Title: Pet Match Up Recommended for: 2-5 Year Olds
Objectives:

Materials Needed: • Cut out pictures of pets (from magazines, photos, or websites)
Methods: Facilitator Preparation 1. Cut out the pictures of the pets from the bottom of the activity sheet.
Intergenerational Participants 1. Introduction- sing the hello song together as a group. 2. Upon entering the room, each child will be given a single picture of half of a pet. 3. Have the children go around the room searching for the adult who has their matching pet. 4. Once they find their match, have the IG pairs discuss: a. What type of pet this is? How do you take care of a pet? What other animals can be pets? How would you take care of them? Do you have a pet? What kind, name, age, etc. 5. Have the IG pairs share with the group what they learned about their partner. a. Option: Mix up the papers and repeat exercise with new partners/pets. 6. Clean up and goodbye song.
Special Considerations • This activity can be done outside. • Participants can bring in a picture of their pet and tell a story about their animal.
Getting To Know You • “______can you ask ______what their favorite animal is?” • Have IG pairs discuss what types of pets they would not want to have in the home.

• Have IG pairs discuss what to do if a pet ran away. • Have IG pairs discuss why people like to have pets as animals. • Have IG pairs brainstorm what animals can live in the home and what animals have to stay at the zoo. • Have IG pairs discuss what a seeing eye dog/guide dog is. Who can benefit from this type of service animal?
