DRESS CODE Boys--shirt and tie Girls--dresses Swimmer spotlight: a few questions for Ane Skartvedt In Ane Skartvedt, a junior, a lanedare devil by the age of eight, of her own was jumping in the deep end of the pool with no fear. That’s when her mother decided she should take swim lessons. It was quickly obvious Skartvedt had serious swimming skills. Fortu- nately, she continued to work in the pool and now is a point getter for the girl’s swim team. The Railsplitter sat down with Skartvedt to discuss the cur- rent season. : How’s the swim team season looking? Ane Skartvedt: After the meet on Tuesday, it looks like Qit’s going to be a pretty good year. : What’s your coach and team like? Skartvedt: My team is crazy and fun. They’re always fun Qto be around. My coach can be kind of a pain in the butt sometimes, but he always likes to joke around and make everyone laugh. : What’s your favorite stroke and fastest time? Skartvedt: Freestyle, because it’s the easiest, and my fast- Qest time would be 26.1 in the 50 free. : What’s dry land training like? Skartvedt: It’s my least favorite workout of all, because I Qwake up the next morning so sore. : What’s the weirdest or funniest thing that’s happened to you while swimming? QSkartvedt: When I did the 200 and I lost count in the meet so I just stopped and everyone was yelling at me, which felt really awkward. Ane Skartvedt : Do you look up to anyone and if so who and why? Skartvedt: On the swim team, my best friend Jordan QGreenwood. Even if she’s in pain she’ll still go out and do her best, I kind of get jealous sometimes. : Is there anything about swimming that’s hard to you and why? Skartvedt: All the shoulder problems you get, because right Qnow my rotator cuff is strained so whenever I go in and do my thing it hurts. I just have to keep going through it, but that’s the only hard part. : What do you do to keep yourself motivated? Or does anyone else motivate you and how? QSkartvedt: I keep goals for myself, because I haven’t made it to state yet and I would really like to do that. That’s my goal for this year is to make it to state. : What’s your favorite thing about being on the swim team? Skartvedt: “Having everybody as like a family like were Qall like sisters. I mean we do have bickers like a lot be- cause were with each other 24/7, but it’s really nice to have like a family you know, and always having somebody to cheer you Before the hit the water: Abi Contreras, Valeria San- on.” tiago, Ana Skartvedt, Jordyn Dubois Top row: Nyla Lamp, Allison Kochheiser, Haley Allen : What’s 1-3 things any swimmer should know? , Jessica Warrell, Alexis Trucano Skartvedt: Hold your streamlines, don’t breathe in and Qout of the wall, and don’t jerk on the block because you will get disqualified.
