EXHIBITIONS ON NOW DARBY JAMPIJINPA ROSS: MAKE IT GOOD FOR THE PEOPLE Araluen Galleries until 25 January This exhibition and publication project celebrates the role of Darby Jampijinpa Ross as a senior founding artist and mentor at the Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Association, following the inception of the art centre at Yuendumu in 1985-6. Today it is one of Australia’s most successful remote community art centre enterprises. This is a travelling exhibition mnanaged by the Griffith Artworks and Dell Gallery ( College of Art, Griffith University).

CAAMA NAMED NATION'S BEST COMMUNITY RADIO An Alice Springs community radio station has been named the best in Australia. The Central Australian Aboriginal Media Association (CAAMA) won the Tony Staley Award for broadcasting excellence at the Community Broadcasters Association of Australia conference. CALLING FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST TO BE AN EXHIBITION ATTENDANT AT THE 53RD VENICE BIENNALE 2009 Closing 16 January 2009 The Australia Council in partnership with Arts NT is again offering a professional development opportunity for an Exhibition Attendant from the NT to work at the Venice Biennale 2009 as part of the Australian Exhibition Attendants at the Venice Biennale 2009 program. This professional development opportunity will enable the participating individuals to experience a wide range of contemporary art practice and stimulation to think of new ways of presenting contemporary Australian art and ideas for future projects. The selected attendants will undertake management and security of the Pavilion at Giardini and at Ludoteca, guide groups through the exhibition, assist VIP visitors, keep attendance records and coordinate staffing and sales etc and be required to be in Venice for a minimum of six weeks, with a maximum stay of three months. A shortlist of up to three candidates from the NT will be forwarded by Arts NT to the Australia Council, who will conduct interviews with shortlisted applicants before making a selection. 2009 DARWIN FESTIVAL 14 - 31 AUGUST Closing 6 March 2009 Submissions sought for 2009 Darwin Festival. The Darwin Festival - 13-30 August 2009 - is calling artists to submit applications for the upcoming festival. The Festival generally has an idea of who it would like to invite be part of the program. Therefore, we do not encourage unsolicited applications. However NT artists are encouraged to send in an application particularly for projects involving collaboration with artists in various art forms; Indigenous artists and youth projects. ARTPOST An interactive website and short video series for TV broadcast, which showcases artists living in regional and remote parts of the country. The centrepiece of www.abc.net.au/artpost, is a digital interactive arts map of Australia where you can watch artists at work in their studio. The site provides the tools for students, teachers, art lovers and artists to create short videos about who they are and their work, for inclusion on the digital map. In five easy steps, a video can be created and uploaded directly to what will become a living art gallery of all corners of Australia. These videos will also be broadcast on ABC1 and ABC2. We want as many artists as possible to get on the job and submit a digital video or stills profile to the Artpost web-site. NT WRITERS' FESTIVAL EYE OF THE STORM 2009 VOLUNTEERS The Eye of the Storm will be needing a strong team of volunteers who will perform various duties such as: front-of-house, stage management, driving and ticket sales. REGISTER OF INDIGENOUS PERFORMING ARTS Top End Arts Marketing (TEAM) is setting up a register of Indigenous performing artists which will be used to help promote Top End Indigenous performance within the Territory, interstate and even overseas. To make the register successful, TEAM would like to include as many groups and performers as possible of all types - musicians, actors, dancers, and storytellers - and need to include performers from towns and from remote communities. TEAM hope to include the Top End’s best known performers with national and international reputations, but also people who may so far be known only in their home communities. GRANTS NEW INITIATIVE IN THE AREA OF MUSIC THEATRE Closing date 28 January 2009 This initiative will assist the creation and presentation of engaging, high quality contemporary Australian music theatre. It is aimed at creative and technical practitioners, working in direction, production, music and sound to collaborate on the production of new works that excite, challenge and engage audiences. Partnership proposals are encouraged. For the purposes of this initiative the definition of music theatre is broad. It may encompass contemporary work created and/or presented in experimental or more traditional staged forms, and include chamber opera, musical theatre, cross-cultural, hybrid or sound works that push the boundaries of the artform. Although this is a three-year initiative, applicants should note that 2008/09 is the only year that a quick-turnaround grant initiative will be available. Funding is primarily available for cultural, community and local government organisations that run festivals in regional and remote areas of Australia. COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS CLOSING DATES 2009 Most funding categories will change in 2009. While we have had to change dates we have ensured that there is still flexibility in the project categories for people to able to apply twice in the one calendar year if they wish too. Please note that any unsuccessful applicant from Rounds 1, 2 or 3 will have the opportunity to re-apply to Round 4. The full package of information about CP funding categories, guidelines and selection criteria should be available on www.australiacouncil.gov.au in early January 2009. Please also note that the 2008 category of Key Partnerships Initiative has been replaced by Creative Communities Partnership Initiative (CCPI) and it has no closing date. Information on CCPI and new round dates are already up on our website. The seed funding for Partnership Development (also known as Category A) in 2008, is now Partnership Development only and also has no closing date in 2009. CHARLES SEE KEE AWARDS Closing 19 December. The Charles See Kee Awards, were established by the Northern Territory Government in 2004. The awards recognise and celebrate people, organisations and initiatives that have made a valuable contribution towards the advancement of multiculturalism in the Northern Territory. THE IAN POTTER CULTURAL TRUST Since its inception in 1992, The Ian Potter Foundation has provided a platform for emerging Australian artists, providing a crucial kick start into their careers. The trust aims to cultivate and nurture cultural diversity and excellence within the arts and grants are provided to individuals in support of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art, community arts, conservation and moveable cultural heritage, crafts, design, literature, music, performing arts, radio, film, television, video and visual arts.
