World Water Day 2013 Sanitation Campaign in Kerala World Water Day 2013 sanitation campaign in Kerala Sanitation Campaign in Kerala (India) on the eve of World Water Day 2013 was inaugurated by the District Panchayat President of Kollam in the presence of presidents of Block Panchayat presidents, Grama Panchayat Presidents, District Panchayat members , Block Panchayat members, Grama Panchayat members along with NGOs, CBOs, Government Officials, police officials, poets, artists, teachers, community leaders, religious leaders, locals and school children. As part of the event, we had a press meeting held on 18th March for briefing the importance of the events to the Malayalam print and visual media. The media took stock of the situation and reported the events on 19th and 20th March in all leading Malayalam dailies and Television Channels. The Launch meeting comprises Jala Jhadha (water rallies), Toilet queues, Processions along the streets, street play, band-set performance, poem readings on water and sanitation, Pledge on Right to water and sanitation, Public meetings, Handing-over the Citizens’ Charter on sanitation etc. The State level Campaign meeting was held in Kottarakara town of Kollam district in Kerala. Sri. S. Jayamohan of Kollam District panchayat President inaugurated the Sanitation Campaign. Block Panchayat President Mrs. Vinni Lumumba was presided the function. Sri. Jacob Varghese Vadekkedam , the Grama Panchayat president of Kottarakara; Sri. Thankachan Panavelly, the Grama Panchayat president of Vettikavala; Mrs. Lissie Shaji, the Grama Panchayat president of Melila; Mrs. Lethika Salinkumar the Grama Panchayat president of Ummannur and Mrs. Sheebamole of Mylom Grama panchayat president attend the launch meeting and received the Citizen Charter demand on water and sanitation from their respective local Panchayats. Further, the Kollam District Panchayat member Sri. Pathala Raghavan , Block Panchayat members Mrs. Girija Kumari and Sri. Rajimon Varghese, Grama Panchayat members Mrs. Lovely Alexander and Suma Kurian, General Convenor Dr.Roy Kunjappy and the organizing convenors K.O.Rajukutty, Babu Omman, Alexander Jacob, G.Yohannan Kutty, Sajan Koshy and K. Georgekutty spoke the occasion. Cultural event was inaugurated by the noted poet Sri. Aduthal Jayaprakesh and presided by Sri. Neeleswaram Sadasivan. Eight noted Malayalam poets including Abraham Koipally, Mrs.Kanakaletha, G.Vikraman Pillai, Mannadi Chanakyan, G. Sukumara Pillai, Ajayan Kottara were participated in the cultural event on “Kavi-arangu” (reading poems). Sri.G.D. Vijaykumar, the Circle Inspector of Kottarakara led the pledge on Right to water and sanitation. School children from Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Pathanamthitta Districts were participated the pledge ceremony as well as the water rallies and other cultural performance as part of the World Water Day- 2013. Thousands of children from twenty schools in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Pathanamthitta districts were also participated the event on “Keep Your Promises on Sanitation”. Hundreds of people from different walks of life participated the Campaign meeting held on 19th March as part of the week long water and sanitation campaign on the eve of World Water day- 2013. .

The vehicles go only up to Pampa and the temple, which is situated 5 km away from Pampa, can be reached only by trekking.
