The Boston Choral Ensemble Miguel Felipe, Music Director peaceablea kingdom Friday, May 30, 2008 Sunday, June 1, 2008 First Church, UCC St. John the Evangelist Harvard Sq, Cambridge Beacon Hill, Boston the Boston Choral Ensemble Miguel Felipe, Music Director All About Us… the Boston Choral Ensemble Our Mission The Boston Choral Ensemble creates a fun, friendly, and open atmosphere for the musical development of musicians and audiences in the Greater Boston area. Members of the Boston Choral Ensemble grow musically, both as individuals and as an en- semble, through the rehearsal and performance of challenging, high-quality music. We strengthen Greater Boston’s choral community by: making choral music accessible and interesting to all listeners, regardless of musical background; developing musical inter- est and ability in young adult musicians; and collaborating with other local musicians. The Greater Boston Choral Consortium The Boston Chorale Ensemble is a member of the Greater Boston Choral Consortium (GBCC ), a cooperative association of diverse choral groups in Boston and the surround- ing areas. [See the GBCC listings beginning on page 19.] Saying Thanks We’d like to thank the following people and organizations: Nils Erickson for his record- ing expertise; Perrin Tellock for all the good food; Katrina Armando, Mark Buckles, Jane Ring Frank, Andy Vores, and all the others for help with the 2008 Commission Competition; Sara Willis for her outstanding leadership on BCE ’s participation in the 5th annual Walk for Music; Jon Swift, Rob McGilvray, and Rob Hanna at Starbucks for coordinating a generous corporate donation; friends and family for volunteering as ushers; The 21st Amendment for supporting the choir’s post-concert festivities; the administrators, staffs, and congregations of the Church of St. John the Evangelist, First Church in Cambridge, UCC , and Arlington Street Church, UU . 2. the Boston Choral Ensemble 7th Season :: 2007–2008 From the President Matthew Baggetta, Board President Dear Friends, It’s hard for me to believe that we’ve reached the end of another Boston Choral Ensemble season, but here we are. As we put the finishing touches on another year of music-making, much gratitude is in order. On behalf of BCE , I’d like to offer sincere thanks to… …everyone who has made our first annual Commission Competition such a stun- ning success, including Jane Ring Frank and Andy Vores our expert judges, Mark Buckles who offered advice on competition design, Rob McGilvray who lugged stacks of scores and applications from the post office, Katrina Armando Potts who sorted and filed those hundreds of pages of materials, all the brilliant composers from around the world who submitted applications, and especially to Zachary Wad- sworth, our competition winner, for writing such a strikingly beautiful piece for us; …Rosie’s Place, a “sanctuary for poor and homeless women,” and the Boston Medical Center for welcoming us into their noble institutions to share our music earlier this spring; …the leadership, staff, and congregations of Arlington Street Church, First Church Cambridge, and the Church of St. John the Evangelist for providing us rehearsal and performance space and all manner of encouragement and support; …all the members of BCE ’s Board of Directors, and especially outgoing Board members Sara Willis and Jessica Holroyd, for their creative, committed, and tire- less efforts to keep our group moving forward; …Katherine Foley, our assistant to the director, and Branden Grimmett, our rehearsal accompanist, for skillfully (and patiently) helping us through the music learning process; …our music director, Miguel Felipe, for another inspired year of musical leader- ship; … and most importantly, all of you, for making the Walk for Music fundraiser such a huge success (we reached our $8,000 goal!) and for being here today to celebrate the joy of choral music and to share in our hope for A Peaceable Kingdom.
