Trevor Pickering A word from our Mayor……Trevor Pickering Hi all in incredible Croydon At the last Council Meeting in May the Draft Croydon Shire Council Planning Scheme was adopted by Council and is now out for public consultation. Council has tried to make the plan as easy as possible for people to carry out development in Croydon, while still abiding by the law. We have been really lucky to have Judy Austin and Brett Nancarrow, who are planning professionals from the Department of State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning assisting us with our draft plan. Judy and Brett will be in Croydon on Friday 22nd and Saturday 23 June, and will set up in the Library so the community can ask questions and talk about the planning scheme. If you have any questions or concerns please call in and see them. This is your opportunity to provide valuable comments to make Croydon better for everyone. Council has decided to put their hand up to host the Institute of Public Works Engineering North Queensland Branch Conference in Croydon in 2020. Council has done this before in 2008 when Ron Diehm was the Works Manager and received loads of praise and congratulations on hosting such a memorable event that showed off Croydon. I am sure we can do it again in 2020. The Croydon Caravan Park Infrastructure Development project is coming along nicely. All the power and water installation is complete, roads are being constructed and a couple of new cabins will be here in early July. The increased capacity at the park will be a boost to the community and businesses – more people in town brings more money to everyone. Council has decided to fund a desexing clinic for dogs and cats in Croydon to try to help keep these animals under control. Tableland Vet Service will be coming to Croydon in June to do this. If you haven’t registered and you want to get your dog or cat desexed please ring Marnie at the Council Office so you don’t miss out. I'll wrap it up now, please remember if you need me for anything just ring, see you in the next tele. • Seasonal Climate Summary for the Southern Hemisphere (Autumn 2018): a Weak La Nin˜A Fades, the Austral Autumn Remains Warmer and Drier
CSIRO PUBLISHING Journal of Southern Hemisphere Earth Systems Science, 2020, 70, 328–352 Seasonal Climate Summary https://doi.org/10.1071/ES19039 Seasonal climate summary for the southern hemisphere (autumn 2018): a weak La Nin˜a fades, the austral autumn remains warmer and drier Bernard ChapmanA,B and Katie RosemondA,B ABureau of Meteorology, GPO Box 413, Brisbane, Qld 4001, Australia. BCorresponding authors. Email: [email protected]; [email protected] Abstract. This is a summary of the austral autumn 2018 atmospheric circulation patterns and meteorological indices for the southern hemisphere, including an exploration of the season’s rainfall and temperature for the Australian region. The weak La Nin˜a event during summer 2017–18 was in retreat as the southern hemisphere welcomed the austral autumn, and before midseason, it had faded. With the El Nin˜o Southern Oscillation and the Indian Ocean Dipole in neutral phases, their influence on the climate was weakened. Warmer than average sea surface temperatures dominated much of the subtropical South Pacific Ocean and provided favourable conditions for the formation of a rare subtropical cyclone over the southeast Pacific Ocean in May. The southern hemisphere sea ice extent was slightly below the autumn seasonal average. The southern hemisphere overall during autumn was drier and warmer than the seasonal average. The season brought warmer than average temperatures and average rains to parts of the continents of Africa and South America. Australia recorded its fourth-warmest autumn, partly due to an intense, extensive and persistent heatwave, which occurred during the midseason. An extraordinary and record-breaking rainfall event occurred over Tasmania’s southeast, under the influence of a negative Southern Annular Mode.

Flood Risk Discussion Paper Resource and Environment Working Group June 2019 Flood Risk An IAA Working Group Discussion Paper This discussion paper on Flood Risk (the paper) was prepared by the Resource and Environment Working Group (REWG) of the International Actuarial Association (IAA). The IAA is the worldwide association of professional actuarial associations, with several working groups and special interest sections for individual actuaries. The IAA exists to encourage the development of a global profession, acknowledged as technically competent and professionally reliable, which will ensure that the public interest is served. The role of the REWG is to identify issues related to global resources and the environment that are of interest to actuaries and to which the actuarial profession, at an international, national, or individual level, can make useful contributions in the public interest. The paper was prepared by a subgroup of the REWG consisting of Sam Gutterman, its leader, and Jacqueline Friedland, Stuart Mathewson, Rade Musulin, and Mike Smith. After careful review and constructive comment, the REWG and the Scientific Committee of the IAA approved the paper for publication.
