At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.

Every year the nation unites to make sure that no-one is for- gotten and to remember and honour those who have sacri- ficed themselves to secure and protect our freedom. Remembrance 2020 The annual remembrance of all those who suffered during the two world wars, and conflicts since, will be taking place in the area, but in a very low-key way because of the Covid 19 Pandemic. Some local churches will be marking Remembrance Sunday at 11am on 8th November, please see our events columns on pages 4 and 5 or the relevant church websites. With Covid-19 the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal has had to change. With most of the staff hav- ing been furloughed or in isolation the normal supply of poppy merchandise is not available and to maintain hygiene rules the Legion will be unable to put out trays. Collecting pots are available if you have space to display one safely. Donations may be made online at www.britishlegion.org.uk/get- involved/ways-to-give/donate where you can download a poppy to colour in as well. For further infor- mation or help please call 01769 574522 or email [email protected]. I do have a limited supply of wreathes available for a suggested donation of £20, but please ring to order as stocks are re- stricted. Even the Remembrance Parade in South Molton will be limited to 6 people at the War Memori- al and no church service at all in South Molton. Our ability to help so many ex-service personnel and their families depends on the Poppy Appeal and this year we need your support even more. The national Festival of Remembrance will go ahead as a pre-recorded programme will be broadcast on BBC One on Saturday 7th November. The main commemoration at the Cenotaph in London on Sunday 8th will be on TV as usual. It is 100 years since the Cenotaph was built as a permanent reminder of the sacrifices made in war.
