English, M.S. Marquette University, 2012 An increasing number of empirical studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of cognitive training (CT) with healthy, cognitively intact older adults. Less is known regarding the effectiveness of commercially available “brain training” programs. The current study investigated the impact of daily CT presented via the Brain Age® software for Nintendo DS on neurocognitive abilities in a sample of healthy, community-dwelling older adults. Over the six-week study, participants in the CT group completed training activities and were compared to an active control group who played card games on the Nintendo DS. At pre-test and post-test, a wide range of empirically validated neuropsychological outcome measures was administered to examine the proximal and distal transfer effects of training.

  • BLACKJACK It’S Easy to Ace the Game of Blackjack, One of the Most Popular Table Games at Hollywood Casino and Around the World
BLACKJACK It’s easy to ace the game of Blackjack, one of the most popular table games at Hollywood Casino and around the world. Object of the Game Your goal is to draw cards that total 21, or come closer to 21 than the dealer without going over. How To Play • The dealer and each player start with two cards. The dealer’s first card faces up, the second faces down. Face cards each count as 10, Aces count as 1 or 11, all others count at face value. An Ace with any 10, Jack, Queen, or King is a “Blackjack.” • If you have a Blackjack, the dealer pays you one-and-a-half times your bet — unless the dealer also has a Blackjack, in which case it’s a “push” and neither wins. • If you don’t have Blackjack, you can ask the dealer to “hit” you by using a scratching motion with your fingers on the table. • You may draw as many cards as you like (one at a time), but if you go over 21, you “bust” and lose. If you do not want to “hit,” you may “stand” by making a side-to-side waving motion with you hand. • After all players are satisfied with their hands the dealer will turn his or her down card face up and stand or draw as necessary. The dealer stands on 17 or higher. BLACKJACK Payoff Schedule All winning bets are paid even money (1 to 1), except for Blackjack, which pays you one-and-a-half times your bet or 3 to 2.

  • How Poor Are Blackjack Players
gaming operations table games PLAYER ERROR FACTORS IN BLACKJACK: HOW POOR ARE POOR PLAYERS? By Bill Zender Determining the house’s mathematical edge in a game like roulette is quite easy. First, you determine the amount paid to the customer for every positive player outcome and the amount taken by the house for every casino positive outcome. Next, you take the difference between the two and divide it by the total number of possible outcomes. This gives you the house edge, also known as the “house advantage” in percentages (35-37 = -2/38 = -0.0526 = -5.26 percent). The 5.26 percent house advantage means that the casino expects to win, in theory, $5.26 for every $100 wagered on the roulette wheel. Knowing a game’s house advantage establishes a basis for why a table game wins money, which is how the casino generates revenue. All casino games have a mathematical edge that can be calculated using the same principles we used to determine the house advantage in roulette. That is, every game except one: blackjack. The popularity of blackjack makes it the queen of the casino. Blackjack tables in Nevada make up roughly 65 percent of all live casino table games. Blackjack produced more than $1.3 billion during the 2007–2008 fiscal period ending June 30 (State of Nevada). However, the mathematicians have a problem capturing the exact edge the casinos enjoy with this card game. Blackjack has a number of variables that alter the game’s house advantage. First, there are the numbers of decks used to deal the game.

  • Bahama Bonus Blackjack Is a Standard Deck of Playing Cards Is Used, but with All the 10S and the Jokers Removed
GAME RULES BAHAMA BONUS In Bahama Bonus Blackjack is a standard deck of playing cards is used, but with all the 10s and the Jokers removed. Bahama Bonus Blackjack is derived from the game of Blackjack. The object of the game is to get a hand closer to 21 than the dealer, without exceeding 21. To begin, the dealer deals two cards to each player. The dealer’s first card faces up, the second card faces down. All face cards (King, Queen or Jack) count as 10 each; all other cards count at face value except the Ace, which counts as 1 or 11 as the player decides. An Ace with any Jack, Queen or King on the first two initial cards is a Blackjack. The dealer pays 1½ times your bet for a Blackjack. In Bahama Bonus Blackjack, a Blackjack always wins regardless of the dealer’s hand. If the player does not have a Blackjack, they can stand, hit, double down, or split the cards (create two hands) according to rules posted at the table. The player may draw as many cards as they like, but if they go over 21 they bust and lose. A player’s hand of 21 always wins (except for a Dealer Blackjack). After all players have acted on their hand, the dealer turns their down card face up and stands or draws as necessary. The dealer must hit a soft 17 or less. A soft 17 is any combination containing an Ace that equals 17; this hand is hit because it cannot bust.
