These insects can cause impressive economic and ecological damage in the invaded environment. Thus, several countries use traps baited with pheromones and plant volatiles at ports of entry and surrounding natural areas to intercept incoming exotic species soon after their arrival and thereby reduce the likelihood of their establishment. In this study, we investigated the performance of eight trap colors in attracting jewel beetles and bark and ambrosia beetles to test if the trap colors currently used in survey programs worldwide are the most efficient for trapping these potential forest pests. In addition, we tested whether trap colors can be exploited to minimize inadvertent removal of their natural enemies. -

Current State of Knowledge on Wolbachia Infection Among Coleoptera: a Systematic Review
Current state of knowledge on Wolbachia infection among Coleoptera: a systematic review Łukasz Kajtoch1 and Nela Kotásková2 1 Institute of Systematics and Evolution of Animals Polish Academy of Sciences, Krakow, Poland 2 Faculty of Science, University of Ostrava, Ostrava, Czech Republic ABSTRACT Background. Despite great progress in studies on Wolbachia infection in insects, the knowledge about its relations with beetle species, populations and individuals, and the effects of bacteria on these hosts, is still unsatisfactory. In this review we summarize the current state of knowledge about Wolbachia occurrence and interactions with Coleopteran hosts. Methods. An intensive search of the available literature resulted in the selection of 86 publications that describe the relevant details about Wolbachia presence among beetles. These publications were then examined with respect to the distribution and taxonomy of infected hosts and diversity of Wolbachia found in beetles. Sequences of Wolbachia genes (16S rDNA, ftsZ) were used for the phylogenetic analyses. Results. The collected publications revealed that Wolbachia has been confirmed in 204 beetle species and that the estimated average prevalence of this bacteria across beetle species is 38.3% and varies greatly across families and genera (0–88% infected members) and is much lower (c. 13%) in geographic studies. The majority of the examined and infected beetles were from Europe and East Asia. The most intensively studied have been two groups of herbivorous beetles: Curculionidae and Chrysomelidae. Coleoptera harbor Wolbachia belonging to three supergroups: F found in only three species, and A and B found in similar numbers of beetles (including some doubly infected); however Submitted 14 November 2017 the latter two were most prevalent in different families. -
Cypress Borer (Lamprodila Festiva), a New Urban Pest in Hungary

Thuja orientalis), are stressed by dry and hot summers of last seasons. Then these weak, vulnerable trees were injured by secondary pests. During investigations in June 2013 and January 2014 at the Central Conifer Collection of Corvinus University Budapest, the highest injuries of the cypress borer (Lamprodila festiva) were detected on Thuja occidentalis cultivars ‘Asplenifolia’, ‘Bodmeri’, ‘Recurva Nana’, ‘Rheingold’, ‘Smaragd’, Platycladus orientalis ‘Juniperoides’, while the other cultivars, especially the columnar T. o. ‘Henezia’ and ‘Fastigiata’, the yellow-leaved T. o. ‘Yellow Ribbon’ and ‘Sunkist’, the globular cultivars, and practically all the T. plicata and the remaining Platycladus orientalis cultivars proved to be saved (yet) by the borer. (Total number of inspected Thuja and Platycladus cultivars was 108). From the genus Chamaecyparis (altogether 69 cultivars) only some juvenile forms, wile from the genus Juniperus (altogether 218 cultivars) Juniperus scopolorum ’Skyrocket’ were injured. Abstract: The new adventive species Lamprodila (Palmar) festiva (Linné, 1767) is first recorded from Slovakia from both, urban and natural habitats. The work provides exact geographical records, data on biology and host plants. All data are supported by numerous illustrations. The distribution on the territory of capital Bratislava is mapped. The paper is complemented by compilation of biological and distributional data from many other publications. In Slovakia, Lamprodila festiva is frequently found along with longhorn beetle Semanotus russicus (Fabricius, 1776), which is protected in Slovakia and was known to date only from a few sites. Key words: Lamprodila festiva, Coleoptera, Buprestidae, faunistics, Slovakia INTRODUCTION The climate change and global trading triggered massive environmental changes because of presenting great opportunity for invasive or adventive species to occupy new territories. Trees (mostly in urban areas) stressed by high temperatures or drought are getting very sensitive to new insect pests. In recent years, jewel beetles from the family Buprestidae are notoriously known for vigorous invasive potential and destructive efficiency. -

This is a monophagous species whose larvae develop under bark of branches and trunks of elms, preferably well insolated. It was recently found on the Wiekopolsko-Kujawska Lowland, in Krajkowo near Poznan - hitherto the only locality in Poland and the northernmost in Europe. Species of the genus Lamprodila were often placed in the genera: Lampra, Ovalisia, Palmar and Scintillatrix (Zykov 1999). The taxa occurring in Poland - Lamprodila decipiens decipiens (Gebler, 1847), Lamprodila mirifica mirifica (Mulsant, 1855) and Lamprodila rutilans rutilans (Fabricius, 1777) - belong to the subgenus Lamprodila. -

En fournissant un logement, une protection et une source de nourriture pour de nombreux organismes, les végétaux représentent un élément essentiel des écosystèmes terrestres dans lesquels ils permettent la rencontre d’organismes aussi différents que des champignons pathogènes et des insectes phytophages. Les relations triangulaires qui naissent de cette proximité peuvent être directes ou indirectes lorsque la plante hôte joue le rôle de médiateur. Les insectes peuvent se nourrir du champignon ou de l’une de ses parties, comme le mycélium ou les structures reproductrices, et de ce fait réduire l’ampleur de l’infection ou de la transmission de la maladie. En revanche, d’autres espèces sont susceptibles de véhiculer des spores infectieuses et d’inoculer de nouvelles plantes. Ici, les champignons et les insectes s’influencent directement, positivement ou négativement, mais leurs relations deviennent indirectes lorsqu’ils engendrent des perturbations chez leur hôte. Une attaque fongique est susceptible de produire des changements dans la qualité de la plante hôte, mais aussi d’y activer des résistances qui peuvent également agir sur les insectes, grâce à des mécanismes de défenses croisés. -
