Principles and methods of simultaneous analysis in cladistics are reviewed, and the first, preliminary, analysis of combined molecular and morphological data on higher level relationships in Hymenoptera is presented to exemplify these principles. The morphological data from Ronquist et al. (in press) matrix, derived from the character diagnoses of the phylogenetic tree of Rasnitsyn (1988), are combined with new molecular data for representatives of 10 superfamilies of Hymenoptera by means of optimization alignment. The resulting cladogram supports Apocrita and Aculeata as groups, and the superfamly Chrysidoidea, but not Chalcidoidea, Evanioidea, Vespoidea and Apoidea. James M. Studies on a Collection of Aculeate Hymenoptera from Nayachar Island, West Bengal P
Studies on a collection of aculeate Hymenoptera from Nayachar Island, West Bengal P. Girish Kumar1 and Gaurav Sharma2 Aculeata is a subgroup of the order Hymenoptera whose significant peculiarity is the transformation of the female ovipositor into a venom-injecting device or stinger and the members of which are commonly called as ants, bees and wasps. They play an important role in the terrestrial ecosystems as pollinators, predators and producers. India has a rich fauna of Aculeata and Bingham (1897, 1903) was the first to publish a consolidated account of aculeate Hymenoptera (Wasps & Bees and Ants & Cuckoo wasps) of the region, including Burma and Ceylon. Batra (1977), Das Image 1. Vespa affinis (Linnaeus)♀ & Gupta (1989) and Gupta & Jonathan (2003) were also made comprehensive studies on Indian species of Apidae, Vespidae and Scoliidae respectively. The present account is based on a collection of Hymenoptera (Aculeata) obtained from Nayachar Island of West Bengal which includes the report of 8 species under 7 genera belonging to the families Vespidae (5 species), Scoliidae (2 species) and Apidae (1 species). Nayachar is an island located at the confluence of the Hooghly River and the Haldi River at the northern extent of the Bay of Image 2. Polistes (G.) olivaceus (De Geer)♀ Bengal in the East Midnapore district of West Bengal state of India. It is a small island with an area of 64 square kilometers located at 22°02' N 88°04' E coordinates and is believed to have accreted from alluvial derived sediment over the past 100 years. Material and Methods The specimens were collected from various localities of Nayachar Island during the period 1994-2000 by using sweep net specially made for the purpose. -

Munis Entomology & Zoology, 5 (2): 792-795] ABSTRACT: The present paper mentions 9 species and subspecies belonging to 4 genera of the family Scoliidae (Insecta: Hymenoptera). They were collected from different parts of Fars province in the south of Iran. Of these, Dasyscolia ciliata ciliata (Fabricius, 1787) is new to the fauna of Iran and Near East. Additionally 4 species were recorded for the first time from Fars province. Synonyms and distributional data for each species are included. KEY WORDS: Distribution, Fars, Fauna, Hymenoptera, Iran, Scoliidae. The family Scoliidae belongs to the superfamily Vespoidea and contains approximately about 560 valid species, 220 subspecies distributed among 43 valid genera, 28 subgenera and 2 subfamilies (Osten, 2005b). They are solitary insect; both male and female are winged. They tend to be black, often marked with yellow or orange, and their wing tips are distinctively corrugated. The larvae are ectoparasitoids of the grubs of Scarabaeidae (Esmaili & Rastegar, 1954; Osten, 2000; Osten et al., 2003). The faunistic and taxonomic papers treated the family in Iran have been conducted by Tkalcu (1987), Esmaili & Rastegar (1954), Chahartaghi Abineh (2002). The Scoliid fauna of West Palaearctic was monographed by Osten (2000), who also provided geographic distribution and keys, for all taxa. -

This subspecies has also recently been collected for the first time in Vanuatu during the 2006 Expédition Santo. The biology of this subspecies, its distribution in the Pacific and its potential as beneficial insect in French Polynesia and Vanuatu are briefly discussed. Résumé. – Les Aculéates de Polynésie française. II. Premier signalement de Micromeriella marginella modesta et nouvelle donnée du Vanuatu (Hymenoptera, Scoliidae, Campsomerini). Micromeriella marginella modesta (Smith, 1855) est signalée pour la première fois des îles de Tahiti et de Huahine (îles de la Société), ce qui représente également la première citation de Scoliidae pour la Polynésie française. Cette sous-espèce a aussi été récoltée pour la première fois au Vanuatu lors de l’expédition Santo 2006. La biologie de cette sous-espèce, sa distribution dans le Pacifique et le rôle d’auxiliaire potentiel qu’elle peut jouer en Polynésie française et au Vanuatu sont brièvement présentés. -

Gredleriana Vol. 7 / 2007 pp. 409 - 411 Ergänzungen zu den Dolchwespen Südtirols (Hymenoptera: Scoliidae) Wolfgang Schedl Abstract Additions to the dagger wasps of South Tyrol (Hymenoptera: Scoliidae) The present remarks deal with older or newer additions to the paper of 2006 about the dagger wasps of South Tyrol (Italy). Megascolia m. maculata, M. m. flavifrons, Scolia hirta and Scolia s. sexmaculata are dicussed. Remarkable is the record of Sc. hirta from 1680 m above sea level, at the Seiser Alm (South Tyrolean Dolomites) from 1968. In der faunistisch-ökologischen Zusammenschau über die Dolchwespen Südtirols des Verfassers aus dem Jahr 2006 fehlt der Hinweis auf die Arbeit von AICHINGER (1870), in der sehr alte Nachweise von zwei Arten genannt sind. Die in Klammern abgedruckten Abkürzungen beziehen sich auf damalige Sammler. Während aus den Reihen der Südtiroler Entomologen keine Reaktionen über alte oder rezente Fundnachweise an den Autor gerichtet wurden, bekam er ältere Daten von drei Korrespondenten des Ver- fassers, die hier eingebaut werden können. Es sind dies Dr. Manfred Kraus (Nürnberg), der die anerkannte Hymenopteren-Sammlung von Dr. Eduard Enslin (Fürth in Bayern, 1879 -1970) verwaltet, Prof. Dr. Alois Kofler (Lienz), Studiendirektor i. R. Heinrich Wolf (Plettenberg, BRD), dessen Sammlung aculeater Hymenopteren sich seit kurzem im Oberösterreichischen Landesmuseum in Linz (OÖLML) befindet, und von Herrn Rolf Parzer (Innsbruck). Necessary diagnosis of the recorded taxa is furnished. Keys to their tribes, genera and species are also provided. Family Scoliidae, one of the rare groups of wasps is known by 300 extant species only (Resh & Carde, 2004). This represents 1.21 % of the global vespoid fauna. Even though Indian scoliids has a history of 235 years, very few have worked on the group. It was Fabricius (1775) who first dealt with the Indian scoliids and Bingham (1897) was the first to provide a consolidated account of Scoliidae of the Indian subcontinent. This was followed by Betrem’s (1928) monograph on Indo-Australian Scoliidae. -

Dr. Argaman began his career in Hungary, publishing under the name Carol Nagy. He later moved to Romania and finally moved to Israel, where he assumed the name Qabir Argaman. In total, he published 84 articles on the order Hymenoptera and described 348 new taxa (2 families, 11 subfamilies, 58 tribes, 153 genera or subgenera, and 125 species or subspecies) in 15 families, as well as 1 new species of Scarabaeidae (Coleoptera). -

Amongst those Megascolia maculata maculata (Drury, 1773) is the most common subspecies. Key words: Hymenoptera, Scoliidae, fauna, Turkey Anahtar sözcükler: Hymenoptera, Scoliidae, fauna, Türkiye Introduction Scoliidae is a small, cosmopolitan family of aculeate wasps. They are a group of solitary habits which develop externally on the larvae of Scarabeoid beetles. Their large body is hairy, black with yellow, orange or red marking. Faunistic studies on the Scoliid wasps of Turkey have been conducted by Betrem (1935, 1961), Bradley (1950), Tkalcu (1987), Madl (1997) and Osten & Özbek (1999). Scoliids have been collected from the different parts of Turkey, but the data of which have not been published yet. They have been preserved in the collection of LEMT (Lodos Entomological Museum Turkey) of Department of Plant Protection, Faculty of Agriculture, Aegean University, Bornova, Izmir, Turkey. ١٤١٣ ﺁﺯﻣﺎﻳﺶ ﻓﺮﺩ ﻭ ﻫﻤﻜﺎﺭﺍﻥ: ﺑﺮﺭﺳﻲ ﺗﺎﻛﺴﻮﻧﻮﻣﻲ ﺯﻧﺒﻮﺭﻫﺎﻱ ﻗﺒﻴﻠﻪ (Scoliini (Hym.: Scoliidae ﺩﺭ ﺍﺳﺘﺎﻥ ﺗﻬﺮﺍﻥ ﻣﺠﻠﻪ ﻋﻠﻮﻡ ﻛﺸﺎﻭﺭﺯﻱ ﺍﻳﺮﺍﻥ ﺟﻠﺪ ٣٦، ﺷﻤﺎﺭﻩ ٦، ﺳﺎﻝ ١٣٨٤ (١٤١٩-١٤١٣) ﺑﺮﺭﺳﻲ ﺗﺎﻛﺴﻮﻧﻮﻣﻲ ﺯﻧﺒﻮﺭﻫﺎﻱ ﻗﺒﻴﻠﻪ (Scoliini (Hym.: Scoliidae ﺩﺭ ﺍﺳﺘﺎﻥ ﺗﻬﺮﺍﻥ ﭘﺮﻭﺍﻧﻪ ﺁﺯﻣﺎﻳﺶ ﻓﺮﺩ١، ﻣﻌﺼﻮﻣﻪ ﭼﻬﺎﺭﻃﺎﻗﻲ ﺁﺑﻴﻨﻪ٢ ، ﺍﺑﺮﺍﻫﻴﻢ ﺍﺑﺮﺍﻫﻴﻤﻲ٣ ﻭ ﺍﺣﻤﺪ ﻋﺎﺷﻮﺭﻱ٤ 1، 2، 4 ، داﻧﺸﯿﺎر، داﻧﺸﺠﻮی ﺳﺎﺑﻖ ﮐﺎرﺷﻨﺎﺳﯽ ارﺷﺪ و اﺳﺘﺎدﯾﺎر ﭘﺮدﯾﺲ ﮐﺸﺎورزی و ﻣﻨﺎﺑﻊ ﻃﺒﯿﻌﯽ، داﻧﺸﮕﺎه ﺗﻬﺮان 3 ،اﺳﺘﺎدﯾﺎر ﭘﮋوﻫﺸﯽ ﻣﺆﺳﺴﻪ ﺗﺤﻘﯿﻘﺎت آﻓﺎت و ﺑﯿﻤﺎرﯾﻬﺎی ﮔﯿﺎﻫﯽ ﺗﺎرﯾﺦ ﭘﺬﯾﺮش ﻣﻘﺎﻟﻪ 83/7/8 ﺧﻼﺻﻪ زﻧﺒﻮرﻫﺎی ﺧﺎﻧﻮاده Scoliidae ﺑﻪ ﻋﻨﻮان ﭘﺎرازﯾﺘﻮﺋﯿﺪﻫﺎی ﻻروﻫﺎی ﺳﺨﺖ ﺑﺎﻟﭙﻮﺷﺎن ﺑﺨﺼﻮص ﺳﻮﺳﮏ ﻫﺎی ﺧﺎﻧﻮاده Scarabaeidae و ﺑﻌﻀﯽ از ﮔﻮﻧﻪ ﻫﺎی ﺧﺎﻧﻮاده Curculionidae ﻣﯽﺑﺎﺷﻨﺪ. ﺑﻪ ﻣﻨﻈﻮر ﺑﺮرﺳﯽ رده ﺑﻨﺪی ﺧﺎﻧﻮاده Scoliidae اﻗﺪام ﺑﻪ ﺟﻤﻊ آوری اﯾﻦ ﺣﺸﺮات ﻃﯽ ﺳﺎل ﻫﺎی 1378-1380 ﮔﺮدﯾﺪ و ﻋﻼوه ﺑﺮ اﯾﻦ ﻧﻤﻮﻧﻪ ﻫﺎی ﮐﻠﮑﺴﯿﻮن ﺑﺨﺶ ﺣﺸﺮه ﺷﻨﺎﺳﯽ ﮐﺸﺎورزی داﻧﺸﮑﺪه ﮐﺸﺎورزی داﻧﺸﮕﺎه ﺗﻬﺮان و ﺑﺨﺶ ﺗﺤﻘﯿﻘﺎت رده ﺑﻨﺪی ﺣﺸﺮات ﻣﺆﺳﺴﻪ ﺑﺮرﺳﯽ آﻓﺎت و ﺑﯿﻤﺎری ﻫﺎی ﮔﯿﺎﻫﯽ ﮐﻪ ﻗﺒﻼً ﺟﻤﻊ آوری ﺷﺪه ﺑﻮدﻧﺪ ﻧﯿﺰ ﻣﻮرد ﺑﺮرﺳﯽ ﻗﺮار ﮔﺮﻓﺖ . ﺑﺎ ﺑﺮرﺳﯽﻫﺎی ﻣﯿﮑﺮوﺳﮑﭙﯽ و ﻣﺎﮐﺮوﺳﮑﭙﯽ از ﺑﺎل، ﻗﻔﺲ ﺳﯿﻨﻪ، ﺷﮑﻢ و آﻟﺖ زاد آوری ﻧﻤﻮﻧﻪ ﻫﺎی ﻧﺮ و ﺑﺎ اﺳﺘﻔﺎده از ﮐﻠﯿﺪﻫﺎی ﻣﻌﺘﺒﺮدﻧﯿﺎ و ﺗ ﺄﯾﯿﺪ ﻧﺎم ﻋﻠﻤﯽ ﮔﻮﻧﻪ ﻫﺎ و زﯾﺮ ﮔﻮﻧﻪ ﻫﺎ ﺗﻮﺳﻂ ﻣﺘﺨﺼﺼﯿﻦ ﻣﺠﻤﻮﻋﺎً 7 ﮔﻮﻧﻪ و زﯾﺮﮔﻮﻧﻪ از ﺟﻨﺲ Scolia F. 1775 ﺑﻪ ﺷﺮح زﯾﺮ ﺑﺮای اوﻟﯿﻦ ﺑﺎر از اﯾﺮان ﮔﺰارش ﺷﺪه اﺳﺖ: Scolia (Scolia) fallax Eversmann, 1849 Scolia (Scolia) galbula (Pallas, 1771) Scolia (Scolia) sexmaculata orientalis (Steinberg, 1962) Scolia (Scolia) luciformis Scopoli, 1786 Scolia (Scolia) flaviceps flaviceps, Eversmann, 1846 Scolia (Scolia) flaviceps mangichlakensis (Radoskovsk, 1879) Scolia (Scolia) tukestanica Betrem, 1935 ﻭﺍﮊﻩﻫﺎﻱ ﻛﻠﻴﺪﻱ: ﺟﻨﺲ Scolia، آﻟﺖ زادآوری، Megascolia، ﻣﺮﻓﻮﻟﻮژی، زﻧﺒﻮرﻫﺎی ﭘﺎرازﯾﺘﻮﺋﯿﺪ.
