Dear Student: Bethpage State Park has five – 18 Hole courses that host hundreds of thousands of golfers each year. The Black Course has hosted two US Opens, two FedEx Cup Barclays Tournaments, the 2019 PGA Championship and will host the 2025 Ryder Cup. Our interns’ efforts are spent mainly on the Black Course, but they will spend time maintaining and improving each course at Bethpage. Bethpage is a unique, fast paced environment that will reward interns with practical skills that will provide a strong foundation for a career in turf management. We will tailor your internship to your skill set to improve your competence and confidence. The goal is providing quality daily conditions for our golfers. In addition to the core maintenance practices needed to maintain and prepare our courses interns are also trained to spray fairways, tees and greens, assist with irrigation repair and if weather allows, drainage and irrigation installation, bunker renovation and tee construction. In 2021, the Black Course plans to host regular outings and tournaments like the New York State Open, plus County High School and State High School championships. Our other courses will host the Met PGA Assistant Professionals, local university tournaments, plus the Women’s Long Island Amateur. We are also building new intern housing on site which offer excellent convenience. Applicants should be students who are ambitious, diligent and have a desire to become part of a crew with high standards. Interns will receive approximately $14.00 - $15.25 per hour DOE. A typical work week is roughly 50-70 hours with overtime being paid for all hours over 40. Internships are available from late January through November.
