Belluscio, Curriculum and Publications, last update 20190716 2 2000- current - Scientific Researcher in Albanian Language and Literature at the University of Calabria. 1999 - Albanian Language and Literature Teacher at the Liceo Classico Statale in San Demetrio Corone (Italy). 1997-2000 - Adjunct Professor of Albanian Dialects of Southern Italy at the University of Lecce Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literature 1995-1998 - Albanian Language and Literature Cultorate at the Faculty of Literatures and Philosophy of the University of Calabria. 1.3 Current Research Activities Priority is the coclusion of the phonetic study of all the spoken Albanian dialects in Southern Italy, a project already started with the university dissertation and continued with the PhD Dissertation. A Project started in 2012 on the distribution of the paraliturgical chants of the Holy Week, known as Kalimere, ethnomusicological and linguistic-textual analysis, in collaboration with the Ph.D. O. Gerlach. Till now only Calabrian-Albanian varieties have been studied; soon the project will be continued with other dialects of other Regions. The aim of the project is to publish some monographic volumes with recorded materials attached (CD). A linguistic monograph on the dialect of the Arbëresh community of San Basile, including a diachronic dialect analysis with a collection of sample texts and a dictionary is ready to be published. Textual analysis and an electronic lexical concordance of the drama Emira by Francesco Antonio Santori, manuscript written in 1862 ca. 1984-1986 - Field research, with acquisition of new recorded materials in the Italian-Albanian communities of Frascineto, Lungro and San Basile. 1988: Field research, with acquisition of new recorded materials in the Italian-Albanian community of Plataci. 1991-1994 - Field research, with acquisition of new recorded materials in the Italian-Albanian communities of Acquaformosa, Lungro, Firmo, San Basile, Frascineto, Eianina, Plataci, Castroregio, Farneta and Spezzano Albanese. 2004-2005 - Field research, with acquisition of new recorded materials in the Italian-Albanian communities of Vena di Maida and Caraffa di Catanzaro. 2005 -Field research, with acquisition of new recorded materials in the community of San Marzano di San Giuseppe (TA) and Casalvecchio di Puglia. 2006 - Field research, with acquisition of new recorded materials in the community of Ururi (CB). 2007 - August: Field research, with acquisition of new recorded materials, to be used for the linguistic description of the dialectal varieties of Thethi, Vermosh, Boga, (Northwestern Albania) 2012 - September Field research, with acquisition of new recorded materials for the description and study of the dialects of Bajram Curri, Dragobia, Cernica, Shoshani, Raja, Viçidol (Northeastern Albania). 2012-2013 - Field research and recordings of Paraliturgic Songs (Kalimere etc.) in 11 Arbëresh communities in Calabria. 2013 - September: Continuation in field research, with the acquisition of new recordings of sound and video materials, for the study of dialects of Bajram Curri, Dragobia, Cernica, Shoshani, Raja, Viçidol (Northeastern Albania). 1.4 Participation to Symposiums and Conferences G.     Long Lasting Differences in Civic Capital: Evidence from a Unique Immigration Event in Italy. E. Bracco, M. De Paola and C. Green Abstract We examine the persistence of cultural differences focusing on the Arberesh in Italy. The Arberesh are a linguistic and ethnic minority living in the south of Italy. They settled in Italy at the end of the XV century, following the invasion of the Balkans by the Ottoman Empire. Using a large dataset from the Italian parliamentary elections of the lower chamber of the Parliament, taking place from 1946 to 2008, we compare turnout in Arberesh municipalities with turnout in indigenous municipalities located in the same geographical areas. We also use two alternative different indicators of social capital like turnout at referendum and at European Parliament Elections. We find that in Arberesh municipalities turnout and compliance rates are higher compared to indigenous municipalities located in the same area. 1 I. INTRODUCTION A range of evidence now exists that demonstrates the relationship between social capital and a range of important socio-economic outcomes. Using a variety of proxies, social capital has been shown to have predictive power across a range of domains, including economic growth (Helliwell and Putnam, 1995; Knack and Keefer, 1997; Zak and Knack, 2001), trade (Guiso et al., 2004), well- functioning institutions (Knack, 2002), low corruption and crime (Uslaner, 2002; Buonanno et al., 2009) and well functioning financial markets (Guiso et al., 2004a). While this literature demonstrates large and long-lived within and across country differences in values, social and cultural norms rather less is known about the origins of these differences.

It is generally accepted that dialects at the geographical edge of a language community, like Randsprachen in a larger framework, tend to be more conservative and archaic than dialects in the middle. Colonial dialects (Canadian French, Kentucky English) also tend to show archaic features which have disappeared from the original homeland of the languages in question. It is for this reason one could suspect that the Albanian dialects of southern Italy, at the edge of the Albanian-speaking world, have a good number of archaic features, and this is indeed the case. The most archaic dialects of Albanian are in fact those of the Arbëresh colonies in Italy and Greece. Albanian emigration to Italy began in the late thirteenth century. Sporadic groups of Albanians had found their way to Italy in 1272, 1388 and 1393, but it was not until the mid- fifteenth century that settlements were established when Albanian troops under the command of Demetrius Reres were summoned to Italy by Alfonso I of Aragon (r. 1435-1458), the King of Naples, to put down a revolt in Calabria. For his assistance, Reres was offered land in Calabria in 1448, and there his soldiers and their families settled. His sons, George and Basil, are said later to have made their way to Sicily to establish the first Albanian colonies there. Mass settlement first began, however, with the Turkish invasion of the Balkans which resulted in a great exodus of Albanians to Italy.

What does Deus ex machina mean and what can we understand with it. Who have been the famous users of this convention? Controversies that it has faced by criticism and why some researchers didn’t accept that the earthquake (shkundullima), on the work Songs of Milosao of Girolamo De Rada, was a Deus ex machina. This invention of De Rada, in fact, being unique on its type, in which there is a supernatural phenomenon beyond human ability to be managed, such as an earthquake, used, by our poet, to realize resolution of a conflict, almost insurmountable for the time, such as extreme separation of stratum of Rina, a girl of low rural, and Milosaos, the son of the ruler of Shkodra. The couple needs a strong intervention, which is not part of a logical line of cause and effect of the subject. This external factor was created by De Rada by using of the earthquake as Deus ex machina. Here we manage to affirm clearly that the earthquake in twentieth song of the Songs of Milosao is a Deus ex machine.
