When Golf SA amalgamated in 2009 the events were combined to be played concurrently. The events include a stroke component with the leading qualifiers being awarded the SA Medal (men) & Vesta Cup (women). The winners of the match play component are declared the SA Amateur Champions. The SA Men’s Amateur Championship has an unbroken history dating back to the inception of the South Australian Golf Association (SAGA) in 1905. Records indicate that the Amateur Championship was played from 1900-1904, although not under the auspice of SAGA. The SA Women’s Amateur Championship dates to 1902 when it was played as the Ladies’ State Championship. It was conducted under the auspices of SAGA from 1905 to 1929 when the South Australian Ladies Golf Union (SALGU) was formed as a separate entity. The Rene Erichsen Salver (women) began in 1967 with the inaugural winner being Rhonda Watson. In 2009 the men’s event was renamed to the Golf SA Classic and was played in conjunction with the Rene Erichsen Salver – the first event of its kind to be played concurrently. The men’s trophy is named after John Crosby. John Crosby and Rhonda Watson were both inducted into the South Australian Golf Hall of Fame in 2011. The event is contested over 72 holes stroke play and is arguably South Australia’s most prestigious event. The event is both an Australian Order of Merit & World Ranking event. • A Royal Murder
A Royal Murder A Rebecca Keith Mystery Sandra Winter-Dewhirst The Open Rebecca he early morning light bathed the tall grass that lined the Teighteenth hole. Rebecca stopped the car on the entrance road, just before it crossed the fairway. She wound down the window. A slight sea breeze caressed her face, and the pungent blend of salt and seaweed wafted into the car. The day was already warm. The temperature was forecast to reach thirty- eight degrees Celsius by mid-afternoon. It was going to be a hot day for golf. Rebecca smiled to herself at the quirkiness of the prestigious Royal Adelaide Golf Club having an access road that crossed a fairway, as well as a passenger-train line that dissected the first and second holes and ran behind the thirteenth. There were no fences, boom gates, or barriers within the course to separate the train track from the golfers. She glanced over to her right, beyond the clubhouse, to the mound that supported the Adelaide-to-Grange railway line. ‘Only in Adelaide,’ she said quietly to herself. ‘It’s a wonder no one has been killed.’ As Rebecca drove the winding road to the car park, she saw festive bunting lining the verandah of the low-slung bungalow clubhouse. A group of golfers putted on the practice green immediately in front. Others were sitting on wicker chairs scattered along the deep verandah, and more were milling about 1 in an adjacent marquee. While Rebecca was excited about the day ahead, she also felt a tinge of anxiety but couldn’t put her finger on why.

  • The Melbourne University Union Handbook 1940
THE MELBOURNE UNIVERSITY UNION HANDBOOK 1940 1 COMPILED AND EDITED BY ALLAN MORRIS, LL.B. MELBOURNE UNIVERSITY PRESS FOR TIE MELBOURNE UNIVERSITY UNION FOREWORD HIS handbook is compiled and issued every yea auspices of the Board of Management of the Melbourne T Union. It is designed to act as a guide to the many act which are sponsored by the Board and to indicate to students the ways in which they can take the fullest advantage of their years at the University by playing their part in its communal life. A University exists for purposes wider than those of merely vocational training, important though these are. It exists for the production of men and women who, in addition to a thorough mastery of the technique of their chosen calling, have an attitude towards life which will make them citizens better than the average. That the State recognizes this is clear from the fact that it contributes each year about one-third of the University income, and that every student, whilst at the University, is, to a greater or lesser extent, supported by the State. It is, therefore, the duty of all students to recognize that they are privileged people and to qualify themselves for heightened responsibility as members of the community which is helping to pay for their education. This cannot be done by exclusive devotion to a narrow and specialized way of life— the life of the lecture room and the laboratory nor can it be done by using the University as a playground. I urge you to aim at a balanced life, compounded of a mixture of academic training, physical activity and participation in the life of the Union and the Clubs and Societies that centre round it.

Irrigation has been the only Rain Bird^ focus since 1933. Rain Bird was the first to install an irrigation system on a golf course, and the first to develop computerized central control. Sure, there are other central control systems on the market, but none can compare to Rain Bird's innovative features and reliable performance. Here are just two advantages Rain Bird has over the competition. When you take time to compare, you will discover many more. 1. Real-time, Two-way Communication—an instantaneous exchange of information between the field and the central control system. Competitive systems download the information first, then relay it back at a later time. What would you rather have—a burglar alarm that alerts you the moment an intruder enters your home, or one that lets you know long after the intruder has left? 2. Backward Compatibility—future upgrades to Rain Bird central control systems will be designed to work with today's products. Upgrading competitor systems is often difficult and will cost you more. What would you rather do—easily upgrade your system to take advantage of the most recent innovations, or continually reconfigure your system and pay the price? Purchase Only What You Need. Currently Rain Bird offers four Central Control System options— Cirrus", Nimbus" II, Stratus™ II and Stratus™ LT.
