Capitol Insurrection At Center Of Conservative Movement: At Least 43 Governors, Senators And Members Of Congress Have Ties To Groups That Planned January 6th Rally And Riots. SUMMARY: On January 6, 2021, a rally in support of overturning the results of the 2020 presidential election “turned deadly” when thousands of people stormed the U.S. Capitol at Donald Trump’s urging. Even Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell, who rarely broke with Trump, has explicitly said, “the mob was fed lies. They were provoked by the President and other powerful people.” These “other powerful people” include a vast array of conservative officials and Trump allies who perpetuated false claims of fraud in the 2020 election after enjoying critical support from the groups that fueled the Capitol riot. In fact, at least 43 current Governors or elected federal office holders have direct ties to the groups that helped plan the January 6th rally, along with at least 15 members of Donald Trump’s former administration. The links that these Trump-allied officials have to these groups are: Turning Point Action, an arm of right-wing Turning Point USA, claimed to send “80+ buses full of patriots” to the rally that led to the Capitol riot, claiming the event would be one of the most “consequential” in U.S. history. • The group spent over $1.5 million supporting Trump and his Georgia senate allies who claimed the election was fraudulent and supported efforts to overturn it. • The organization hosted Trump at an event where he claimed Democrats were trying to “rig the election,” which he said would be “the most corrupt election in the history of our country.” • At a Turning Point USA event, Rep.

Were the Eagle and the Phoenix Birds of a Feather? The United States and the Greek Coup of 1967 by Louis Klarevas Assistant Professor of Political Science City University of New York—College of Staten Island & Associate Fellow Hellenic Observatory—London School of Economics Discussion Paper No. 15 Hellenic Observatory-European Institute London School of Economics Houghton Street London WC2A 2AE http://www.lse.ac.uk/collections/hellenicObservatory February 2004 Author’s Note: The author wishes to thank the Hellenic Observatory of the London School of Economics for its generous support in the undertaking of this project. The author also wishes to thank Kevin Featherstone, Spyros Economides, and Dimitrios Triantaphyllou for comments on a previous draft. In the summer of 2004, Greece will host the Olympic Games. Americans attending the games and visiting traditional tourist stops in Athens are sure to be greeted with open arms. But for those who delve a bit further into the country-side seeking a taste of average Greek life, some are sure to hear some fascinating tales flavored with a strong hint of anti-Americanism. To many foreigners that visit Greece these days, it might seem like the cradle of democracy is also the cradle of conspiracy. Take these schemes, for example: (1) Orthodox Serbs, not Muslims, were the true victims of the slaughters in the Balkans during the 1990s—and the primary reason that NATO intervened was so that the United States could establish a military foothold there;1 (2) the U.S. Ambassador played a tacit role in the removal of the Secretary- General of Greece’s ruling political party;2 and (3) the attack on the World Trade Center was a joint Jewish-American conspiracy to justify a Western war against Muslims—with reports that no Jews died in the September 11 attacks.3 All of these perspectives have numerous subscribers in Greece.

Case 1:17-cr-00182-RDM Document 59 Filed 11/21/18 Page 1 of 6 IN THE UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT FOR THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA UNITED STATES OF AMERICA v. Criminal No. 17-cr-182-RDM GEORGE PAPADOPOULOS, Defendant. GOVERNMENT’S RESPONSE TO DEFENDANT’S MOTION TO CONTINUE BAIL Defendant George Papadopoulos has moved to continue his bail pending the decision of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit in In Re: Grand Jury Investigation, No. 18-3052. The motion should be denied. The defendant has no pending appeal, his motion is made for purposes of delay, and he has not presented a substantial legal question that is likely to result in reversal. BACKGROUND 1. On October 5, 2017, defendant Papadopoulos pleaded guilty before this Court to making false statements to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 1001. As detailed in the Statement of the Offense, the defendant lied to the FBI regarding his interactions with a foreign professor whom he understood to have significant ties to the Russian government, as well as a female Russian national. The defendant claimed his interactions with these individuals were inconsequential and predated his time on the Trump Campaign. In truth and fact, the defendant knew that the professor took an interest in him only after the professor learned the defendant was affiliated with the Trump Campaign, and in late April 2016 after returning from a trip to Moscow, the professor told the defendant that Russia possessed “dirt” on Clinton in the form of “thousands of emails” while the defendant was affiliated with the Campaign.

First, on the same day Movants filed their motion, Republican Senators Chuck Grassley and Lindsey Graham, with the approval of the FBI, made public a less-redacted version of a criminal referral (''the Grassley-Graham Memo") related to the Page wiretapping applications. It contains additional facts about the applications that the executive branch has chosen to declassify. The Grassley-Graham Memo also contains certain characterizations about the Page application materials that are disputed by other members of Congress who have access to the applications. 1 The pending motion seeks all orders relating to surveillance of Carter Page together with the application materials and renewal application materials, with only such limited redactions as may be essential to preserve information that remains properly classified.

  • April 21, 1967 Shock Opportunism and the Greek Junta
Yannick Verberckmoes 00903164 Master Program in American Studies Academic year: 2013-2014 April 21, 1967 Shock Opportunism and the Greek Junta Supervisor: Prof. Dr. J. Ken Kennard In this thesis we will investigate the concept of shock opportunism relating to the Greek colonels’ regime, that governed Greece from 1967 to 1974. Shock opportunism is defined as the use of a possibly premeditated collective shock, e.g. a natural disaster, war or coup d’état, as an opportunity to radically implement neoliberal economic reforms. On the one hand we will look at why and how this was done and on the other, we will link the case of Greece to similar examples of authoritarian regimes during the Cold War to come to a better analysis of this dark period in Greek history. Although writing a thesis is a very solitary endeavor, its merits can never be accredited to just one person. I would therefore like to express my gratitude to the following people: Prof. Dr. J. Ken Kennard: for yelling at me for about thirty minutes one week after the Easter break and explaining to me in quite straightforward English that my first draft still needed a lot of work, as this was a testimony to the great care and effort he displayed in helping me throughout the research and writing process. Prof. Dr. Victor Gavin: for his useful advice. Gizem Özbeko ğlu: for her undying support and access to the library of Boğaziçi University (Istanbul). Both of which were absolutely essential to the completion of this dissertation. Jannik Held: for introducing me to Naomi Klein’s book The Shock Doctrine over a couple of beers.

  • Will the Mueller Probe End in a Constitutional Crisis
WILL THE MUELLER PROBE END WITH A CONSTITUTIONAL CRISIS? In May 2017, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein appointed for- mer FBI Director Robert Mueller as special counsel to investigate Russian interference in the presidential election of 2016. Specifically, Mueller’s task was to look into interference to benefit then-candidate Donald Trump. Many elected officials, news analysts, and scholars wonder if the special counsel’s investigation (aka the Mueller probe) could lead to a constitutional crisis. The term constitutional crisis is complex. Generally, a con- stitutional crisis is a conflict in the function of government that the U.S. Constitution cannot resolve. Either the Constitution does not say what to do about the conflict, is too vague to resolve the conflict, or presents options to resolve the conflict that lead to other serious political dilemmas. Any constitutional crisis threat- ens the proper functioning of the government. In the case of the Mueller probe, some political observers worry that President Trump might interfere with Mueller’s investigation, (Wikimedia Manafort Vandon), (Michael Trump - 2.0 SA By (IowaPolitics.com). CC Cohen under licensed Skidmore), images (Gage with Flynn Costly Commons), Andrew By (Wikimedia Papadopoulos Commons), especially if the president believes it will lead to charges against him personally. President Trump has repeatedly called the investi- gation a “witch hunt” and accused Mueller and members of his in- vestigative team of unfair bias. The press has reported that Trump twice told aides that he wanted the Mueller probe to end. The administration has also repeatedly stated that Mueller ought to complete his investigation.

  • While Democrats Work for the People, Republicans Have Failed the American People
While Democrats Work For The People, Republicans Have Failed the American People Throughout the 116th Congress, House Democrats have worked to deliver results for the American people, passing legislation to address each pillar of the “For The People” agenda: lower health care costs, higher wages by rebuilding America, and cleaning up corruption and strengthening our Democracy. Over the past two years, the Democratic-led House has passed nearly 600 bills, including legislation to lower health care and prescription drug prices, raise wages, advance economic and retirement security, end gun violence, act on the climate crisis, protect Dreamers, and strengthen voting rights. While Democrats have worked for the people, Republicans have failed the people. From the facts of the past few years – deaths from COVID-19, the state of the economy, the increase in the deficit, and the number of uninsured Americans – to major legislation blocked by Senate Republicans, to Republicans working against the American people’s priorities, to rampant corruption in the Trump Administration, Republicans have shown that they are not working for the people. REPUBLICANS HAVE FAILED THE PEOPLE: JUST THE FACTS The facts are clear: Republicans have failed the American people. From COVID cases and deaths, to the number of unemployed and uninsured Americans, the numbers are grim. And instead of taking meaningful action to stop this pandemic and limit the economic impacts, Republicans have done nothing. • COVID deaths in the U.S., as of 9/20/20: 199,517 • COVID cases in the U.S., as of 9/20/20: 6,812,470 • Unemployment: o When President Trump took office in January 2017, unemployment was at 4.7 percent.
