The human resource system can become more effective by having a valid and accurate appraisal system used for rating performances of the employees. Unfortunately, the number of the organizations using an effective performance appraisal system is limited. Organizations are run and steered by people. It is through people that goals are set and objectives are realized. The performance of an organization is thus dependent upon the sum total of performance of its members. The success of an organization will therefore depend on its ability to measure accurately the performance of its members and use it objectively to optimize them as a vital resource. In the present highly competitive environment, organizations have to ensure peak performance of their employees continuously is in order to compete and survive at the market place effectively. The objective of the study was to determine the performance appraisal practices among commercial banks in Kenya. The population of the study was all the forty two commercial banks operating in Kenya. The study used primary data which was collected using self-administered questionnaires. The data was analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software. The findings of the study were that performance appraisal was carried out in the banks mostly on quarterly. The banks use performance appraisal for organizational development, employees’ performance, salary increment or distribution of rewards, has a motivational effect on workers’ performance, promotion, training, development and training needs identification and that performance appraisal is used in assessing employees’ commitment to organizational goals and objectives. The study found out that goal setting help to contribute to higher performance in the bank than only telling employees what to do and how to do and that the banks establishes goals that are perceived as challenging but realistic and to which there is higher level of commitment. Performance appraisal method used by the banks resulted in performance criteria/instruments used to measure employee performance being clearly defined, objective and employees in the bank undertake self reviews, graphic rating scale is used to appraise employees, merit/pay bonus allocations was a motivating and fair, behaviorally anchored rating scale method is undertaken in the bank and bank appraise employees using comparative ranking method. v TABLE OF CONTENTS DECLARATION................................................................................................................ ii • Karpe Diem, Cast, Stella Mwangi Og Samsaya Som Alle Har Minoritetsbakgrunn

Fifty-four years after Germany played host to the second ever Eurovision Song Contest, the musical jamboree comes to Düsseldorf this May. It’s a very different world since ARD staged the show in 1957 with just 10 nations in a small TV studio in Frankfurt. This year, a record 43 countries will take part in the three shows, with a potential audience of 35,000 live in the Esprit Arena. All 10 nations from 1957 will be on show in Germany, but only two of their languages survive. The creaky phone lines that provided the results from the 100 judges have been superseded by state of the art, pan-continental technology that involves all the 125 million viewers watching at home. It’s a very different show indeed. Back in 1957, Lys Assia attempted to defend her Eurovision crown and this year Germany’s Lena will become the third artist taking a crack at the same challenge.

  • Linguistic and Cultural Changes Throughout the History of the Eurovision Song Contest
Linguistic and cultural changes throughout the history of the Eurovision Song Contest Trabajo de Fin de Grado Lenguas Modernas y Traducción Facultad de Filosofía y Letras Written by: Sergio Lucas Rojo Tutored by: Irina Ursachi July 2020 Abstract This paper aims to clarify some of the linguistic problems that have arisen in recent years at the Eurovision Song Contest, one of the most important music events in the world. Through an exhaustive bibliographic review and the individual analysis of a large number of entries, it is concluded that linguistic diversity, an identifying feature of the show in the past, has been reduced by establishing a rule that does not oblige artists to sing in the language of the country they represent. English has taken over the reins of this annual competition, although there is still room for the traditional and the ethnic. The research that has been carried out is intended to serve as a reference for all Eurovision followers who wish to expand their knowledge. It also attempts to clarify concepts such as “linguistic diversity”, “identity” and “culture”, which can be extrapolated to other fields of knowledge. It must be noted that not only have linguistic issues been dealt with, but there are references to all the factors involved in the contest. However, it is those phenomena related to languages that form the backbone of the work. Key words: Eurovision Song Contest, languages, culture, identity, Europe, music.
