Itinerary
Day 1 Ex Adelaide, via Clare to Hawker. Travel Moralana Scenic Drive, then to the old Beltana township. O/N camp
Day 2 To Aroona Dam and on to Marree. Take a flight over Lake Eyre. Up the Birdsville Track to Cooper Creek, then out through the sand dunes of the Strzelecki Desert to Lake Hope (a huge fresh water lake in the Cooper Creek system). O/N camp
Day 3 Back to Birdsville Track. To Mungerannie Pub. Camp on Warburton Creek.
Day 4 To Birdsville. Town attractions. O/N Birdsville Pub
Day 5 Out to ‘Big Red’ in the Simpson Desert. O/N Simpson Desert
Day 6 Visit the Wadi trees (Acacia peuce) north of Birdsville. O/N Camp Haddon Corner
Day 7 On to Innamincka and Burke & Wills locations incl. Dig Tree. O/N Coongie Lakes
Day 8 Coongie Lakes (2 nights spent at this ‘Outback Oasis’)
Day 9 Back to Innamincka, and travel down the Strzelecki Creek. O/N Strzelecki Creek
Day 10 Down Strzelecki Track. Have a warm water ‘spa’ at Montecollina Bore. To Mulligan springs on Lake Callabonna, inspect very unusual mound springs
Day 11 To Arkaroola. Visit features, see Yellow Footed Rock Wallabies. O/N camp Arkaroola
Day 12 Via Umberatana to Mt Serle. Climb Mt serle. O/N camp Mt Serle
Day 13 Via Angepena. Camp near old gold mine
Day 14 To Blinman. Do Blinman mine tour. O/N Warragundi
Day 15 To Wilpena. Flight over Wilpena Pound. To Hawker & Jeff Morgan Gallery (panoramas). To Adelaide via Wilmington and Melrose
In General
This is a smorgasbord of SA outback ‘specials’ led by Rick Moore, an outback history buff and keen botanist. 2012 is an exceptional season, following on good rains in 2010 and 2011. Wild flowers and wildlife in abundance. The two flights, over Lake Eyre and the Flinders Ranges, give that extra perspective. Excellent camp cooking and good South Aus- tralian wines with the evening meals. All accommodation and flights are inclusive of the price.
