BEAQ 2014 Conference Program Page 2 Register now at www.beaq.org.au/2014-conference Welcome from the BEAQ President

It is my pleasure to welcome you to BEAQ’s annual Conference at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre. The world of education is ever-changing, so how do we keep pace? This year’s theme, Change. Create. Innovate! encourages us to reflect on what we do well and to find creative and new ways for tomorrow. Innovation in education and teaching is necessary to respond to the ever changing world we live in and our students’ needs, helping to open their minds and build their self confidence. The learning environments we provide for our students can help make learning more exciting, challenging and rewarding. Reflecting the Conference theme, rooms will be presented in a variety of set ups; there is even a bean bag room! This year’s Friday program focuses exclusively on industry visits including new organisations: ABC Studios, Australia Zoo, Eastern Food Alliance, O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat, Publicis Mojo (advertising agency) and the Woodford Folk Festival. We are pleased to welcome coffee entrepreneur Phillip Di Bella on Saturday as our keynote speaker who has successfully grown his small coffee-roasting operation in the suburbs of Brisbane, to an internationally recognised coffee brand. Our Saturday program will be further enhanced by our Plenary speaker, Bill Hauritz, Director of the Woodford Folk Festival. Bill will speak on The Anatomy of Festivals. Special guest speaker Mick Gooda, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner, Australian Human Rights Commission, will join a wide range of breakout sessions across seven different curriculum streams. Delegates will have time to network with colleagues and visit the trade exhibitions for the latest resources. Join us for this outstanding event. Registration costs have been kept to a minimum so as many people as possible can attend. We are grateful to our sponsors: Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia, Teacher’s Union Health, QUT Business School and Faculty of Law and the University of Southern .
