Rudyard Kipling dans Kim Ecrire à propos de la vie et de l’époque de Sri Sathya Sai Baba, c’est accepter une tâche apparemment impossible. Comment peut-on exprimer son statut divin sans inviter l’incrédulité ? Si elle est écrite entièrement pour des non croyants, l’histoire restera à moitié dite. Et il n’est pas non plus correct de ramener des faits vérifiés de nature apparemment miraculeuse à un catalogue de rationalisations neutres. Comme W.H. Murray, le mystique alpiniste le dit : ‘’Le but n’est pas d’abroger la raison, mais de l’élever. Un chameau ne peut pas passer dans le chas d’une aiguille, mais la vision le peut.’’ Murray recommande l’art alchimique de l’unification pour nous aider à traverser l’espace apparemment infranchissable entre notre monde et le royaume de l’Esprit, harmonisant par là les leçons de la tête et les enseignements du cœur. La seule façon dont un étudiant itinérant en religion (par opposition à un dévot Sai) peut expliquer le phénomène Sai est de recourir à son agenda de voyage dans lequel, pendant trois semaines chaque hiver sur une période d’une douzaine d’années, il rapporta les merveilles cachées de la topographie du Deccan et sa riche théologie. L’auteur, pour emprunter un commentaire de Thomas Carlyle à propos du poète Robert Burns, ‘’dit ce qu’il y a en lui, non par besoin externe de vanité, mais parce que son cœur est trop plein pour rester silencieux’’. Cette enquête historique et théologique, tout en cherchant à percer le halo qui entoure Sathya Sai Baba et Shirdi Sai Baba, n’exprime pas vraiment d’opinions pour ou contre les associations fabuleuses qui sont apparues autour de leurs noms. Ce qu’elle tente, puisque les étudiants sérieux de l’opération de la grâce veulent de la substance qu’ils peuvent (suivant les paroles de Sathya Sai Baba) ‘’observer, étudier et peser’’, c’est une étude de sa source énigmatique et des détails de son fonctionnement sur un bénéficiaire qui peut témoigner de son impact. Si, ici ou là, cela a conduit à une digression dans des explications sur la manière dont un Ecossais itinérant est tombé amoureux du Deccan et de sa lignée de modèles extraordinaires de grâce spirituelle, je m’en excuse à l’avance. Il me faut remercier Shalini Sreenivas pour avoir suggéré que ce livre soit écrit et pour avoir offert des documents et des encouragements pour permettre son achèvement. David Davidar de chez Penguin a régulièrement apporté son soutien aux intérêts non conventionnels de l’auteur, tandis qu’à Karthika est revenue la tâche astreignante de débroussailler et d’ajouter de la clarté à cette excursion numineuse. A Himanshu Bhagat, je suis redevable de sa vision d’ensemble détachée d’un terrain difficile à sonder et à Shantanu Ray Choudhary de ses intuitions correctives inestimables. Ma 4 principale inspiration a été l’amour infini que Rani Ma ressent pour son guru, Sri Sathya Sai. Ce livre est offert avec révérence à la source de cet amour. Mussoorie, Avril 2004 5 CHAPITRE 1 : UN MOYEN DE GRÂCE IL existe des douzaines de marques de religion, mais un seul Esprit qui les imprègne toutes. Celui qui colporte la proposition qu’une marque est meilleure qu’une autre implique qu’il les a essayées toutes, ce qui le rendrait omniscient ou plus probablement que c’est un vendeur qui tente de faire passer son bluff pour de la certitude. L’étudiant en religion apprend à se méfier face à de telles prétentions, faisant confiance à sa propre expérience de l’Esprit, quelle que puisse être sa modestie. Spécialement dans un récit de phénomènes concernant Sai Baba, il est important d’insister sur l’importance du contenu par rapport à la forme, dès le départ. Les deux maîtres, Shirdi Sai et Sathya Sai, insistent sur le besoin de dépasser les étiquettes extérieures et de goûter l’Esprit intérieur. Tandis que la religion évoque principalement une croyance publique passive transmise de manière systématique, la conscience de l’Esprit qui imprègne la religion exige une réponse individuelle plus profonde à la réalité du divin. La première s’apprend par l’endoctrinement de l’esprit, la deuxième s’expérimente spontanément dans le cœur. Le groupe de ceux qui suivent Sai Baba et qui semble comprendre un mouvement religieux est plus une foi qui se meut dans l’Esprit, un rassemblement d’individus convaincus qu’ils ont un lien émotionnel direct avec leur Maître élu. Cette expérience ne se limite pas à des âmes extrasensibles (ce que le monde appelle des ‘’mystiques’’, mais elle est vécue par des gens ordinaires qui répondent à la présence de l’une des figures de Sai Baba avec un cœur rempli d’amour. Et l’essence de l’amour, c’est de partager. Lorsqu’on m’a demandé d’écrire à propos de la vie et de l’époque du saint en évitant les excès hagiographiques auxquels les croyants trouvent difficiles de ne pas céder et qui dégoûtent le chercheur ordinaire qui veut de l’information et non de l’exagération, je fus d’accord d’essayer. Ce que Sai Baba éveille en moi, c’est un sentiment si merveilleux que je suis persuadé que chacun dans le monde voudrait l’expérimenter. Malheureusement, les talents de guérison de Sathya Sai ont été occultés par la mauvaise presse qui traque tous ceux qui revendiquent la connaissance de ce qui est saint. Beaucoup de personnes qui auraient pu être aidées dans leur quête de la santé et de la complétude ont choisi de se fier aux comptes- rendus des médias plutôt qu’à la sagesse de leur propre instinct. Cet essai biographique vise à chasser les doutes de ces âmes hésitantes. Initialement, j’étais peu enthousiaste à m’attaquer à cette tâche, parce que la religion en Inde est une question délicate aujourd’hui, spécialement quand elle est traitée par quelqu’un qui est né en dehors du sous-continent. Je ne connais pas non plus le télougou, la langue maternelle de Sathya Sai, bien que je trouve que de toutes les langues indiennes, ce soit la plus plaisante à l’oreille. Quand il me fut indiqué que même le biographe reconnu de Sathya Sai Baba, le Prof. Kasturi, connaissait mal le télougou et qu’il avait, lors d’une occasion mémorable, vêtu une assemblée d’anciens rishis de sahariennes modernes, je pris courage. De toute façon, la grâce que Sathya Sai incarne ne peut s’exprimer que dans la langue du cœur et celle-ci est universelle. 6 Après avoir écrit presque une douzaine de livres de voyage, il m’apparut que la muse avait fini par admettre le craquement de mes vieux os (ainsi qu’une machine à écrire hostile à tout progrès technologique), de sorte que la seule option qu’il me restait était le voyage intérieur. L’inspiration nécessaire (et le matériel informatique) provinrent d’une ancienne étudiante et maintenant instrument de Sai Baba, dont la confiance et l’énergie sont tellement impressionnantes qu’elles ne peuvent trouver leur origine que dans ce centre énergétique qu’est Puttaparthi. Toutes mes réserves et toutes mes hésitations furent annulées par la promesse que Sathya Sai interviendrait d’une manière ou l’autre pour accélérer le projet. A l’encontre de l’inertie que la vieillesse estime avoir mérité, je fus encouragé à explorer la magie de l’informatique et à découvrir à quel point le phénomène Sai est contemporain. L’étude initiale des écrits concernant Sai Baba s’avéra fastidieuse jusqu’à ce que des anecdotes partagées par cette même dame leur donne la vie. Ce qui débuta comme une corvée devint une fascination authentique et j’en vins lentement à comprendre que je n’écrivais pas réellement un livre sur Sai. Au lieu de cela, quelque chose en moi se trouvait incité à écrire à propos d’une réalité que la vie des deux Sai reflétait et ceci me faisait subtilement comprendre que cette étude était un moyen de grâce par lequel ma propre âme pouvait approcher de la réalisation de Sai. Malgré le fait que Shirdi et Sathya Sai appartiennent en apparence à des fois différentes et à des époques très différentes, le fait qu’ils soient tous les deux nés dans le Deccan – Shirdi dans le nord où l’on parle le marathi et Puttaparthi dans le sud où parle le télougou – peut être vu comme symbolique de l’unité sous-jacente à leur être et du processus d’unification qu’ils incarnaient dans leurs vies.

    CHAITANYA JYOTI MUSEUM INTRODUCTION: Chaitanya Jyoti Museum was built to commemorate the 75th Birthday of Sri Sathya Sai Baba, the Avatar of the Yuga ( the Era). Flanked by rocky hillside and verdant greenery with tall trees, Chaitanya Jyoti appears to visitors like something out of the pages of a fairy tale. Its grandeur and originality is stunning. The purpose of Chaitanya Jyoti is not merely to provide a narration of the life of the Avatar of the Age, but also to bring out the purpose of his advent and how Humanity has benefited and will continue to benefit by His advent in years to come. It was a project sponsored by overseas devotees and conceived, developed and presented under the leadership of Sri Indulal Shah, the then International Chairman Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation world wide. The building houses an exhibition on Baba's Life and Mission, which would inspire, motivate and encourage devotees to follow His teachings and put them into practice. A level site of 65m frontage and 60m depth and 4m above road level had to be created out of a sloping hillside. To achieve this, entailed 3 to 4m of filling of one third of the area and removal of 5000 m3 of rock from the remaining area. The building is 27m higher than the road level, with a covered area of 6000 m2. The architect, Goy Say Tong of Malaysia, designed a unique structure with a fusion of many cultures and architectural styles. The dominant architectural feature is a roof similar to that of a Chinese Emperor's Palace, flanked by two Moorish domes made of Titanium, crowning the semicircular ends which are adorned with Gothic arches and two lift shafts with Japanese style roofs.

    Yoga and Shamanism By Reva I wanted to share with you some of my thoughts about yoga and shamanism, both of which have played and continue to play a significant role in my life. Although on the surface they may look like they are very different spiritual traditions, in my experience I have found that there are many connections and similarities, some of which I have discussed here. Like yoga, shamanism is an ancient tradition. There are different paths and lineages but generally a shamanic practitioner works in partnership with Spirit teachers or guides to bring healing to an individual, a place or community. Different tools are used to shift consciousness so that we can step between the veil that separates this reality, ordinary consciousness, and non-ordinary reality where what may not usually be seen or known comes into our awareness. Both traditions stretch us beyond our comfort zone, supporting us to move more into our authentic self so that we can live our soul’s purpose. Origins Yoga and shamanism are two spiritual traditions that both bring about balance, harmony and wellbeing. Archaeological evidence points to shamanism being 30,000 years old and yoga was first linked to the Vedas approximately 10,000 years ago. It is likely that yoga was born out of shamanism, but of course it is difficult to know this with certainty. Both traditions pre-date any notion of religion and offered our ancestors a methodology to feel connected to, and in the flow with existence; to feel fully alive. Evidence points to shamanism originating simultaneously across different cultures, whereas yoga originated in India and then spread to other continents when yoga teachers began to travel.

We should perhaps start by familiarising our selves with the range of available techniques, and choose a few that would seem to be suited to our needs. So here we will go to ‘Sitemap’ at tab No 6 along the bottom of the screen, and click on “Treatments & Techniques”. Depending on what you choose, you will either see ‘Treatments’ or Techniques’. In either case you will be able to explore & see what is available within Sahaja Yoga. We would suggest that a start be made with the following: ‘Raise Kundalini’; ‘Bandhan’; ‘Footsoaking’; ‘Meditation’; and then depending on what you find, you could move to ‘Raising Left side;’ or ‘Raising Right side’; to get into balance. Here again we might remind ourselves of what we learned in the “L & R Balancing”’ topic that we saw earlier. Then also we might look for ‘Lemons & Chillies’ and also ‘Limes’. Then again, depending on what we find, we can progress to other techniques. But beware of one thing! It is at the foot of this mountain that has been built the Annamalaiyar temple, one of the biggest Sivaite´ temple in the south of India, possibly during the 7th century. That is why this place hosts millions and millions of pilgrims since many centuries. In between the contemporary one of the most famous is Ramana Maharshi. He was attracted in very young age by the place and remained the whole of his life in this location, and his presence is still inhabiting and feeding his Ashram. Another worth mentioning is Yogi Ramsuratkumar and his large quantity of siddhis:oneexampleishavingspentthelast40yearsofhislifewithout washing himself! Henri Le Saux, a christian mystic monk known as well under the name of Swami Abhishktananda2 recognized in this mountain Jesus Christ’s profile. I met in Arunachala a lot of people that were called to come by this place; many Indians coming from di↵erent regions as well as a lot of foreigners: americans, asians, europeans... Myself as well was blessed by being called by Arunachala Siva´ ... IhadseenonceRamana’spictureshowntomebyafriend,butitdid’ntkeepmy attention, one more Indian Saint... Summer 2017 during a yoga retreat in Charente the image of Ramana invites itself into my mind from the first day, and continue to manifest regularly.
