Watkins Family Hour 2020-07-01 17:00 CEST Watkins Family Hour hygger om dig i VEGA VEGA, smash!bang!pow & Tønder Festival! præsenterer Watkins Family Hour hygger om dig i VEGA Søskendeparret Watkins har fundet tid til at lave nye folk-sange sammen, som du kan nyde i Lille VEGA fredag den 15. januar. Watkins Family Hour-projektet startede som et frirum, hvor søskendeparret Sara og Sean Watkins afprøvede nyt materiale og coverversioner. Med bluegrass og folk-sange i højsædet spillede duoen månedligt et show i Los Angeles med musikalske venner og gæster som Fiona Apple, Jackson Browne, Booker T. og skuespiller/sangeren John C. Reilly. Duoen udgav i april måned deres andet album Brother Sister, som de tager på tour med i 2021. Sean Watkins spiller hovedsageligt guitar og Sara Watkins violin. Flere af sangene tager udgangspunkt i et billede, der transcenderer sig selv og i sidste ende kommer til at handle om noget større. Åbningssangen på albummet ”The Cure” er for eksempel inspireret af Netflix- serien Tidying Up With Marie Kondo. Konceptet at skille sig af med ting er tydelig i teksten, men der er også en fortælling om at vide, at man er i et usundt forhold, som man undgår at reparere på. Duoens musikalske kemi er tydelig på sange som ”Layfayette” - en hyldest til Hollywood såvel som hjembyerne, der er blevet forladt af de ambitiøse, kommende stjerner. Den instrumentelle sang “Snow Tunnel” er inspireret af en køretur gennem Zion National Park, hvor Sean Watkins husker at komme ud på den anden side af en mørk tunnel til et fredfyldt panorama af sne. At bevæge sig fra et landskab til et andet – både bogstaveligt talt og musikalsk – er ikke noget nyt for søskendeparret. De fik deres gennembrud sammen i bandet Nickel Creek, som de vandt en grammy med og turnerede det meste af verdenen. Nickel Creek er dog p.t. på pause og Watkins-søskende har i mellemtiden spillet i diverse projekter, udgivet solomateriale og ikke mindst fundet tid til at skrive sammen igen. Created with families in mind, the personal project encompasses songs Sara embraced as a child herself and brings storytelling, solace, and encouragement to the listener, no matter the age. In addition to two stunning original songs, the album includes Sara’s renditions of “Pure Imagination” from the 1971 film Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory, The Beatles’ “Good Night,” “Moon River” (originally sung by Audrey Hepburn in the 1961 film Breakfast at Tiffany’s), and more. Under the Pepper Tree also reunites Sara’s Nickel Creek bandmates Chris Thile and her brother Sean on “Blue Shadows on the Trail” (from the 1986 comedy The Three Amigos), Sara’s I’m With Her bandmates Sarah Jarosz & Aoife O’Donovan on “Tumbling Tumbleweeds” (originally performed by Roy Rogers & Sons of the Pioneers), Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes on Harry Nilsson’s “Blanket for a Sail,” David Garza on Roy Orbison’s “Beautiful Dreamer,” and Sara’s now three-year old daughter on her immensely sweet rendition of The Sound of Music’s “Edelweiss.” Sara admits that she initially felt conflicted about making a children’s record until she realized that perhaps this album could impact a young listener in the same manner as the music from her own childhood affected her.

Sean Watkins Co-Founded Nickel Creek When He Was Just 12 Years
Sean Watkins co-founded Nickel Creek when he was just 12 years old, kickstarting a career that's taken him from the stage of the Grammy Awards to the top of the bluegrass charts. Along the way, he's become an award-winning guitarist, a singer/songwriter and a member of several different bands, not to mention one of the early pioneers of a genre now known across the world as Americana. Now, after 25 years of being either a band member of sideman, Watkins is throwing his full weight behind a new solo album, All I Do Is Lie. "It's a culmination of the past 10 years," he says of the record. "It was borne out of a drive to step out of supportive roles in bands. I do like backing up other artists, but in the last couple of years, I've started owning my own personality as a musician. I've had the urge to put my name on something and step out of the supporting role." Folk fans are already familiar with Nickel Creek's story. Formed decades ago as a bluegrass trio, the group expanding its sound — and its popularity — with albums like the Grammy- winning This Side, which became a crossover hit on the bluegrass, country and pop charts in 2002. Three years later, when Nickel Creek decided to take an open-ended break from the stu- dio, Watkins found himself with more time to focus on other projects. He made the most of it, forming an indie-folk duo called Fiction Family with Switchfoot's frontman, Jon Foreman, and launching a monthly variety show called the Watkins Family Hour with his sister.

WELCOME! Hi Folks. Welcome to DelFest. It seems impossible that this is the 10th annual event. I’m grateful and humbled that you continue to support what we do, and hope you appreciate the effort and time that goes into an event like this. Leading up to this year’s festival, we’ve been focusing heavily on the theme of “Family Reunion” and to us that’s what DelFest is. We see many familiar faces each year, some that have been coming to shows for 20+ years, along with some of our newer family - folks from local government, fans, friends, and supporters (especially the ones we call Del’s Army). We feel very fortunate that choosing the town of Cumberland brought you into our lives. We are glad to know each and everyone of you, and want to say a tremendous thank you for all of your support. While community is a big part of it, the music is where it starts. We are glad to have some of your favorites from the first nine DelFests back this year including Trey Anastasio Band, Railroad Earth, Steep Canyon Rangers, and our ever-present emcee, Joe Craven.
