Junior Commodore Prize Night Speech

Hi everyone, for those who don’t know me my name is Lilly. This season has been amazing! We have had so many new juniors come out to try sailing and have then gone on to sailing more regularly at the club. We have had so many new volunteers to help out coaching too, which is amazing for the club’s reputation as well. Thank you to all the coaches, start boat crew for the afternoon races, rescue and so many others too. Thank you from all the juniors to the volunteers that gave up their time each and every week to come out and help us train in the morning. These coaches include:

Rumour has it that several Brighton skippers are very interested in the Shark sail and a couple may have already placed orders with the WA supplier.

From what we’ve seen so far the full length batten Mylar material Shark sails, which are larger in area (by .82 sq metre) than a legal Sabre sail and look somewhat like an NS14 , undoubtedly make a Sabre go quicker and point higher compared to the red- tip sail although we have yet to see the sail used locally in a big SW breeze of over 18 knots and more.

The Shark type sail is definitely gaining some traction - it has taken over in WA (in January the Shark class conducted their own State Championships) and apparently there are significant numbers of Shark sails
