Introduction

I really love my dual roles as Editor and Writer of Soul Treasures , the KaleidoSoul Kindred Spirits Members’ Newsletter. And one of my favorite jobs in those roles is seeking out resources for SoulCollagers to enhance their practice.

It’s a pleasure to stumble across a website or CD that I know will resonate with you. I often wander around the web searching for sites that have potential to enhance our inner wisdom and outer knowledge. And I am pretty much addicted now to seeking out music in many genres that will lift our minds, bodies and spirits.

It’s true that each of the resources included in this e-book have appeared in a previous issue of Soul Treasures already. My hope in compiling them into this one volume is that you can keep it on your shelf or in your computer as a permanent colossal SoulCollage® reference.

Several of the categories overlap, so please be sure to look at all of your favorites!

Thank you so much for your interest in our KaleidoSoul resources. May these books and movies serve to enhance your SoulCollage® practice for many years to come.

Peace, joy and blessings,

Anne Marie Bennett Beverly, MA December 2010

Four Corners , by Craig Chaquico. During the '70s and '80s, guitarist/ Craig Chaquico played lead guitar with the popular rock band Jefferson Starship, which surprised me as this album is distinctly New Age with a hint of the Southwest. Since the early '90s, Chaquico diversified his music and branched out more into new age or world music, as can be heard in his song "Just One World" and the 1994 album Acoustic Planet, his blend of guitar playing and recordings of African and Native American music. The song became part of NASA's Space Ark project and is now in permanent orbit around the Earth. Chaquico continued to release throughout the latter half of the '90s, but it was his charity work that deserved the most attention as he began to play one free hospital concert a week for children. He also encouraged many of his contemporaries and friends to perform similar shows. Recommended by Kindred Spirit Laurie in California.

Garden of the Gods , by Deuter. I am listening to this right now and as with everything by Deuter, this one also sounds magical to me. It has the singular quality of being able to slow down my rushing mind. This one also has some ethereal sounding vocals with it. Ahhh…

Healing Sanctuary , by Dean Evanson. Soothing, beautiful music that will enhance any healing work that you do with your shadow. I love using this for my own inner dialoguing. It is unobtrusive and healing.

The Healing Spirit , by Diane Arkenstone. This is my current favorite "quiet music" to play while journaling with my cards. Soft yet vibrant. I feel like I've "come home" whenever I hear this music.

In the Arms of Angels , by J. Michele Bodine. Give yourself the gift of inner peace with this soothing, gorgeous music. Perfect for healing work, meditating, and creating SoulCollage® cards!

Inner Peace - by Steven Halpern. Inner Peace is the title, and inner peace is what I receive whenever I listen to this beautiful CD.

Vocal- Words and Lyrics

A ew Day Has Come , by Celine Dion. The title song on this CD is a wonderful one to play when starting a new venture. Listen to it and see if your soul doesn't open up a bit wider to make room for the new.

A ew Journey , by Celtic Woman. Beautiful vocal, instrumental and choral music from the group Celtic Woman. My favorites on this CD are: Over the Rainbow, Vivaldi's Rain , and The Prayer . Ethereal sound, simply gorgeous and inspiring.

Acoustic Soul , by India.Arie. Even if the only song you ever listen to here is Strength, Courage and Wisdom , you'll be happy to own this one. Her voice is smooth, rich and full of spirit. I See God in You , and Beautiful are also favorites of mine. If you've never heard India Arie, you'll find her music inspiring and centering in a special, soul-full way.

All the Way to Heaven , by Jan Phillips. My dear friend, Karen Mann, told me about this CD and I know that you will love it too. It's full of songs about the creative process, and is soothing and uplifting at the same time. I've been playing it in the background while doing tedious computer work and it's amazing how just staying in touch with the creative side of myself helps me get through those chores more quickly. I don't think there's another CD like this on the whole planet, and I highly recommend it to you. It doesn't seem to be available at Amazon, so I am sending you to CDBaby for this one.

Awake , by Josh Groban. His voice is as rich and expressive as Andrea Bocelli's. This is beautiful background music for driving and/or creating. My favorite song on this one is called You Are Loved (Don't Give Up) . Play it when you're feeling down and I swear you'll believe that angels are surrounding you.

Bathhouse Betty , by Bette Midler. You HAVE to listen to the song I'm Beautiful on this CD!!! I love to turn it up really loud and to it every so often, just as a reminder. (The preview you can listen to on Amazon doesn't play the best part, where she sings over and over I'm beautiful, I'm beautiful, I'm beautiful, damnit !)

Dance Your Spirit , by Mark Stanton Welch. I "accidentally" picked this up recently in a bookstore and bought it purely on faith. Wow! Mark is the musician/singer/songwriter who performs with Sonia Choquette during her workshops and retreats. The tracks on this CD are extended movement and dance songs that will lift your body, mind and spirit. I love to turn mine up really loud while I'm cooking or cleaning and just dance myself into the chores. P.S. His other CD's are awesome as well.

Deeper Still , by Beth Nielson Chapman. The words to these songs are exquisite and the music itself is transporting and will gently rock you into a world of self-acceptance and grace. In the liner notes, Chapman talks about the songs as "amazing journey... angels, detours, side trips through purgatory, bursts of grace and gratefulness...." Listen and hear/feel for yourself the beauty of this music.

Ebb and Flow , by Jennifer Bloomer. Bloomer's songs are full of healing and soul; each one reflects her own inner journey.

Grace and Gratitude , by Olivia Newton-John. I can't wait for you to hear this one! There are so many tracks on this that are just brimming over with spirituality and messages for your soul. My favorites are Pearls on a Chain , and Love is Letting Go of Fear .

Greatest Stories Live , by . This is my favorite Harry Chapin CD because every single song here tells a story (Mr. Tanner, 30,000 Pounds of Bananas, I Want to Learn a Love Song). You can't listen to this man's music (he wrote all the songs here) and not be touched. I first heard of Harry Chapin when some of my college roommates went to one of his concerts. They invited me but I didn't go, and I'll always regret it because he died shortly after that. My favorite soul song here is Circle . Remember it? All my life's a circle, sunrise and sundown... the moon rolls into evening 'til the daybreak comes around.... Lots of imagery and ideas to enhance your life journey, and your SoulCollage® journey too.

Josh Groban - This man's music is perfect, flowing, and rich. It creates a stillness in my soul that is unmatched by other vocalists. His other CDs are beautiful too but I love this one best because it contains Let Me Fall , and Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring (listen and you'll hear what I mean!).

Journey to the Goddess , by Lisa Thiel. This CD was recommended on another site and I've been listening to it ever since I got it a few days ago. There is a separate song/chant for each goddess... and they are all uplifting and inspiring and soothing all at the same time. I love this CD, and think you will too!

Kindred , by Kevin Wood. Voices of nostalgia and joy will take you on a spiritual journey from the plains of the American Southwest to the misty moors of Ireland and beyond. The stories they sing are set against modern grooves and ethereal to create a rich listening experience. May the music remind us we are all connected, bound together by spirit, as well as our appreciation for beauty. Indeed, we are all. . . Kindred.

Kidults , by Mandy Patinkin. This is one of the most talented and versatile performers I've ever heard. Not only can he act, he can sing up a storm too. And this particular CD is my favorite... for the child in all of us. Some of these songs will be familiar to you and some will be brand new. But all will tickle your funny bone and enchant your inner child. I promise!

Songs of Kuan Yin A gathering of some of today’s most passionate and talented female performers bring you music inspired by the goddess of compassion. Includes 10 devotional offerings that will immerse you in the cool cleansing waters of Kuan Yin’s presence.

Let the Change Begin , by Jana Stanfield. I came across this site in a lovely synchronistic moment and have been thanking my lucky stars ever since! She calls herself the "Queen of Heavy Mental " because her music is about self-love and emotions and forgiveness. And other things too. I always feel better when I listen to one of these CD's, and I truly believe that if radio stations played more of this kind of music, the world would be a much happier place. You can listen to lots of song samples on her site. Here are a few of my favorites: Amazing Things, Between the o Longer and the ot Yet, All the Good, and othin' I Can Do About It ow.

One Incredible Life , by Kathy Zavada. Brand new collection of songs from a much-loved singer and songwriter. Her music is deeply inspired and insightful, and her voice is clear and constant. Each piece resonates deeply within me. Can be sung in groups also as part of opening/closing rituals. The songs here reflect the deep reflections of an expanded consciousness, as well as glorious celebration in gratitude for life.

Oremi , by Angelique Kidjo. A brilliant combination of soul, rhythm and blues. My favorite song on this CD is "Open Your Eyes.” One reviewer calls her music "a wave of higher consciousness." Immensely soothing and dance-able.

Praises for the World , by Jennifer Berezan. This is one of my very favorite CD's, although I love her others as well. It is perfect background music for a SoulCollage® card making session. What I love about it is that the words are a slow and steady, lilting chant that remind me of how we are all connected. Various soothing chants, male and female, all in English.

Pure , by Hayley Westenra. Lovely vocals by a young performer. This CD has the most beautiful recording of Amazing Grace that I've ever heard.

Return to Pooh Corner , by Kenny Loggins. An album for all the children within us.

Sacred Ground , by Sweet Honey in the Rock. Stunning music that will get you up out of your seat and dancing in no time. If you've never heard Sweet Honey in the Rock, check this CD out.

Shine , by Karen Drucker. This awesome CD has 12 tracks on it, and each one is meant to inspire (and does inspire!) anyone who is on a personal journey of inner discoveries. My very favorite is "Three Little Words," but I really do love them all. Whenever I listen to any of Karen's music, I always feel uplifted, and just a little bit stronger than I was before.

Shrek Movie Soundtrack Fun! fun! fun! I loved the movie, and the soundtrack is just as awesome. There are upbeat and funny songs, as well as Rufus Wainwright's haunting Hallelujah .

Songs for the Inner Child , by Shaina Noll. There's a song I play at the beginning of all my Introduction to SoulCollage® Workshops. It's called Return Again , and it's on this wonderful CD that is full of many songs that will appeal to your inner child, as well as your inner mother, and many more of your inner committee members.

Songs of the Circle , by Leah Wolfsong. Songs and chants for women in all kinds of circles. Singing, drumming, breathing, healing, dancing, feeling... it's all here in these earthy songs.

Songs of the Spirit I , by Karen Drucker. If you've never heard this songwriter/artist, hop right on over to this link and listen to clips of some of her spirit-filled and soul-full songs. I love her music, and think you will too. Some of the tracks on this album include: Are You Ready to Receive, The Healing Song, I Give Myself Permission, Woman's Spirit .

Splash! Bathtime and Bedtime Music for GrownUp Girls , by Trish Bruxvoort Colligan. This is such a fun and beautiful CD... I can't wait for you to hear it. Trish calls it "an invitation to radical self-love." The songs are uplifting and all about grace, self-kindness, balance and self- acceptance. Note: You do not need to be in the bathtub to enjoy this music!

True To Yourself , by Albert Cummings. Get this CD for just one song ( Follow Your Soul ) but the rest of it is great too. Recommended by Kindred Spirit Lorraine in British Columbia

Waking Up Laughing , by Martina McBride. This is a remarkable album, even if you don't like "country!" My favorite song on this CD is called "Anyway" and here are some of the lyrics:

You can spend your whole life building something from nothing One storm can come and blow it all away Build it anyway

You can chase a dream that seems so out of reach and you know it might not ever come your way Dream it anyway

Chorus: God is great, but sometimes life ain't good And when I pray it doesn't always turn out like I think it should But I do it anyway, I do it anyway

What Would You Do This Year If You Had o Fear? - I am a HUGE fan of Jana Stanfield and this new 2-CD set is her best one yet. I highly recommend this, if you like songs about living authentically and from the heart. Some of the song titles are: George Bailey, If I Had o Fear, Learning to Fly MidAir, True Calling, All In This Together, Sister Thing ... and more. One whole CD is full of affirmations to dance to!

Vocal- Soothing

A Feather on the Breath of God , by Hildegard von Bingen. I heard this music about 15 years ago in a class where senior students were painting. The music is profoundly beautiful, just like a feather on the breath of God. Whenever I experience difficult patches in my life this music lifts my spirit and speaks to my soul. The music encompasses all that is holy, sacred, beautiful - pure love. Hildegard von Bingen was a nun in the middle ages - controversial, intellectual and spiritual. --- Recommended by Kindred Spirit Maggie in Gauteng, South Africa

Alleluia to the Pachelbel Canon in D , by Robert Gass and Wings of Song. Beautiful, soft, soothing chanting. Zone out or zone in... either way, you'll love this heavenly music.

Ancient Voices , by Ah Nee Mah. Mystical sound, Native American tone. Beautiful.

Atlantis Angelis , by Patrick Bernard. I heard this recently during a massage and felt like I was surrounded by divine love and grace. All of Bernard's unique music embraces the healing qualities of sounds, melodies, harmonies, and rhythms. It is deeply calming and also holy, as he is singing in Sanskrit and other holy languages. I have been playing it (and others of his) almost non-stop while I'm cooking, meditating, journaling, and playing at my art table. I'm even listening to it right now while I'm writing this!

Atmospheres , by Deuter. Mystical and inviting, this music gently envelopes and embraces you in a blanket of musical color.

The Book of Secrets , by Loreena McKennitt. If you've never heard McKennitt before, you should definitely give her a listen! These are soft, lyrical vocals with a melodic, Celtic flair.

Brother Sun, Sister Moon - medieval and renaissance chants directed by John Rutter. The first half of this CD contains chants for morning (Brother Sun) and these are uplifting, energetic, glorious really! The other half contains chants for evening (Sister Moon) and are soothing, peaceful, restful, almost dreamy.

Canyon Trilogy , by R. Carlos Nakai. Native American flute music, also referred to as jazz fusion. Carlos Nakai creates the sound of the cedar flute echoing in the canyons and valleys of the vast Southwest, and believe me, it is just gorgeous! Recommended by Kindred Spirit Kat in California.

Chant , by the Benedictine Monks of Santo Domingo de Silos. Here's some soothing, soul-full music for background music for your card making and other soul-full activities.

Eden , by Sarah Brightman. Several years ago I was driving to work and I heard this artist on the radio. She sounded like an angel. I'd never heard anything quite so beautiful. When I got to work, I called the radio station and asked what the song was and this is the album. A classic. Her voice is crystal clear and warm at the same time.

English Ladymass , by Anonymous 4. I listened to this the other morning while journaling and felt my spirit soaring. This is a female quartet performing medieval chant. Simply divine!

The Essence by Deva Premal. I first heard her music at a Kripalu retreat. Soothing chants, peaceful, meditative.

The Isle of Dreaming , by Kate Price. Weaving masterful dreamscapes centered around angelic vocals, Kate Price creates contemporary international folk fusion of classical, jazz and ethnic music using instruments from many cultures. An emotional, multi-faceted journey from darkness to light featuring cello, classical guitar, Nyckelharpa, sitar, electric sitar, tabla, Nigerian udu, oboe and English horn.

Mother Divine , by Kurt Van Sickle. Beautiful CD of chants for the mother and child within you.

Om amaha Shivaya , by Robert Gass and On Wings of Song . Powerful, soothing, continuous chant. This music always makes me feel spacious and calm, no matter what else I'm doing while listening to it.

Once In A Red Moon by Secret Garden. A friend of mine sent me this for my birthday a few years ago. I had never heard of them, but now I'm addicted! Here's the official description: The duo of Irish violinist Fionnuala Sherry and pianistcomposer Rolf Lovland refine their specialty of making classical/contemporary/Celtic miniepics in small orchestral and choral settings. Moreover, each piece elicits reflection, celebration, or atonement with the divine.

Pacifica - by Pia. Beautiful, lush New Age vocals. Sensual and uplifting.

The Prayer Cycle , A Choral Symphony in ine Movements , by . I play this CD over and over as I work (play!) at my art table. Listen to what this reviewer had to say (because I can't say it any better than this): It is with primitive urgency and lustrous clarity rising like flickering embers from a fire that Jonathan Elias's ambitious Prayer Cycle is given voice. Woven together like knotty wool, silk, and fine strands of silvery water, the disparate yet complementary voices of James Taylor , , Yungchen Lhamo , Ofra Haza , the American Boychoir, Linda Ronstadt , and others intertwine in multiple languages with the superb English Chamber Orchestra and Chorus. Prayers of supplication, gratitude, and longing build in layers, one on top of and 'twixt and 'tween the other, as movements titled "Mercy," "Grace," "Innocence," "Compassion," and the like. Remarkably, Elias's Prayer Cycle eloquently captures the ecstasy, pain, grief, and sublime beauty of humanityas he simply and poignantly writes in his liner notes, "The world we live in is both joyous and cruel." Paige La Grone

Realms of Grace : an Angelic Experience , by Aeoliah. Celestial music to bring you deep inner peace.

Return to Innocence (from the album ), by Enigma. There is indeed a soul remembrance with this Native American chanting CD. The music always brings me to a place of gratitude. It makes me feel like I've gone back to a time before I was born. Hearing it "returns" me to what's really important: a with self and soul. Listen to this sample on YouTube. --- Recommended by Kindred Spirit Cheryl in Illinois.

Sapphire ight , by Tapestry. The music of Hildegard von Bingen. Amazing collection of vocal music by this Boston based vocal group. They perform music by Hildegard von Bingen as well as music written in the Hildegard style by modern composer Patricia Van Ness. This collection is well sung and evokes a feeling of mystery, awe, and relaxation.

She Carries Me , by Jennifer Berezan. This luscious music will definitely bring you closer to Spirit. There are two fairly long tracks of very simple, soothing chants. The first one is She Who Hears the Cries of the World . The second is She Carries Me . If you believe in the power of the Divine Feminine, this music will put you closer in touch with Her.

Shi De: A Call for World Peace . Shi De means "peace that brings happiness" and the achingly pure soprano voice of this Tibetan singer aims to heal the world. Try it and see. I find these songs soothing, mystical and enchanting.

Songs of Sanctuary , by Adiemus. Energetic, uplifting, mysterious and magical. Soothing and full of energy at the same time. Try it, you'll like it.

Soulflight: Chanted Mantras for Healing & Illumination , by Bhavani Nelson. When I was assisting at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, I had the privilege of working with Bhavani during a morning workshop session on chanting. Her voice is absolutely beautiful, and I did experience a wealth of healing while lying in meditation, absorbing her music. I think you'll love this CD.

Testimony: Volume1, Life & Relationship , by India Arie. Another classic by one of my favorite female artists. I especially love Good Mourning, Private Party , and I Choose. Her music just literally makes me feel good all over- physically, emotionally and mentally. Her songs are about real life, and about loving ourselves exactly as we are.

The Visit , by Loreena McKennit. Her voice will sound to you like an angel hushing you to sleep. Her music is Celtic in origin, but ethereal in spirit. Perfect background music for SoulCollage card making and readings.

Voices of the Sacred - All of these lush, beautiful tracks were personally chosen by Caroline Myss . As such, it is a collection of spiritual and sacred operatic songs. Performed by the soaring voices of the Bellissima Opera, each song was created by its composer to be a sacred prayer filled with heart and soul. Listen in quiet and stillness and you will indeed be moved.

Woman Wisdom , by Juliana . I can't even remember where I found this CD, but I love its angelic sounds and ethereal vocals. Features personal songs about spirit guides, guardian angels, healing, animals, and self-belief. Also includes favorite myths and legends about Mermaids, and the Celts. This link takes you to Amazon.com. You can purchase it new, or you can save lots of money and buy it used. I've gotten great deals this way on Amazon, without paying full price.

Zen Mama , by Kamal. This recording includes one ancient chant by the Gyuto Monks and sounds that create an ambience of peace and beauty.

World Music

Djin Djin , by Angelique Kidjo. This artist has been opening for Josh Groban on his current tour and her music is divinely inspired, with an African influence. This newest CD of hers will have you smiling, singing and dancing in no time! By the way, djin djin is a bell that sounds at daybreak in certain parts of Africa.

Elephant Prayers , by Daniel Paul. The songs on this beautiful CD are simple, slow and soothing. They are based on a popular devotional form of folk music known as kirtan. Found in India for thousands of years, kirtan is a simple prayer sung with love and devotion, a gospel style of singing from the heart. Male and female voices mingle with bamboo flute, harp, dulcimer and other instruments. You can listen to a minute from each of the tracks too. Better still, purchase the mp3 version and the cost goes down.

My Spirit Flies To You , by The Buddhist Monks. 14 tracks that are a unique, beautiful mixture of North American and Tibetan chants. Lovely background music for housework, homework, or SoulCollage card making!

Sacred , by Kevin Wood. A stunning collage of multi-cultural chant samples, piano, and designed to capture the beauty of the world's spiritual traditions. Includes Gregorian chant and Native American chant

Spirit of the Forest , by Baka Beyond. They call themselves the original African Celtic crossover band. Their sound is a combination of music influenced by the Baka people, African rhythms and traditional Celtic tunes. Generally, their songs contain strong rhythms, traditional Baka singing style and exotic instruments including marimba, djembe, ning nong, soga, kongoma, panlogo, tama, kalabash and kora (African Harp). They give back through One Heart Global Music Exchange , a charity supporting many tribes in Africa through music and musical projects, run by the band and its supporters. Recommended by Kindred Spirit Laurie in California

Sundaryalahari: the Wave of Bliss , by Layne Raymond, celebrated percussionist. The music here is a fusion of Middle Eastern and Brazilian music with funk, rock, blues, and the ecstatic frame drums of Dionysus.

Tribe, by Gabrielle Roth and the Mirrors. I put her music on when I feel like dancing!

Walkabout - by Koorunba. Ahhh… my yoga teacher played this once during class and it was love at first sound

I've been using this for almost a year now and it's a brilliant way to keep me connected to myself, my core, my soul, instead of to the thoughts that run crazily in my mind.

Moonmaid Botanicals - I found this awesome site while looking for something else (isn't that always the way?). I've found that my skin is totally changed since I've hit menopause. Use this site for a list of needed items, creative ideas, and a shipping address. Just a simple reminder that children are mere bystanders in this war.

Pandora - Versatile radio station right online. Choose your favorite artists and songs, then let Pandora choose music for you. You can skip over songs that you don’t like, and Pandora will automatically note what you like and don’t like, completely personalizing your own radio station for you. Pinwheels for Peace - Here's a wonderful project that all SoulCollagers can participate in. Create an intentional SoulCollage® Card dedicated to Peace. The format will be slightly different than usual in that the card must be square in order for it to be converted into a pinwheel. You could collage directly onto the paper you will use for the pinwheel or color copy your image onto a separate sheet of paper and cut it into a square. On the back of the card you can write the "I am the one who..." wisdom that your card has to offer about peace. For directions on how to make a pinwheel and more info about this international project "Pinwheels for Peace," click on the link at the beginning of this paragraph.
