God does, and now Jacob’s name is changed to Israel, which means Governed by God. He faces his brother, they make up, and Jacob still a schemer, says I’ll catch up to you bro go ahead. And Jacob goes a different way. He does not go to Bethel, which as we will see tonight should have been his destination, but stops off near Shechem. Well he instead of being the spiritual leader of his household, kind of leaves his children to themselves. Dinah his little princess makes friends with the girls of Shechem. They teach her their provocative ways, and she than catches the eye of the prince Shechem. P a g e | 2 Now in the Canaanite lands the men would not think twice to have sex with whomever they wanted. Especially a prince, he did not know the customs, and morals of Dinah’s people. And he rapes her, and falls in love with her, and wants to marry her. Well then her brothers are infuriated. Simeon and Levi make a scandalous deal with the people of Shechem, if they circumcise every male they will intermarry with them. -

When she dies in Numbers 20:1-2, the people are without water. Proverbs 31:23 – Three Wise Women, Part 2 “Her husband is known in the gates when he sits among the elders of the land.” ~Proverbs 31:23 In Part 1 of our study on Proverbs 31:23, you saw a real-life picture of what an ungodly, unbiblically submissive wife looks like. You witnessed my sinful and wretched prayer life as well as my "holier than thou" attitude against my husband in which Satan so skillfully used to cause much strife and division in my household. I allowed Satan to use me as a baseball bat to beat my husband (basically, I was beating my own head) and recklessly tear down my house with my own hands (Prov 14:1b). “I am speaking in human terms, because of your natural limitations. For just as you once presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness leading to sanctification.” ~Romans 6:19 We will now turn our attentions to three wise women in the Bible that truly understood what biblical submission is all about. In His righteousness, the Lord our God saw fit to use these women as examples of what a Princess of the King really looks like: beautiful and precious character, calm, confident in Christ, quiet, peaceful, and a humble servant ready and eager to act on behalf of others when necessary; with no regard for her personal comforts or preferences because she fully trusts her God to care for her every need. I. Issa Dept. of English & Translation, Jadara University, PO box 733, Irbid, Jordan Abstract This study is devoted to discuss the renditions of the prophets' names in the Holy Quran due to the authority of the religious text where they reappear, the significance of the figures who carry them, the fact that they exist in many languages, and the fact that the Holy Quran addresses all mankind. The data are drawn from two translations of the Holy Quran by Ali (1964), and Al-Hilali and Khan (1993). It examines the renditions of the twenty five prophets' names with reference to translation strategies in this respect, showing that Ali confused the conveyance of six names whereas Al-Hilali and Khan confused the conveyance of four names. Discussion has been raised thereupon to present the correct rendition according to English dictionaries and encyclopedias in addition to versions of the Bible which add a historical perspective to the study. Introduction In Prophets’ names comprise a significant part of people's names which in turn constitutes a main subdivision of proper nouns which include in addition to people's names the names of countries, places, months, days, holidays etc. In terms of translation, many translators opt for transliterating proper names thinking that transliteration is a straightforward process depending on an idea deeply rooted in many people's minds that proper nouns are never translated or that the translation of proper names is as Vermes (2003:17) states "a simple automatic process of transference from one language to another." Doctrine of Ishmael 1. Ishmael was the firstborn son of Abraham by Hagar, an Egyptian maid of his wife Sarah. Abraham was 86 at the time and had lived in Canaan for 11 years. 2. Sarah, the barren wife, in keeping with customs of her times as seen in the Babylonian law code of Hammurabi, gave her slave Hagar to Abraham to produce an heir for the family. 3. When Abraham was 99 God renewed His covenant with him and enjoined circumcision of Ishmael as a sign of his membership in the covenant community. 4. God also announced that He would fulfill the divine promise through his wife Sarah, although Abraham looked on Ishmael with deep affection and prayed that he might be the promised heir (Gen 17:18). Gen 17:18 And Abraham said unto God, O that Ishmael might live before thee! Gen 17:19 And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him. 5. When Ishmael was circumcised, Abraham and his household (those born to the men and women who had grown up in his employ and newcomers to the household through purchase from foreigners) were also circumcised. 5.1 Ishmael was 13 years old at the time of his circumcision. Many Arab tribes still circumcise their youths at the age of 13. 6. Fourteen years after the birth of Ishmael, Isaac was born to Sarah and Abraham. The jealousy that had long separated Sarah from Hagar came to a breaking point at the time of the weaning of Isaac. -

A. de Pury, Abraham. A New Look 1 Abraham, what kind of an ancestor is he ? A new look at Biblical traditions As we all know — be we Muslims, Christians, or Jews — Abraham is a much loved, much coveted, much invoked, and therefore perhaps disputed ancestor1. Our respective traditions are well known to us, even the traditions of the families of faith to which we do not belong. We know, for instance, that for Muslims2, Ibrahim (who says: aslamtu li-rabbi l-‘alamin (Sur 2,31)) is held to be the first Muslim in history, and that in Mecca the pilgrim is the guest of Ibrahim and Isma'il even more so than he is of Muhammad. Ibrahim is held in such high esteem, that in the medieval Bâb el Khalîl of Jerusalem, the gate that opens the road to Hebron, an Islamic inscription of the shahada allows the confession of Muhammad as the rasûl'Allah to be replaced by the words : ’ashhadu ’an Ibrahim khalîl-’allah3. We know that for the first Christians4 as well as for many Jewish proselytes, Abraham came to be the human father par excellence, the “father of faith” and the “father in faith” : having accepted the call of God, Abraham became the model of the convert, the model of the believer (l Macc 2,50-52; James 2,21-23), and, being himself justified by faith rather than by his own righteousness or obedience (Rom 4,1-5), Abraham becomes the “father” of all believers, whether they be his physical descendents or not, whether they follow or not the law of Moses, and even, at the limit, whether they be righteous or sinners. -
Lehi and the Arabs
Lehi and the Arabs Here we discuss Lehi’s personal contacts with the Arabs, as indicated by his family background and his association with Ishmael, whose descendants in the New World closely resemble the Ishmaelites (Bedouins) of the Old World. The names of Lehi and some of his sons are pure Arabic. The Book of Mormon depicts Lehi as a man of three worlds, and it has recently become generally recognized that the ancient Hebrews shared fully in the culture and traditions of the desert on the one hand and in the cultural heritage of Egypt on the other. Lehi’s ties with the Arabs are many and interesting. Since the only comprehensive study of this theme is a chapter of Lehi in the Desert, we can do no better in this lesson than to quote that chapter, with necessary alterations and additions. Signicance of Manasseh Now of all the tribes of Israel, Manasseh was the one which lived farthest out in the desert, came into the most frequent contact with the Arabs, intermarried with them most frequently, and at the same time had the closest traditional bonds with Egypt.1 The prominence of the name of Ammon in the Book of Mormon may have something to do with the fact that Ammon was Manasseh’s nearest neighbor and often fought him in the deserts east of Jordan; at the same time a prehistoric connection with the Ammon of Egypt is not at all out of the question. The seminomadic nature of Manasseh might explain why Lehi seems out of touch with things in Jerusalem.
