Our old friend Jimmy Groovy showed up in costume and added to the pre-concert fun. Once inside the parking lot, Jerry Gontang played to the huge crowd In This Issue around the OCPHC event site. Bama Breeze Jimmy’s latest CD is scheduled to be released on October 10. Award winning bassist Glenn Worf, Mobile native Will Kimbrough, Little Feats’ Billy Payne, and Party At The End Of The World slide guitar master Sonny Landreth joined Jimmy and the resident Coral Weather With You Reefers in Key West last February at what was then the Party At The End Of The World. We knew better than to refer to it as such so early, but it Everybody's On The Phone was a working title. In between fishing and boating trips, and sampling the Whoop De Doo keys culinary offerings, “should I spend time on the treadmill or eat at Hogfish,” Jimmy and his talented troop started the “party” that ended as Nothin' But A Breeze “weather” in Mac McAnally’s studio in Muscle Shoals. Cinco De Mayo In Memphis All the talent trapped in the old ice house on Key West’s historic waterfront Reggabilly Hill set the substance for the new recording, and the style was added by Mac and Mr. Utley. Meanwhile, Jimmy was overseas watching World Cup soccer and Elvis Presley Blues hanging with Mark Knopfler – not exactly dire straits. A video was filmed last Hula Girl At Heart summer for the song “Bama Breeze” and Jimmy told the Boston Globe’s Steve Morse, “It's a tribute to those honky-tonks that line the Gulf Coast where Wheel Inside The Wheel I grew up on the Alabama, Mississippi, Florida coast of the Gulf. It's about Silver Wings the infamous Flora-Bama bar.

  • Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville
Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville Retail Store Focuses on Greening Business and Reducing Carbon Footprint In 2007, SSC conducted a Green Office Audit for Margaritaville, helping them to create a sustainability policy that provided a positive social and environmental influence for the Key West community. SSC spent two days onsite with the company and hosted a store-wide workshop on the concept of sustainability. As part of the audit, SSC conducted a carbon footprint analysis, developed a sustainability action plan, and provided a strategy document explaining the larger opportunities to embrace sustainability. Services provided also included a carbon footprint analysis, sustainability action plan, and stakeholder communications. The following is an article by Key West Citizen Staff, Anne-Margaret Sobota that summarizes the Margaritaville sustainability journey: “The Green Mile: Key West Business Goes the Extra Mile to Operate with the Environment in Mind” It’s hard to hear the word Margaritaville without the melody “Wasting away again in Margaritaville... ” drifting to mind. But Margaritaville is trying to convince its employees and customers not to “waste away” if they can help it. Margaritaville Store employees have been working with a sustainability consultant to find ways to “green” the business and reduce its carbon footprint. Sunshine Smith, who runs Margaritaville Store operations, said the company always has operated with the environment in mind, but wondered if more could be done. “We always did recycle,” said Denise Di Salvo, a Margaritaville Store employee and member of its Giving Back Committee, “It just wasn’t as formal or as organized.” A year ago, the Giving Back Committee decided to add Environmental Giving to its program of donating 5 percent of net profit back to the community every month.

  • Dauphin County Bar Association August Newsletter
Dauphin County Bar Association August Newsletter President’s Message Just One More… 'Searching is half the fun: life is much more manageable when thought of as a scavenger hunt as opposed to a surprise party.' ~ Jimmy Buffett. Summertime! 213 North Front Street I remember when just the thought of summertime was enough to brighten my day. As one with a mid-summer birthday Harrisburg, PA 17101 (July 24), I always anticipated the lazy, hazy, crazy days. It was not uncommon to be away on vacation for my birthday, (717) 232-7536 oftentimes relishing in the fun of Myrtle Beach. I continue to go to Myrtle Beach as an adult, though not as frequently, and I now truly appreciate why my father was exhausted after spending a week at the beach with three boys! I have but one child, who is now 22, but he possessed the energy and enthusiasm of a boy; and that's why they have a Margarittaville Board of Directors at Broadway on the Beach! Brett M. Woodburn In true Summertime-fashion, the DCBA has been picnicking like there is no tomorrow! A couple of weeks ago, the Young President Lawyers hosted the annual volleyball picnic at the Postal Grounds. Kim, Amanda, Leslie, Nicole, and a host of other Young Lawyers did a fantastic job this year! I had the opportunity to wander around and talk with people and enjoy the Jonathan W. Kunkel company of colleagues and friends... and to meet some new friends. There is nothing quite like a picnic to set the tone for President Elect the summer.

  • Roger Mcnamee, Zucked: Waking up to the Facebook Catastrophe, New York, NY: Penguin Press, 2019, 352 Pp., $28 (Hardcover)
International Journal of Communication 13(2019), Book Review 4169–4172 1932–8036/2019BKR0009 Roger McNamee, Zucked: Waking Up to the Facebook Catastrophe, New York, NY: Penguin Press, 2019, 352 pp., $28 (hardcover). Reviewed by Heidi E. Huntington West Texas A&M University, USA In 2016, Roger McNamee, a longtime tech insider and venture capitalist, began to notice something unusual happening on Facebook. He observed a rise in viral images and other fear- and anger-based content coming from political-oriented Facebook groups. His hunch was that “bad actors were exploiting Facebook’s architecture and business model to inflict harm on innocent people” (p. 5). As a onetime mentor to Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, McNamee felt he had to do something. Shortly before the 2016 U.S. election, McNamee reached out to Zuckerberg (whom he had advised not to sell Facebook back in 2006) and to COO Sheryl Sandberg (whom McNamee had suggested for the job) to alert them to his observations. Zucked: Waking Up to the Facebook Catastrophe tells the story of McNamee’s efforts to convince Facebook to change tactics regarding some key aspects of its platform to be more socially responsible, and his subsequent, unlikely journey into anti-Facebook activism when his concerns went unanswered among Facebook’s executives. A tech advocate, McNamee likens himself to Jimmy Stewart’s character in the classic 1954 film Rear Window, unwittingly drawn into taking an active role in an ongoing crisis. Zucked is part personal narrative, part doomsday prophecy, and part call to action. Its focus is also ultimately broader than a critique of Facebook alone, using McNamee’s experience with Facebook as an entry point to examine the role of big tech companies in society more generally.
