MCDONALDS

By Trym Hauknes and Fahmi Murhaban We are two boys who decided to write about McDonalds. We are going to taste different McDonalds meals, and compare them to other fast food restaurants and burger joints in the US.

About McDonalds McDonalds is an American fast food chain which mainly serves burgers. It was founded in 1940 and it was operated by Richard and Maurice McDonald. Now McDonalds is one of the largest restaurant chains in the world. They serve approximately 70 million people daily in 120 countries.

Reviews

All of these reviews are judged from our taste, and we know that you maybe don't feel the same way as us, but we hope you read this anyway.

Chicken Chicken Salsa is one of our favourite burgers from McDonalds. The crispness of the chicken and the chips fits very well with the fresh salad. The salsa adds even more flavour. We would give the chicken salsa a 4/6.

Cheeseburger Cheeseburger is the cheapest burger on the menu. The burger fits well if your hungry and want something cheap. The cheese- burger lacks a bit of flavour due to it not having much contents. We would give the cheeseburger a 2/6.

Filet-O-Fish

The Filet-O-Fish is a pretty good burger. It's a simple burger and contains only the fish, cheese and dressing. The contents of this burger creates a great taste. We would give this burger a 3/6.

Burger King - Crispy Chicken

Crispy Chicken is one of our favourite burgers at Burger King. The well fried chicken mix very well with the mayonnaise and the salad. All in all it's a great burger and we would give it a 5/6.

In-N-Out - Double-Double The Double-Double is a very big burger. It contains of two beef patties, but doesn't get too dry, due to it having salad and tomato. The cheese and the onions gives a lot of flavour to the burger. We would give this burger a 3,5/6.

Wendy's - Baconator The baconator is a pretty big burger with a lot of taste. The burger mix well with the all of its dressings. The bacon tops of the burger with its crispness and taste. We would give this burger a 5/6.

Conclusion about McDonalds After eating a lot of burgers from fast food chains in the US we've made our conclusion about McDonalds. We actually think that McDonalds is worse than some of the other fast food chains including Burger King. The burgers from McDonalds are good, but they aren't as good as the burgers from other places, in our opinion. What we like about McDonalds tough, is that the burgers aren't as expensive as the burgers from some of the other chains. We prefer burgers from other fast food chains, but if you like really fast and cheap food McDonalds is probably the thing for you. To sum up our experience with McDonalds we would give the fast food chain a combined score of 3/6 for it's food.

9. Fast food ON A TRIP IN CALIFORNIA

Written byMalin Photos by: Malin

In this article you will read about what you can do in California. You will see an example of a round tour where you travel to different cities, small towns, and tourist attractions.

Los Angeles We start our trip in Los Angeles, often called L.A.. Los Angeles has over 17 million citizens and is the second largest city in USA. It's a lot of traffic and people there. You will never feel alone. When you start your trip here can you stay at a hotel in Anaheim. It's more quiet there than it is near Venice Beach. Disneyland is located in Anaheim, so that's the first attraction we can go to.

Disneyland Disneyland is divided in two themeparks, Disney California Adventure and Disneyland Park. Disney California Adventure is for older kids, so we take that one.

Disneyland has many carousels. Everything from a big roller coaster to a little merry-go-round. You can be there all day and don't even get time to do everything. And it's not far away from a little food booth. Maybe it isn't so far away from a celebrity either.

In the evening is it a show by the little lake in the middle of the park. There are lights in different colours which illuminates on the water from many fontains. They have colours, pictures and music which makes a little fairytale. After the water show it is a firework show.

Universal Studios Universal Studios is located in the hills near West Hollywood. According to Google Maps it will take 40 minutes to drive from Anaheim to Universal Studios, but with all the traffic, it actually takes about 2 hours.

Universal Studios is a park where you can see and learn about how they make movies. There are some attractions their too, for example: the Simpson Ride, Special Effects show and a tour in the artificial city. One thing with Universial Studios is that they made a fake city where everything looks like a real city. It has been made many movies that artificial city. For example: The clocktower in the movie "Back to the Future" is there.

Venice and Huntington Beach The next day we can take a day of. Just cool of by the beach. Venice Beach is known for it's long boardwalk along the beach. You can walk many kilometres and look at the view and visit souvenir shops. Venice Beach is for people who like to have many other people around them.

Huntington on the other hand, is not as crowdy as Venice. Huntington is more quiet and you feel more comfortable beeing on that beach. It's not long to a diner, either. You just feel relaxed when you are there.

Monterey If we drive up the coast on Pacific Coast Highway, we will sooner or later reach Monterey. Monterey is a little town on the coast, about 5 hours north of L. A. The town is quiet, but nice. It is a little weird feeling when you are there because you don't exactly feel that you are in America.

Monterey is known for Monterey Bay Aquarium. It's a big aquarium where they of course have many sorts of fish and other sea animals. They even have sea otters. You can spend a whole day there.

San Francisco We drive for two hours up the coast to San Francisco. San Francisco is the fourth biggest city in USA with it's 800 000 citizens. There are many attractions to go to. For example: Fisherman's Wharf, Alcatraz, Golden Gate Bridge and Union Square. San Francisco is also a very good place to do some shopping.

Golden Gate Bridge Golden Gate Bridge is one if the most known bridges in the world. The 2.7 km long, red bridge connects San Francisco and Marin County. The bridge crosses Golden Gate which is the mouth of San Francisco Bay. Golden Gate Bridge was opened 27. May 1937. It has only been closed three times since it's opening because of wind.

Sequoia National Park We drive for four hours south-east and we will arrive Sequoia. Sequoia is a part of Kings Canyon National Park, located in the Sierra Nevada mountains. The world's biggest tree, General Sherman, is there. There are many national parks in California, but Yosemite is the most popular. Yes, it is very nice nature and mountains there, but it is so many people there. Sequoia on the other hand is a lot more quiet and has more "wilderness".

A little fact: Sequoia is known for their big trees, but the trees can't live close to other vegetation on the forest ground. The tree sort is called Giant Sequoia. Giant Sequoia has a special type of bark that doesn't burn, so they will start a forest fire and burn down the other vegetation in the forest ground. Then the Giant Sequoias will live in a good environment.

Back to Los Angeles After a long trip we drive back to L. A. Now can we visit Hollywood and Beverly Hills. These places are maybe best known for places were you can find celebrities. You can see the Walk of Fame, Madame Tussaud's and The Hollywood Sign. It's very smart to take a sightseeing tour, because then you can see and learn much about the city.

When we go home again are we probably tired of all the driving, since we have to go by car to everything we're going to do. But it has been a fantastic trip and we will never forget what we saw and learnt. Popular challenges in the USA

AMERICAN FOOD REVIEW

By Benjamin and Sebastian In this article you will find a food review of typical American food. In these two weeks we have been testing a Big Mac from McDonalds, Macaroni & and cheese and S'mores. We will write a little bit about them and give them a score from one to six.

Big Mac Big Mac is one of McDonald's signature products and consist of three- part sesame seed bun, two beef patties, a special sauce, salad, freeze dried onions, and topped with pickles. The name of the Big Mac has gone through some changes. Originally it was called the aris- tocrat but that was too hard for customers to pronounce, so they changed it to the blue ribbon burger. That didn't stick either, therefore they changed the named a second time and called it Big Mac. It was created by Jim Delligatti.

The name Big Mac was created by 21 year old Esther Glickstein Rose who was an adver- tisement secretary in Oak Brook, Illinois. The Big Mac debuted in 1967 at Delligati own restaurant in Unitown, Pennsylvania, where it was sold for 45 cents. The Big Mac was a hit and it hit restaurants nationwide in 1968. 45 cents from 1967 is the equivalent of 3.30 dollars today.

The American Big Mac and the Norwegian one have some differences. In America the Big Mac has 540 kcal, 28 g fat, 25 g protein and 2426 mg salt. Comparing it to the Norwegian Big Mac, witch has the same kcal, 26 g fat, 27 g pro- tein and 2200 mg salt, the Norwegian Big Mac is the less unhealthy of the two.

The Big Mac tasted predominately of the special sauce and pickles, there were maybe a hint of the bun and the 100% beef patty. Therefore taking in account the price and the lack of a normal burger taste, we decided to give it 3/6.

Macaroni and cheese Mac and cheese is a typical American dish, but it is originally from England. The dish consist of cooked macaroni pasta and a cheese sauce, most com- monly cheddar.

Pasta and cheese dishes have been recorded since the last 14th century in the Italian cookbook, Liber de Coquina, one of the oldest cookbooks. In 1770 writer Elisabeth Raffald wrote the book The Experience English Housekeeper. Her reci- pe is for a Béchamel sauce with cheddar cheese mixed with macaroni and sprinkled with Par- mesan. The American president Thomas Jefferson tasted macaroni in Paris and in Northern Italy. He wrote detailed notes on the creation process and he crew a sketch of pasta. In 1793 he commissioned American ambassador William Short to Paris. To purchase a pasta making machine. Jefferson disliked the machine and therefor imported both macaroni and Parmesan cheese.

A recipe called "macaroni and cheese" appeared in the 1824 cookbook called The Virginia housewife written by Mary Randolph. The recipe had three ingredients, macaroni, butter and cheese. The cookbook was the most influential cookbook of the 19th century.

With the factory production of the main ingredient made the dish affordable to normal people which made the dish lose its upper class appeal. Mac and cheese is available in boxed and frozen for simple preparation. Bigger brands are Kraft foods and Stouffer's

In the states, July 14th has been made official macaroni and cheese day.

We made Macaroni and cheese. We used British cheddar and Norvegia. Do to the cheddar the cheese sauce was slightly sour. We liked it, it felt like it wasn't a meal (even though Se- bastian ate it for dinner), it could probably have used some meat or some bread. Overall we liked it and it was cheap, aside from the cheddar. We give it a 4/6.

S'mores The s'more is a typical American treat which consist of a warmed marshmallows atop a piece of chocolate making it melt a little, then they are sandwiched in between two graham cracker. It originated from a campfire book from the 1920s where it was called graham cracker sandwich. S'more is a contraction of the phrase some more. The name s'mores was used in a recipe from 1957.

We were lazy and decided to nuke it in the microwave for 10-15s instead of baking it in the oven. You had to eat right after it came out of the nuclear oven unless you wanted hard marshmallows. It was overly sweet and it felt like we just lost 10 year each of our lives, but the first one was good, the slightly soft chocolate mixed with the soft gooey marshmallows and the cracker was good.

We give it a 4/6, it was a little too sweet but it was good.
