  • Social Housing Construction Projects Status Report Q3 2019
Social Housing Construction Projects Status Report Q3 2019 December 2019 Rebuilding Ireland - Action Plan for Housing and Homelessness Quarter 3 of 2019: Social Housing Construction Status Report Rebuilding Ireland: Social Housing Targets Under Rebuilding Ireland, the Government has committed more than €6 billion to support the accelerated delivery of over 138,000 additional social housing homes to be delivered by end 2021. This will include 83,760 HAP homes, 3,800 RAS homes and over 50,000 new homes, broken down as follows: Build: 33,617; Acquisition: 6,830; Leasing: 10,036. It should be noted that, in the context of the review of Rebuilding Ireland and the refocussing of the social housing delivery programme to direct build, the number of newly constructed and built homes to be delivered by 2021 has increased significantly with overall delivery increasing from 47,000 new homes to over 50,000. This has also resulted in the rebalancing of delivery under the construction programme from 26,000 to 33,617 with acquisition targets moving from 11,000 to 6,830. It is positive to see in the latest Construction Status Report that 6,499 social homes are currently onsite. The delivery of these homes along with the additional 8,050 homes in the pipeline will substantially aid the continued reduction in the number of households on social housing waiting lists. These numbers continue to decline with a 5% reduction of households on the waiting lists between 2018 and 2019 and a 25% reduction since 2016. This progress has been possible due to the strong delivery under Rebuilding Ireland with 90,011 households supported up to end of Q3 2019 since Rebuilding Ireland in 2016.

  • Tallaght to Templeogue Cycle Track Scheme
Dublin Cycling Campaign PO Box 10295, Dublin 3 [email protected] www.dublincycling.ie A member of Cyclist.ie – A member of The Senior Executive Officer, Roads and Water Services, South Dublin County Council, County Hall, Town Centre, Dublin 24. 7th February 2014 Submission from the Dublin Cycling Campaign on the proposed Tallaght to Templeogue Cycle Track Scheme General Dublin Cycling Campaign (DCC) welcomes this overall scheme, which provides for a significant improvement in the provision for cyclists and pedestrians and also provides for improved design at some bus stops. We also welcome that the design is in general line with the recent Design Manual for Urban Roads and Streets (DMURS) and that it liberally uses the recommendations of the National Cycle Manual (NCM). We commend South Dublin CC on the general quality of the Part 8 consultation drawings, which greatly assist in assessing the proposed scheme. We welcome the proposed 30 kph speed limit in Tallaght Village but recommend that it should be extended as far as the Greenhills Road junction and that the section of the Old Bawn Road from Main Street to the N81 junction should be included in the 30 kph zone. We recommend that the design is complemented by the installation of directional signage to encourage the use of the cycle paths as many cyclists and potential cyclists are unaware of cycle routes in their area. The many roundabouts in the area are challenging and dangerous for cyclists. Special attention needs to be given to these to ensure that cyclists can safely use them or alternative junction designs need to be put in place.

  • GOC Irish Air Corps
The Military History Society of Ireland. by kind permission of the GOC Irish Air Corps will host a seminar: Military Aviation in Ireland: The Formative Years 1912 – 1922 on Saturday, 15 September 2018 in Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnel, County Dublin. In September 1912, No 2 squadron of the Royal Flying Corps took part in the manoeuvres of Irish Command. Based at Rathbane in Limerick the aircraft flew numerous sorties to the astonishment and applause of the large crowds that gathered to watch them. This was the beginning of military aviation in Ireland. The outbreak of war two years later led to massive developments in aircraft, their roles and numbers. In 1914, the Royal Flying Corps had less than 200 aircraft; four years later, at the Armistice, the newly formed Royal Air Force had over 27,000 aircraft. Aircraft were deployed in fighter, bomber, army co-operation and coastal patrol units, all supported by training units. Many Irishmen served with the RFC and RAF with distinction. This expansion had an impact in Ireland with the building of aerodromes at many sites including Baldonnel and Collinstown. The end of World War I brought new challenges to the RAF in Ireland and squadrons were deployed to assist the British Army in the War of Independence. The Anglo-Irish Treaty did not bring peace. As the civil war erupted, the new Free State had the challenge of establishing an air force amid the chaos and turmoil of that conflict. These are the subjects that will be explored in this seminar. Programme. Time Speaker Presentation 10:00am Mr Lar Joye.
