Over the last weekend, there was an array of fantastic events in which our students were involved: The WOMAD Jazz Festival in Adelaide was a marvelous experience for eighteen of our Year 9 musicians. Mr Tallis and Mrs Wood reported that the students had a wonderful time with many unique musical experienc- es. The days were long but the variety of performances (and food stalls) kept smiles on everyone’s faces. They saw shows and workshops from Africa, Malaysia, Cuba, Australia, Wales, South Korea and the USA. They were pleased with the students’ maturity and sense of responsibility in staying with their buddies and bringing the group together at the end of each performance. They were a great bunch of young people with whom to spend time. @REDDAM—The Reddam House High School Newsletter Volume 20, Issue 7 Friday 13th March 2020 Page 1 A number of excursions this week have advanced the The Year 12 Leadership group held a “Leadership So- students understanding, enjoyment and engagement cial” where they invited students in leadership positions in a number of subjects: from neighbouring schools to participate in an after- noon of fun networking. Students continue to learn how to hold Socratic seminars with one another and are working on structuring their thinking well, expressing their thinking clearly and confidently to each other. Philosophy Club has limited positions available for students in Years 8 and 9. If you would like to join Philosophy Club on Mondays at lunchtime please contact Ms. Guinea at [email protected] BEAUTY & THE BEAST For the past 6 weeks, over 100 Reddam House High School students have been busily preparing for a massive production of Disney's Beauty and the Beast at NIDA in Week 10. Students make up the orchestra, backstage crew, wardrobe team, hair & makeup team and cast, with a number of staff and professionals also assisting in the prepara- tion of this mammoth undertaking. Kyle Rowling from The Action Acting Academy has been working with a number of students who take part in stage combat scenes. His expertise has gifted these students a professional, fun and memorable experience whilst learning a huge amount of stage skills. Louis Fontaine of Year 11 had his face cast for a custom sculpted "Beast" prosthetic by Colin Wilson, a special effects makeup artist. These two professionals who teach at major institutions have a wealth of experience on stage and screen including Star Wars films, Opera Austral- ia and Sydney Theatre Company. Tickets go on sale Wednesday, March 18 from 10am. Please book early to avoid disappointment: https://premier.ticketek.com.au/shows/show.aspx?sh=REDDAMBB20. We very much look forward to presenting our students' work in Week 10. @REDDAM—The Reddam House High School Newsletter Volume 20, Issue 7 Friday 13th March 2020 Page 4 MACQUARIE UNIVERSITY NEWS AND EVENTS: ATTENTION STUDENTS IN YEAR 12 WISHING TO APPLY TO MEDICINE: Macquarie in a Day Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 April 2020 UNSW is holding a Medicine Info Evening on 18 March Year 10 Subject Selection Evening Wednesday 6 May UNSW is holding a LAT Information Evening 7 May 2020 Year 12 Information Evening Tuesday 19 & Wednesday YEAR 10: UNSW is holding Year 10 subject selection Eve- 20 May 2020 nings 7 and 30 April and 19 & 28 May 2020.
