A Thousand Horses to Headline 2nd Annual BBQ Cook-Off June 2 & 3

FORNEY, TX – The City of Forney is excited to announce that ‘A Thousand Horses’ will be headlining the 2017 BBQ Cook-Off at Community Park, 241 S. FM 548, presented by Brooklyn Village and the City of Forney on June 2 and 3. A fresh fusion of classic sounds – a hybrid of , the Allman Brothers, Black Crowes and Exile on Main Street, ‘A Thousand Horses’ has a distinct sound of low-country with old school soul, that many residents will love. Their working-man’s anthem “Preachin to the Choir” is currently on country radio and follows their successful debut “Smoke”. The chart-topping track made Country Aircheck history as the highest debut for a new artist and solidified then band as the first this decade to score a No. 1 with their first single on the Billboard Chart.

“We couldn’t be more excited to have a band of this caliber come to play at the Spellman Amphitheater in Forney.” said Special Events Coordinator Alexa Beasley. “Being able to attract a nationally known artist was a goal this year, as we continue to look for ways to expand this unique event every year by offering more activities and music to residents.”

The weekend full of activities will commence on Friday with an all-ages steak cook-off, Texas Cornhole League Tournament, and a “Movies in the Park” showing of “Moana”. Saturday will be full of live music, featuring a number of artists including Bubba Westly, Chris Colston, Todd Barrow, Matt Bradshaw, Scott Whitaker and Clay Thrash.

Registration is still open for anyone interested in competing in the cook-off. The entry fee is $150 for one or all meats, there is also a $10 entrance fee for jackpot beans and cobbler. The cook-off will be sanctioned by the Lone Star Barbecue Society (LSBS), LSBS rules and regulations can be found on the City’s website.
