LETTER FROM THE CHAIRMAN Welcome to the SWG May Newsletter. The arrival of May is usually marked with celebration, as winter is now behind us, and there is plenty to rejoice about in the Lancashire countryside. Spring also offers budding bird spotters an opportunity to see Cuckoo, Green Woodpecker, Redstart & Bull Finches, as their numbers will start to increase. We have four splendid walks organised for you this month taking in hills, fells, rivers, lakes, woods & moorland. This month also includes the group’s walking week away to Jersey. People do amazing things to raise money for the causes they care about, and this year the SWG is raising money for Rosemere Cancer Care. So far this year, the SWG has raised approximately £464 but with a little effort I think we could raise even more money for our chosen charity. This month, we would like to gather together a crack team to participate in a fund-raising car boot sale, which will take place on Sat 27th May @ 6.30am at Botany Bay Chorley. We would like to invite you to help us and raise money for this worthy cause. So, if you would like to donate good quality items for us to sell, or if you could assist us on the stalls, that would be equally amazing. The SWG has kindly agreed to pay the £10 entrance fee for each volunteer vehicle that is taking part. To add to the fun, and so that the pitches can be grouped in close proximity, we plan to arrive at the Botany Bay car boot together and set up our own little area of stalls. SUNDAY 7th MAY SUNDAY 21st MAY NIDDERDALE AND BRIMHAM ROCKS WOLF FELL, FAIR SNAPE AND PARLICK 9½ Miles 7½ miles   Led by Jinette Led by Rod An exhilarating walk with extensive views over Explore the magnificent fells and moors above Chipping Nidderdale. Then the incredible Brimham Rocks. with, weather permitting, superb 360 degree views. Meeting Place: Far end of Nidd Walk car park, Pateley Mainly on good paths with a few boggy areas. Involves Bridge. Car parking £1.40 some climbing. HG3 5NA Meeting Place: Chipping village long stay car park £1.80 Directions: From Preston take M6 south, A59 past PR3 2QH Clitheroe, Gisburn, Skipton, Blubberhouses. Then follow Directions: From Preston head towards M6 J31A, and take signs for Pateley Bridge. Over bridge. The car park is the B6243 to Longridge. From Longridge follow B6244 and immediately on the right. signs for Chipping. Journey time from Preston approx. 1hr 20 mins Journey time from Preston approx. 35 mins. Please note: Dogs are not allowed on these Fells SUNDAY 14th MAY CAPPLESTONE GATE WHARFEDALE YORKSHIRE SUNDAY 28thMAY DALES KENTMERE HORSESHOE 9 Miles 12 Miles   Led by Maurice Led by Derek A lovely hilly scenic circular walk in Wharfedale The Kentmere horseshoe is one of the classic Lake visiting Kettlewell and Conistone. Exit M6 J36 then roundabout. At the roundabout, take the 1st exit take A590 and A591 towards Windermere. Exit the A591 on to Grassington Rd/B6265. Continue to follow B6265 for the right following signposts for Staveley. Pass through 7½ miles and continue on the B6160 for 3 miles to reach Staveley then follow signs for Kentmere. Look for the Church Conistone. and the Village Hall.
