Pot up the bulbs in the spring, but no more than three bulbs in a single 10 to 15cm (4 to 6 inch) pot. Space the bulbs evenly over the surface and bury only the bottom half or each bulb in the potting mixture. During the fist four or six weeks do not feed the plants and water sparingly, allowing the top half or the potting mixture to dry out between waterings. When the new roots should be well established, treat the plants in the normal way. Break up overcrowded clumps every two or there years. Sunlight: Full Sun to Partial Shade Soil: Well-drained soil Water: Medium Temperature: 20 to 30 degrees C Fertilizer: Apply any organic fertilizer. Caring for Silver Squill Plant bulbs with their necks above soil level. In growth, water freely and apply a high potash fertilizer every 4 weeks, keep just moist in winter. Watering: During the active growing period water them moderately, allowing the top centimetre (0.4 inch) or so of the potting mixture to dry out before watering again. (2018): Flower morphology and vascular anatomy in some representatives of Urgineoideae (Hyacinthaceae). – Thaiszia – J. Bot. 28 (2): 125-143. – ISSN 1210-0420. Abstract: The flower morphology and vascular anatomy in Bowiea volubilis, Geschollia anomala and Fusifilum physodes have been studied. It was shown that the perigonium and androecium in the studied species are very similar. Each of tepals, and each stamen is supplied by a single vascular bundle. Some significant differences are recognized in the inner structure of the ovary, vertical zonality of septal nectary, as well as gynoecium venation in the studied species. Accordingly to W. Leinfellner concept of the gynoecium vertical zonality, it was established that the gynoecium of B. volubilis consists of hemisynascidiate, hemisymplicate and asymplicate zones, and the gynoecium of G. anomala and F. physodes consists of synascidiate, symplicate, hemisymplicate and asymplicate zones. The septal nectary of all studied species have a nectary cavity and nectary split which opens to the exterior. In the septal nectary we detected three vertical zones: the zone of the distinct nectary at the symplicate zone in F. physodes; the zone of the common nectary at the hemisynascidiate, and hemisymplicate zones in B. volubilis, and at the hemisymplicate zone in G. anomala and F. physodes; the zone of the external nectary (nectary splits) in all studied species at the asymplicate zone in the ovary roof.

Abstract: Geophytes exhibit great diversity in their growth, morphology and developmental biology, and physiological response to environmental factors. Taxonomic studies and classification of geophytes, of either known or newly introduced species, are important. The studies on ornamental geophytes are greatly expanded. Tirunelveli district has a diverse geophytic flora and these resources not fully explored. Hence present study aimed to document the geophytes in the Tirunelveli Corporation area, Tamil Nadu. During the course of the present study, field trips were carried out to identify, document, and characterize the geophytes grown in the study area. Totally 76 species of geophytes were recorded in the study area. The species belonged to 29 families and 58 genera. Totally 44 ornamental geophytes were grown in home gardens of the study area. Geophytes reported with various growth forms. Of the 76 geophytes, 6 climbers, 1 shrub, 4 trees, and the remaining 65 are herbs. Alocasia sanderiana reported as critically endangered species in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. 20 exotic geophytes were recorded in the field study. The present study accounting for the diversity of geophytes in Tirunelveli corporation area and the results may serve to determine conservation strategies for geophytes in the study area.
