilst working part time and was fortunate to get offered MANAGEMENT an interview at Higgins. I joined three years ago as PreConstruction Management Trainee with the opportunity to complete a degree in Construction Management. I am TRAINEES really pleased I have taken this path as I am now getting on the job experience and learning, whilst getting paid and completing my degree. The degree is part time over five years, which is exactly the same length as the original full time degree but my career will be much more advanced once I have finished. After initially being office based, I am now working on site which I really enjoy. It has greatly increased my understanding of the job as I am not just looking at things on paper; I am able to see how elements work practically and where changes may need to be made in terms of the buildability. The company offers a great deal of support and mentoring and within my team, four or five have already gone through the same process and degree which really helps.
