Un Caso De Homonimia En El Género Sepidium Fabricius (Coleoptera, Tenebrionidae, Pimeliinae) Boletín de la Sociedad Entomológica Aragonesa (S.E.A.), nº 51 (31/12/2012): 283‒287. CONTRIBUCIÓN AL CONOCIMIENTO DEL GÉNERO TRACHYNOTUS LATREILLE: UN CASO DE HOMONIMIA EN EL GÉNERO SEPIDIUM FABRICIUS (COLEOPTERA, TENEBRIONIDAE, PIMELIINAE) Julio Ferrer1 & Juan Carlos Martínez Fernández2 1 Department of Entomology, Swedish Museum of Natural History, 10405 Stockholm, Suecia 2 Departamento de Zoología y Antropología física. Contribution to the knowledge of the genus Trachynotus Latreille: a case of homonymy in the genus Sepidium Fabricius (Coleoptera, Tenebrionidae, Pimeliinae) Abstract: The examination of the respective types and the hitherto unknown females has established that Sepidium elongatum Oli- vier, 1795 is not a variety of Trachynotus reticulatus (De Geer, 1778) but a valid species with only slight sexual dimorphism. Sepidium elongatum Olivier, 1795 is a primary homonym of Sepidium elongatum Mal, 1984, already used by Olivier (1775) for a South-African species today included in the genus Trachynotus Latreille, 1829: Trachynotus elongatus (Olivier, 1795). Primary homonymy, accor- ding the rules of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature, requires the replacement of the name Sepidium elongatum Mal, 1984 nom. preocc. by another name. The name Sepidium mali Ferrer & Martínez, nom. nov., is proposed to replace the homonym. The habitus and genitalia of both species and of Trachynotus reticulatus (De Geer) are given. It is thought that such periodic flushes and gradual decay are fundamental to the functioning of the animal populations of deserts. This notion was tested with litter-consuming darkling beetles, of which many species occur in the Namib. Beetles were trapped in buckets buried at ground level, identified, counted, and released. The numbers of most species changed with the quantity of litter, but some mainly fed on green grass and disappeared when this dried, while other species depended on the availability of moisture during winter. Several species required unusually heavy rainfalls to gradually increase their populations, while others the opposite, declining when wet, thriving when dry. All 26 beetle species experienced periods when their numbers were extremely low, but all Citation: Henschel, J.R. ELMETWALLY Insect classification and survey Dept., Plant Protection Res. Inst., ARC, Dokki, Giza (Manuscript received 30 November 2015) Abstract n updated checklistof the Egyptian species of the family Tenebrionidae (Coleoptera) is presented. The listincludes A about 397 species belonging to 5 subfamilies in 33 tribesbased on the records in literatures and material kept in the main reference insect collections of Egypt. Synonyms of some species and the recent taxonomic position are included. The taxa (subfamilies, tribes, genera and species) are arranged in alphabetical order. Key words: Coleoptera ,Tenebrionidae, Egypt . INTRODUCTION Family Tenebrionidae (Darkling beetles) is one of the largest families of order Coleoptera, icluding about20.000known species in nearly 1700 genera of worldwide distribution (Booth et al., 1990). Ten subfamiliesare accepted now for this family (Loble et al., 2008).The majority are entirely terrestrial and very common in desert and semi- desert areas and are found in rotten wood, under logs and stones, in termite and ant nests, on plant debris, in dry dung of animals and in houses and granaries. Many are generalist feeders on detritus whether of animal or plant material and few are predators. Few species are known to be agricultural or stored products pests. The scientific names and taxonomic position of many species was a subject of taxonomic change in the last decades as a result of more critical studies such as Bouchard et al (2005, 2007, 2009 and 2011). Lawrence and Newton (2005) who provided taxonomic data on the family group names of coleoptera including Tenebrionidae with studies on biology, phylogeny and classification of some families, subfamilies with selected genera of Coleoptera.

Biogeography, Coleoptera, Tenebrionidae, Mediterranean, Pleistocene, Sicily, species-area relationship Abstract. The tenebrionid beetles on 25 circum-Sicilian islands were studied to determine the influence of island geographical and landscape features on three main intercorrelated biogeographical patterns: (1) species richness, studied using species-area and spe- cies environment relationships, (2) species assemblage composition, investigated using Canonical Correspondence Analysis (CCA), and (3) inter-site faunal similarity, investigated using Canonical Correlation Analysis (CANCOR) applied to multidimensional scaling of inter-island faunal dissimilarities. Species richness was mostly influenced by island area and landscape heterogeneity (expressed using various indices of diversity based on land cover categories). When species identities were considered in the CCA, no substantial effect of landscape was detected. Current island isolation did not have a strong influence on species richness, but has a distinct effect in determining species assortments on the remotest islands. Historical influences of Pleistocene landbridge connections were not detectable in species richness relationships using geographical variables in species richness analyses or in assemblage gra- dients in the CCA, but emerged distinctly from inter-island similarities in the CANCOR.

Abstract The collection of type specimens belonging to the subfamily Pimeliinae (Coleoptera, Tene- brionidae) in the Natural Sciences Museum of Barcelona, Spain.— The type collection of the subfamily Pimeliinae (Coleoptera, Tenebrionidae) deposited in the Natural Sciences Museum of Barcelona, Spain, was organised, revised and documented. The collection contains 438 type specimens representing 140 different taxa. Of note is a considerable number of species belonging to a subfamily described by Francesc Español, Maurice Antoine, Zoltán Kaszab and Carlo Koch. In this paper we provide all the available information relating to these type specimens and for all taxa (species or subspecies) we give the following information: ori ginal and current taxonomic status, original citation of type material, the exact transcription of the original label, and the preservation condition of the specimen. We also discuss the differences between the original descriptions and labels. If a taxonomic change has occu rred, the references describing those changes are included at the end of the description.
