STATE ( GOVT OF NCT ) & WITH CRL.L.P. 273/2017 ORS NOTICE 'Pro Bono Legal Services'Initiative Department of Justice, Ministry of Law & Justice 8 May 2017 The Department of Justice has launched a web based platform for 'Pro Bono Legal Services', available at its website http://doj.gov.in/ This initiative, launched on 20 April 2017, by the Hon'ble Minister for Law & Justice, Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad, is aimed at institutionalizing pro bono legal services in India. Through this online portal, practicing advocates can volunteer themselves for pro bono legal services for the underprivileged litigants who are unable to afford it(as defined under Section 12 of the Legal Services Act, 1987). Registrations can be done at http://doj.gov.in/ The database of registered lawyers will be utilized by the Department of Justice to create a liaison between those entitled to legal services under The Legal Services Authority Act, 1987 and a qualified lawyer providing pro bono services having expertise or interest in the related matter. The government has also proposed to include and recognize pro bono legal assistance provided by lawyers as a yardstick to be considered for appointment to appropriate positions. Please note, Pro bono services are by definition voluntary and no honorarium or financial assistance shall be provided to the lawyers. As approved by Hon'ble Mr. Justice S.Ravindra Bhat,Judge High Court of Delhi and Chairman, DHCLSC, National Lok Adalat is to be held on 08.07.2017(Second Saturday) at High Court of Delhi for the pending cases under following category:- 1. Criminal Compoundable Offence 2. NI Act cases under Section 138; 3. Bank Recovery cases; 4. MACT cases; 5. Matrimonial disputes; 6. Labour disputes cases; 7. Land Acquisition cases; 8. TEMPLES PARASNATH HILLS FACE THREAT DUE TO MINING Giridih, Mining, legal or otherwise, is no longer just a geological problem at the Parasnath hills. Frequent tree-felling and soil erosion have given the issue a religious angle. Geologists and environmentalists warn that if no concrete steps are taken to stop misuse of the mountain within 50 years, there would be a significant threat to the 4,431 ft Parasnath hill. Parasnath hills hold special significance for Jains as most of the Jain Tirthankars including Parsva or Parsvanath, attained nirvana on the hill. Environmentalist U.C. Mehta said the life of the mountain is decreasing fast thanks to the way trees are being cut down frequently. One of the problems is the construction of the Grand Trunk Road, which passes beside the hill. The road has been under construction for four years, and stones and soil from the hill are being used for the construction. President of Jain Swetamber Society, Kamal Singh Rampuria says he will ask the government for a survey to get exact data of the hill’s height and also to take necessary steps to maintain the condition of the hill.

It marks the anniversary of Nirvana of Mahavira's soul, the twenty fourth Jain Tirthankara of present cosmic age. It is celebrated at the same time as the Hindu festival of Diwali. Diwali marks the New Year for the Jain group and it likewise remembers the passing commemoration of their 24th Tirthankara Mahavira and his achievement of moksha. Mahavira attained Moksha on this day at Pavapuri on Oct. 15, 527 BCE, on Chaturdashi of Kartika, as confirmed by Tilyapannatti of Yativrashaba. Mahavira, the 24th Tirthankara of this era, revitalised Jain dharma. According to tradition, the chief disciple of Mahavira, Ganadhara Gautam Swami also attained complete knowledge (Kevala Jnana) on this day, thus making Diwali one of the most important Jain festivals. Mahavira attained his nirvana at the dawn of the amavasya (new moon). According to the Swetamber text Kalpasutra, many gods were present there, illuminating the darkness. The following night was pitch black without the light of the gods or the moon. To symbolically keep the light of their master's knowledge alive, 16 Gana-kings, 9 Malla and 9 Lichchhavi, of Kasi and Kosal, illuminated their doors. They said: "Since the light of knowledge is gone, we will make light of ordinary matter" (" Rc aW c, [ W cè Pःb ". Dipavali was mentioned in Jain books as the date of the nirvana of Mahavira.
