  • The Life & Rhymes of Jay-Z, an Historical Biography
ABSTRACT Title of Dissertation: THE LIFE & RHYMES OF JAY-Z, AN HISTORICAL BIOGRAPHY: 1969-2004 Omékongo Dibinga, Doctor of Philosophy, 2015 Dissertation directed by: Dr. Barbara Finkelstein, Professor Emerita, University of Maryland College of Education. Department of Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership. The purpose of this dissertation is to explore the life and ideas of Jay-Z. It is an effort to illuminate the ways in which he managed the vicissitudes of life as they were inscribed in the political, economic cultural, social contexts and message systems of the worlds which he inhabited: the social ideas of class struggle, the fact of black youth disempowerment, educational disenfranchisement, entrepreneurial possibility, and the struggle of families to buffer their children from the horrors of life on the streets. Jay-Z was born into a society in flux in 1969. By the time Jay-Z reached his 20s, he saw the art form he came to love at the age of 9—hip hop— become a vehicle for upward mobility and the acquisition of great wealth through the sale of multiplatinum albums, massive record deal signings, and the omnipresence of hip-hop culture on radio and television. In short, Jay-Z lived at a time where, if he could survive his turbulent environment, he could take advantage of new terrains of possibility. This dissertation seeks to shed light on the life and development of Jay-Z during a time of great challenge and change in America and beyond. THE LIFE & RHYMES OF JAY-Z, AN HISTORICAL BIOGRAPHY: 1969-2004 An historical biography: 1969-2004 by Omékongo Dibinga Dissertation submitted to the Faculty of the Graduate School of the University of Maryland, College Park, in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy 2015 Advisory Committee: Professor Barbara Finkelstein, Chair Professor Steve Klees Professor Robert Croninger Professor Derrick Alridge Professor Hoda Mahmoudi © Copyright by Omékongo Dibinga 2015 Acknowledgments I would first like to thank God for making life possible and bringing me to this point in my life.

  • TREE of CLUES: a Packet for Popheads
TREE OF CLUES: a packet for popheads Written by Kevin Kodama 1. In one song by this artist, a background clicking noise slows down as she sings “I found another way / To caress my day”. One of this artist’s videos is a single shot of her as both a giant goddess and tiny dancers that slowly zooms out. A track by this artist that she described as “a medieval march through the destruction of a relationship” laments “I never thought that you would be the one to tie me down”. This artist asks “Why don’t I do it for you” in a video that showcases her pole-dancing skills, and she explained a part of her name as “a selection of letters that sounded... masculine and strong”. For ten points, name this artist who released “Cellophane” for her 2019 album MAGDALENE. ANSWER: FKA twigs (accept Taliah Debrett Barnett) 2. This song’s heavily ad-libbed bridge includes the James Brown-inspired lyric “Good God! I can’t help it!”. In the music video for this song, the artist crawls on the ground sporting white polka dotted lipstick. This song begins with a series of tongue clicking and a breathy “yeah” along with some funky guitars. The video for this song uses pink, purple, and blue lighting in a scene where the artist runs between a male flirt and Tessa Thompson. This song’s artist describes herself as “an emotional sexual bender”, which is a nod to her pansexuality. For ten points, name this top r/popheads track of 2018, a Janelle Monae song that was the lead single for the album Dirty Computer.

  • Building Your Chronological Resume
BUILDING YOUR CHRONOLOGICAL RESUME [email protected] 985-876-5861, Option 2 Chronological resumes order information in descending chronological order (most recent to least recent). I suggest making two resumes: a master resume and the resume you will turn into potential employers. Start with your master resume, which lists everything that you’ve done and skills that you have regardless of whether or not it pertains to any specific career or job. Then, make a copy of your master resume and weed out the irrelevant information for the position you want to apply for. (If you decide to make a master resume, make it a chronological resume instead of a skills-based resume as it does not focus on any specific skillset.) Having a master resume helps you to remember what education, experience, training, certifications, etc. you have. That way, when you apply for something new, you won’t have to wrack your brain for anything relevant you can put on it. It’s all right in front of you! MAIN COMPONENTS OF A CHRONOLOGICAL RESUME Name and Contact Information Put your full name in a clear font where it is easy to see. Don’t use a nickname. Most resumes have the individual’s name at the very top of the page in a larger font than any other information. o If you have a common name or know of others with the same name as you, putting a middle name or middle initial can minimize confusion. Put at least two reliable and up-to-date means of contact potential employers can reach you at.

Yeah, I'll hit you up at the after party. Okay, man. Yeah, I'll see you there. Hey, this is Griffin McElroy. Rachel: And this is Wonderful! Griffin: Sorry, it‘s just… [sighs] I know we gotta focus on the show. I know it‘s our big day, but… we‘re on the red carpet, and like… Rachel: Yeah. Griffin: It‘s hard—if Mario Lopez comes up and wants to hang out at the after party, babe, it‘s like, I‘ve made it! Rachel: I know, but let‘s not celebrate our hundredth episode before we‘ve actually recorded it. Griffin: Right, this is the red carpet before the event. We‘re about to go to the first screening of our hundredth episode. For all I know, it could be a disaster. Mario may not want to talk to me after the party, so I need to check that—cash that check. Shit, if this is the energy I bring to ep one hundred, Mario‘s definitely not gonna wanna talk to me. Rachel: [laughs] Griffin: I just wanna tell him what a good job he did playing Greg Louganis in that one Lifetime movie. Rachel: Aw, jeez. Griffin: In that one commercial I saw for it where he asked if there was a blood nipple. Rachel: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Griffin: You love that anecdote. Rachel: Yeah. Griffin: Who are you looking forward to seeing today on the big red way? Rachel: Well, Wallace Shawn.
