  • It's Jerry's Birthday Chatham County Line
K k JULY 2014 VOL. 26 #7 H WOWHALL.ORG KWOW HALL NOTESK g k IT’S JERRY’S BIRTHDAY On Friday, August 1, KLCC and Dead Air present an evening to celebrate Jerry Garcia featuring two full sets by the Garcia Birthday Band. Jerry Garcia, famed lead guitarist, songwriter and singer for The Grateful Dead and the Jerry Garcia Band, among others, was born on August 1, 1941 in San Francisco, CA. Dead.net has this to say: “As lead guitarist in a rock environment, Jerry Garcia naturally got a lot of attention. But it was his warm, charismatic personality that earned him the affection of millions of Dead Heads. He picked up the guitar at the age of 15, played a little ‘50s rock and roll, then moved into the folk acoustic guitar era before becoming a bluegrass banjo player. Impressed by The Beatles and Stones, he and his friends formed a rock band called the Warlocks in late 1964 and debuted in 1965. As the band evolved from being blues-oriented to psychedelic/experi- mental to adding country and folk influences, his guitar stayed out front. His songwriting partnership with Robert Hunter led to many of the band’s most memorable songs, including “Dark Star”, “Uncle John’s Band” and the group’s only Top 10 hit, “Touch of Grey”. Over the years he was married three times and fathered four daughters. He died of a heart attack CHATHAM COUNTY LINE in 1995.” On Sunday, July 27, the Community Tightrope also marks a return to Sound Fans have kept the spirit of Jerry Garcia alive in their hearts, and have spread the spirit Center for the Performing Arts proudly wel- Pure Studios in Durham, NC, where the and the music to new generations.

  • Pet Shop Boys Have Finished Their New Album “Elysium” Which Will Be Released in September on Parlophone
2012-06-13 09:22 CEST PET SHOP BOYS HAVE FINISHED THEIR NEW ALBUM “ELYSIUM” WHICH WILL BE RELEASED IN SEPTEMBER ON PARLOPHONE. Pet Shop Boys recently returned to the UK from Los Angeles where they recorded their brand new studio album “Elysium” for release in September. The album was co-produced by Pet Shop Boys with the young American engineer/producer, Andrew Dawson, who has won three Grammy awards for his work on Kanye West’s albums. Further information on the album, including a confirmed release date, will follow. A single will be released to radio at the beginning of July but right now, to give a taste of the album’s sound, a short film for the album track “Invisible” can be viewed online at www.petshopboys.co.uk or on www.vevo.com. The film was made by renowned Los Angeles artist/film-maker Brian Bress. “Elysium” was recorded earlier this year during the three months Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe spent in Los Angeles. Producer Andrew Dawson recently said: “It was really exciting for me to work with Pet Shop Boys - the breadth of their career has been phenomenal. They both have incredible ideas and I’ve definitely learned a few tricks from them on making records”. Pet Shop Boys said today: “We wanted to make this album in a different environment. Despite frequent visits there we have never made an album in Los Angeles. Working there with Andrew Dawson has enabled us to make a very fresh-sounding album.” Like several tracks on “Elysium”, “Invisible” features backing vocals by veteran singers Oren, Maxine and Julie Waters whose long career spans sessions with The Jackson Five to Adele, and singer/songwriter James Fauntleroy.

  • 2017 ASCAP Annual Report
2017 ANNUAL REPORT Southern Avenue at the 2017 Sundance ASCAP Music Café; photo by Fred Hayes ASCAP is the world leader in performance royalties, advocacy and service for songwriters, composers and music publishers. Our mission is to cultivate a symbiotic relationship with all stakeholders in the music industry and to ensure that our music creator members, music users and music lovers around the world can thrive together. 2017 ANNUAL REPORT 2 CREATIVITY. COURAGE. COLLABORATION. A MESSAGE FROM ASCAP PRESIDENT AND CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD PAUL WILLIAMS: Creating music takes courage. As songwriters and composers, we all face that blank page every day and go exploring. Sometimes we go deep and face real pain, emotions and experiences that have hurt us in some way, and we seek to turn them into art, “ a piece of music, a song, a way to share what’s in your heart with others who may be feeling - or hurting - so that you can connect on a universal level. That’s brave. Or perhaps you feel good and you need to shout it from the rooftops. So you put all your love, passion and soul into your music, you set it to a beat, and you do whatever it takes to get it out into the world. You know the world is a hard place. But you also know that music makes the world a better place. And you know you were put on this earth to make music, and nothing is going to stand in your way. You make a commitment to yourself: This is who I am.

  • Brian Mcknight Evolution of a Man Album Download Better
brian mcknight evolution of a man album download Better. After the release of More Than Words, Brian McKnight established his own label, Brian McKnight Music, through the artist-friendly Kobalt Label Services, and went about making his third proper studio album outside the major-label system. Even more organic than what immediately preceded it, Better is filled with lively songs that are well crafted but don't seem the least bit fussed over. McKnight sounds like he's having as much fun as ever, gleefully flitting from falsetto disco-funk jams to lonesome, modern country-flavored ballads. It's all free and easy and allows for some whimsical moves, like the reggae backing on "Goodbye" and the tricky prog/pop-funk hybrid "Key 2 My Heart," the latter cut being where his love for Swedish trio Dirty Loops is most evident. There are occasional odd quirks, like the winking manner in which he slips "bitch" into the chorus of "Strut," and the way he throws a sharp curve, the tipsy newfound-love rocker "Just Enough," so early in the sequence. Several tracks do keep it simple and heartfelt, the qualities for which McKnight is most known, heard best on the humble title track, "Uh Oh Feeling," and "Like I Do." Mercifully, this material is a lot less erratic than the back cover typography (which displays McKnight's name as "B. McKnight," "B. Mcknight," "brian mcknight," "Brian McKnight," and "BRIAN MCKNIGHT"). Brian mcknight evolution of a man album download. It won't be long now until Brian McKnight unleashes his new album Evolution Of A Man (October 27th).
