This Grade II* listed property takes its name from times gone by when it was a thriving outlet for the farming/ ancillary trades industry producing rush baskets and containers. This is just one of the historic uses of this charming period building up to the present day. One of the joys of this house is its amazing flexibility of use from a grocery shop to a much-loved residential home. The 4,575 square feet (426sqm) of area offers both flexibility and much potential to be realised for a new owner to utilise and make their own. For instance, as a family home, with sufficient space for elderly relatives, as office/ shop space working from home - there are 8 telephone lines installed and ample room for a large number of employees to work in a pleasant village environment, away from the hustle & bustle of city life. Alternatively the large rooms offer excellent space for antique sales/ book collectors or simple hobby space. The source of The River Deben runs all the way from Debenham village to the mouth of the Deben at Woodbridge. It is said that this route from Woodbridge was a popular passage to the centre of Debenham during Medieval times. Wool was transported to Flanders via this route as the sheep trade prospered in Suffolk/ north Essex as demand grew for woollen cloth throughout most of Europe. In the reign of Henry VIII many people from Flanders fled the raging wars and emigrated to England. How things have changed! Today Debenham is not a primary manufacturing centre, although Bloomfield Installations (farming related) remains. There are many local amenities to include co - op, hardware shop, jewellers, large community/leisure centre, butcher, florist, hairdresser, bakers, chemist, doctors surgery, fire station, antiques shops and newsagent. DESCRIPTION The Weavers represents a unique opportunity to acquire a fascinating Grade II* Listed period residence believed to originally date back to the 15th/16th Century and retaining a wealth of character features including exposed beams and timbers and pargeting to the side elevation adjacent to Water Lane. A substantial Victorian barn is located to the rear of the main house and has been sympathetically converted in more recent times to living accommodation on the first floor and currently include a vast area of over 50ft in length on the ground floor which is presently used as an indoor cinema with adjacent workshop and store. The property has enjoyed a varied history and has had a commercial/business use and was a prominent shop know as Baldry Brothers Grocery Store around 1910 and more recently has been a gallery. The property is now a Cambridge | Saffron Walden | Newmarket | Ely | Haverhill | Sutton | London residential dwelling but does provide interesting options for further conversion of the ground floor area of the barn subject to planning consent and may offer prospects for commercial use subject to the necessary consents. DC/20/02129 Land South East of Low Road- Erection of 18no dwellings (including 6no affordable dwellings). Construction of new vehicular access off Low Road 1- The Debenham Parish Council strongly supports the principle of development of the site, as it is in accordance with Policies 1 and 4 of the adopted Debenham Neighbourhood Plan. 2- The Debenham Parish Council welcomes the provision of affordable housing and the bungalows proposed but requests that properties with two to three bedrooms are provided, not single bedroom ones. Policy 6 of the adopted Debenham Neighbourhood Plan applies. 3- The Debenham Parish Council would like to request that this development contributes to the provision and the improvement of off-site pedestrian and cycle routes to the village centre, from the application site. Policy 2 (d) of the adopted Debenham Neighbourhood Plan applies. 4- Development of the application site (DEB 4) must provide free and unrestricted pedestrian and cycle access from site DEB 3 to Low Road. Policy 4 of the adopted Debenham Neighbourhood Plan applies. 5- Overall, the Debenham Parish Council objects to the application due to the creation of a permanent vehicular access from the development onto Low Road. Policy 4 of the adopted Debenham Neighbourhood Plan applies. If Mid Suffolk District Council are minded to approve the scheme, then any vehicular access onto Low Road must be temporary , until such time when it can be achieved onto Ipswich Road, via the development of site DEB3, specified in Policy 3 of the adopted Debenham Neighbourhood Plan.

Suffolk’s natural environment is undoubtedly one of Suffolk’s key strengths. It is one of the golden threads holding together what makes this county great. People who live and work here often say how much they value its beauty, whether it is our coast, our wild heathland and forests in both east and west, our river valleys and estuaries, or the deeply rural nature of our agricultural landscapes. It is a truly wonderful county to live in. But we must not overlook the importance of Suffolk’s landscapes and wildlife to our society. The ‘natural capital’ of Suffolk is the foundation of many businesses, particularly in the tourism and farming sectors, and it is strongly associated with Councillor Mark Bee physical and mental wellbeing.

  • A Debenham and Debnam Baptism Index
A Debenham and Debnam Baptism Index This index contains pointers to baptism records of members of Debenham and Debnam families prior to July 1837. Most of the entries have not been substantiated by reference to the original registers or copies of the registers, and unless a specific date is shown should be considered an indication only of a likely baptism. It is certainly incomplete, and further entries will be added from time to time as they become available. It should be noted that spellings in the original register entries may vary quite widely. This is mainly because before the nineteenth century literacy was a scarce resource. The information has been drawn from a large number of sources, including original register entries or copies, researched pedigrees and much information gratefully received from other workers in the field. It is presented “as is”, with no guarantee of accuracy. I shall, as always, be very pleased to receive further information, both corrections and additions to the present list. To make the best use of space counties are shown using three-letter Chapman Codes, a genealogical standard widely used for the purpose. These codes are listed in a number of genealogical textbooks and are also available on the Internet on the Wikipedia, Rootsweb and Genuki sites, amongst others. This document is security protected. It can be displayed and printed, but the contents cannot be electronically copied or altered. Version 5.0, May 2011. © 2005 - 2011 Michael Debenham.
