Dear[CUSTOMER]

Mars Wrigley has been notified by one of their suppliers of the potential presence of ethylene oxide (ETO) in one of the ingredients we use in some of our ice cream products at levels that are higher than permitted for this ingredient under UK law. Production using the affected ingredient has been halted.

It’s important to note that while the level of ETO in the affected ingredient is above the legal limits for this ingredient in the UK, the fact that we use only a small amount of this ingredient in our ice cream products means the level of ETO in the ice cream is minimal and far below the legal limits for this ingredient in the UK. Consuming the product will not be harmful.

Nevertheless, in collaboration with the FSA we are now working with our customers to withdraw the affected ice cream product from stores in the UK. A consumer-level recall is not required in this situation as consuming the products will not be harmful.

We would be grateful for your help in this by undertaking the actions below.

PRODUCTS TO BE WITHDRAWN

For your convenience, and to ensure we help reduce food wastage where possible, we have divided the list of products that we are asking you to withdraw from your stores into two parts.

The first (A) consists of product where we believe very little impacted stock remains ‘on shelf’, as we have been dispatching unaffected stock to customers since the beginning of July.

The second (B) consists of product where we believe a higher proportion of impacted stock is still within the control of our customers.

YOUR ACTION TO WITHDRAW PRODUCT

For relevant product in your warehouse or shop floor, please work with your account manager or sales representative to arrange for it to be returned to Mars Wrigley.

If you have any questions or concerns, please speak to your account manager or sales representative who will outline the options available to you.

For independent retailers who may have purchased impacted stock from you, we have attached a notice to be displayed in store, which outlines the steps we are asking them to take to return the product that has been withdrawn. If you have any questions, please speak to your account manager or sales representative.

PRODUCTS EXEMPT FROM HOLD

Please note that the ice cream products listed below do not need to be withdrawn: • ALL MARS BRANDED ICE CREAM PRODUCTS • Tubs/Pints: Mars, Snickers, Maltesers • Sticks: Skittles, Twix • Cones: M&M’s, Snickers

Please take no action in relation to these products. They can continue to be sold as normal.
