Historical Note

The School Librarians of the Indiana State Teacher's Association were organized at a luncheon held at , on Thursday, October 18, 1928. Sylvia Oakley, pro tem secretary, took the minutes of the first meeting. They held annual meetings in October. Their last recorded meeting was October 26, 1939.

Scope and Contents

This ledger book has entries written in ink at the annual meetings held in October from 1928-1939.The secretary recorded not only the business conducted but also information about the meeting place. At the first meeting in 1928, Sylvia Oakley wrote: "The Propylaeum was a charming place for the luncheon ... The food was delicious and the tables lovely with the glow of yellow candles and yellow pompoms which may have aided the mellow mood of those present. Friendly visiting and exchange of ideas was enjoyed while the luncheon was eaten." At the 1929 meeting, fifty-four librarians visited "the beautiful Charity Dye library of the new ." They discussed reading lists and the care of magazines. In 1932, they met at the Cropsy Auditorium of the Indianapolis Public Library. At the final meeting recorded in this bound blank book, on October 26, 1939, there were 126 librarians who paid their annual dues of 25 cents,
