The downtown city streets of Rock Island become a professional race course each year on Labor Day weekend. Joey Hand Joey Hand won at Rock Island in 1996. Tom Kutscher Superkarts! USA Quad-Cities: A karting hotbed The Quad-Cities is a hotbed of kart racing with three local tracks and the Grand Prix has certainly contributed to that. Four of the race’s Top 10 drivers in Rock Island wins are from this area including Tony Neilson from Delmar, Iowa, with 17 wins in second place all time behind Gary Lawson from Ohio with 25. Other Top 10 locals are Tim Goettsch, Michael Dittmer and Mike Welsh.

My dad took me to the go kart track when I was 7 and I saw other little boys doing it and wanted to try. I raced karts from age 7 to 18 when I left to start doing this. I learned a lot from that.
