Williams Library, The University of Mississippi Return to Table of Contents » BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE John Grisham was born on 8 February 1955 in Jonesboro, Ark., to a construction worker and a homemaker. Grisham majored in accounting at Mississippi State University, then graduated from law school at the University of Mississippi in 1981. He went on to practice law for nearly a decade in Southaven, Miss., specializing in criminal defense and personal injury litigation. In 1983, he was elected to the state House of Representatives and served until 1990.
