FordClubs 30 JAHRE FORD GRANADA UND FORD CONSUL Im Mai 1971 entdeckte ein emsiger Reporter der autozeitung die ersten Ford Consul/Granada- Erlkönige auf der Autobahn Köln-Düsseldorf. Vage Einzelheiten drangen somit an die Öffentlichkeit, untermalt von Skizzen eines bullig wirkenden Autos, die dem späteren Original schon nahe kamen. Der Name „Consul“ geisterte durch die Medien, der aber schon bald darauf mit einem neuen Vorschlag von der Zeitschrift mot verdrängt wurde: „Granada soll er heißen“. Die Skizzen und Zeichnungen zur Erlkönig-Kurzstory in der mot waren noch präziser und entsprachen - bis auf die Doppelscheinwerfer - dem Original. Die ersten Fotos der 17m- und 20m-Nachfolgemodelle, die „jetzt als Prototypen immer öfter über die deutschen Autobahnen huschen“ (autozeitung August 1971), wurden geschossen. Auf diese Weise gelang Anfang Januar 1972 der Schnappschuss eines Fastback-Coupés, das einen breiten seitlichen Hüftschwung zeigte und somit das amerikanische Hop-Bop- (oder Coke-Bottle-) Design eines 67er Buick Wildcat- oder Chevrolet lmpala-Coupés imitierte. Seite 1 von 7 FordClubs Da die Ford-Werke ihren jüngsten Spross vor der neugierigen Pressemeute kaum noch verbergen konnten, gingen die Kölner am 4. Februar 1972 zur Offensive über: Ein 500 Meter langer „Ford- Spanien-Express“, beladen mit 72 Ford Consul-Granada, begann seine 2.500 Kilometer lange Reise nach Marbella in Spanien zur Pressevorstellung. Vorher bekamen jedoch die von Ford herbeizitierten Fotografen und Reporter noch einmal Gelegenheit, die Neufahrzeuge im Bild festzuhalten. Nach nur vierjähriger deutsch-britischer Entwicklungszeit war - bis auf die Motoren - eine völlige Neu- konstruktion unter dem Code MH (Medium-Hummer, Nachfolge Zephyr/Zodiac Mark IV bzw. 17m/20m/26m) entstanden, die insgesamt eine halbe Milliarde Mark verschlungen hatte. -
