The CTF was CANADIAN founded in Saskatchewan in 1990 when the Association of Saskatchewan Taxpayers and the Resolution One Association TAXPAYERS of Alberta joined forces to create a national organization. FEDERATION Today, the CTF has 130,000 supporters nation-wide. The CTF maintains a federal office in Ottawa and regional offic- es in British Columbia, Alberta, Prairie (SK and MB), Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic. Regional offices conduct research and advocacy activities specific to their provinces in addition to acting as regional organizers of Canada-wide initiatives. CTF offices field hundreds of media interviews each month, hold press conferences and issue regular news releases, commentaries, online postings and publications to advocate on behalf of CTF supporters. CTF representatives speak at functions, make presentations to government, meet with poli- ticians, and organize petition drives, events and campaigns to mobilize citizens to affect public policy change. Each week CTF offices send out Let’s Talk Taxes commentaries to more than 800 media outlets and personalities across Canada. Challenging ESPN: How Fox Sports can play in ESPN’s Arena Kristopher M. Gundersen May 1, 2014 Professor Richard Linowes – Kogod School of Business University Honors Spring 2014 Gundersen 1 Abstract The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship ESPN has with the sports broadcasting industry. The study focuses on future prospects for the industry in relation to ESPN and its most prominent rival Fox Sports. It introduces significant players in the market aside from ESPN and Fox Sports and goes on to analyze the current industry conditions in the United States and abroad. To explore the future conditions for the market, the main method used was a SWOT analysis juxtaposing ESPN and Fox Sports. Ultimately, the study found that ESPN is primed to maintain its monopoly on the market for many years to come but Fox Sports is positioned well to compete with the industry behemoth down the road. In order to position itself alongside ESPN as a sports broadcasting power, Fox Sports needs to adjust its time horizon, improve its bids for broadcast rights, focus on the personalities of its shows, and partner with current popular athletes. Additionally, because Fox Sports has such a strong regional persona and presence outside of sports, it should leverage the relationship it has with those viewers to power its national network. Rather than look at the striking employees, the publisher of The Calgary Herald tends to stare straight ahead. This is nothing new, many of the striking journalists say. They believe Mr. Gaynor's newspaper has been looking in only one direction for years. More than 200 newsroom and distribution workers at the Herald have been on strike since last Monday. They are trying to win their first union contract and, officially, they are at odds with their employer over such issues as wages and seniority rights. But ask the news hounds why they are on strike and the issues on the bargaining table never come up. Instead, they say they are angry because the Herald shapes the news, sometimes to favour a certain person or a certain point of view. -

Doucet, Ph.D. March 2004 Vol. 5, No. 1 Ontario Universities, the Double Cohort, and the Maclean’s Rankings: The Legacy of the Harris/Eves Years, 1995-2003 Executive Summary The legacy of the Harris/Eves governments from 1995-2003 was to leave Ontario’s system of public universities tenth and last in Canada on many critical measures of quality, opportunity and accessibility. If comparisons are extended to American public universities, Ontario looks even worse. The impact of this legacy has been reflected in the Maclean’s magazine rankings of Canadian universities, which have shown Ontario universities, with a few notable exceptions, dropping in relation to their peers in the rest of the country. Elected in 1995 on a platform based on provincial income tax cuts of 30 per cent and a reduction in the role of government, the Progressive Conservative government of Premier Mike Harris set out quickly to alter the structure of both government and government services. Most government departments were ordered to produce smaller budgets, and the Ministry of Education and Training was no exception. Universities were among the hardest hit of Ontario’s transfer-payment agencies, with budgets cut by $329.1 million between 1995 and 1998, for a cumulative impact of $2.3 billion by 2003. -

Consequently, the Commission will return the application filed by Vista Radio Ltd. for a broadcasting licence to operate a commercial radio station in Timmins, Ontario. Introduction 1. In Broadcasting Notice of Consultation 2018-379, the Commission announced that it had received an application by Vista Radio Ltd. (Vista) to operate a commercial FM radio station in Timmins, Ontario. 2. The city of Timmins is located in northeastern Ontario approximately 280 kilometers north of Sudbury. The Timmins radio market is currently served by four commercial FM radio stations: the English-language stations CJQQ-FM and CKGB-FM, operated by Rogers Media Inc. (Rogers); the English-language station CHMT-FM, operated by Vista; and the French-language station CHYK-FM, operated by LE5 Communications Inc. (LE5). The market is also served by the Indigenous station CJWT-FM, operated by Wawatay Native Communications Society, as well as rebroadcasting transmitters of Sudbury stations belonging to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. 3. In accordance with Broadcasting Regulatory Policy 2014-554 (the Policy), the Commission called for comments on the capacity of Timmins to support a new station and the
