The current study investigated the impact of daily CT presented via the Brain Age® software for Nintendo DS on neurocognitive abilities in a sample of healthy, community-dwelling older adults. Over the six-week study, participants in the CT group completed training activities and were compared to an active control group who played card games on the Nintendo DS. At pre-test and post-test, a wide range of empirically validated neuropsychological outcome measures was administered to examine the proximal and distal transfer effects of training.

Definitions The following words and terms, when used in the Rules of the Game of Double Attack Blackjack, shall have the following meanings unless the context clearly indicates otherwise: Blackjack - shall mean an ace and any card having a point value of 10 dealt as the initial two cards to a player or a dealer, except that this shall not include an ace and a 10 point value card dealt to a player who has split pairs. First, you determine the amount paid to the customer for every positive player outcome and the amount taken by the house for every casino positive outcome. Next, you take the difference between the two and divide it by the total number of possible outcomes. This gives you the house edge, also known as the “house advantage” in percentages (35-37 = -2/38 = -0.0526 = -5.26 percent). The 5.26 percent house advantage means that the casino expects to win, in theory, $5.26 for every $100 wagered on the roulette wheel. Knowing a game’s house advantage establishes a basis for why a table game wins money, which is how the casino generates revenue. All casino games have a mathematical edge that can be calculated using the same principles we used to determine the house advantage in roulette. That is, every game except one: blackjack. The popularity of blackjack makes it the queen of the casino. Blackjack tables in Nevada make up roughly 65 percent of all live casino table games. Blackjack produced more than $1.3 billion during the 2007–2008 fiscal period ending June 30 (State of Nevada). However, the mathematicians have a problem capturing the exact edge the casinos enjoy with this card game. Blackjack has a number of variables that alter the game’s house advantage. An Ace will have a value of 11 unless that would give a player or the dealer a score in excess of 21; in which case, it has a value of 1. The dealer starts the game. Every player gets 2 cards, face up. The dealer gets 2 cards, with a Hole Card (1 card face down). Only after all players’ hands are played does the dealer disclose the Hole Card and play the dealer’s hand. Once you have your 2 cards in front of you, you can choose to Stand (draw no more cards), or take a Hit (draw one or more cards) until you reach 21 or come as close as possible. However, if you go over 21, you Break (automatically lose). A winning hand pays even money. Now the dealer turns over the Hole Card and acts on the hand according to the rules of the game. The dealer must draw to soft 17’s and stand on hard 17’s and all 18’s. At the end of the game, if your count is the same as the dealer’s, it is a Standoff (nobody wins).
