HYLAS 44 LEAVES DRUMRIGHT

On August 10,2009, Debbie and Jerry Brichacek’s Hylas 44 foot sailboat was rolled out of the shop on their ranch outside of Drumright. There was a 100 ton crane set up and waiting to lift the sailboat from it cradle and set it on a low boy truck for a trip south to Kemah, TX. Nine months ago the boat made the reverse trip from Kemah to Drumright and into the shop where Jerry, Debbie and many others with all kinds of skills transformed the boat from one that had gone through a hurricane surge and landed on it’s side in a parking lot about a block from it’s slip to a boat that looked and was equipped better than it was new off the show room floor. As the boat was lifted by the crane, the truck driver asked the crane operator how much weight he was lifting. He looked down at the gage and told him he had 30,000 tons in the air. It all went slowly and surely as the crane operator made sure everything was going well and the truck driver made sure the boat was made fast to the truck for the long trip to Kemah. From start to finish the whole process took about 7 hours. The boat left Drumright about 4:30pm that afternoon and final - ly got down to Kemah and in the water on Wednesday, August 12, 2009. Now that the boat is in the water, and in the same yacht club as it was during the hurricane, the final touches are being done to get new electronics hooked up, the mast inspected and updated before it is set and a series of motor and sailing in and around Galveston Bay to make sure the boat is ready for open water. Debbie and Jerry are hoping to leave sometime at the end of the year to meet up with friends that are cruising in and around the East coast. Once they meet up they can plan their next journey as they visit islands and enjoy sailing where the wind takes them. Windword Page 5

2008 FLEET CAPTAINS C O M M O D O R E ’ S R E P O R T For the second month in a row Windycrest has said good by to one of its long Keelboat Racing Fleet time members. Francis Rowland was always happy and lifted the spirits of Terry Rainey everyone. I will miss receiving the little box with a candy kiss inside that Francis 369-5493 gave out at the club events. [email protected] The MS Regatta was a big success. When we arrived at the lake it looked as if we were in for a day of no wind and rain. However, the weather ended up co Keelboat Cruising Fleet operating, giving us a very nice day after all. Congratulations to Drew Ziegler the Richard Bunn overall winner, and to the winners in all the different categories. Everyone who 252-1305 sailed and gave their time to help raise money for MS is a champion. The [email protected] Regatta raised more money this year than in any of the previous years. Richard Ferguson has posted some great pictures of the event on the Windycrest Web MC Scow site. Thank you Richard. Matt Gillis Ray Adams, chairman for the Close/MS Regatta 2009 passed the torch to 918-557-6256 Mary Snider who will chair the MS Committee and Regatta next year. [email protected] September 17 - 19 Windycrest Sailing Club will host the National MC Scow Regatta. Centerboard Racing Fleet There will be lots of top sailors from all over the United States competing in Darrel Daniel the event. So, if you have some time, come out and watch the races. 865-2719 Fall may be just around the corner but there is still a lot of activity at [email protected] Windycrest. The Sunday races will continue until November and we have Catalina 22 Oktoberfest and the Turkey Fry to look forward to. Doug Lewis We still have a couple of months of excellent sailing weather ahead. So come 694-9044 out to the club and SAIL. Jo Ann Chandler [email protected] Commodore Thistle Fred Morgan 245-6419 ACTIVITIES CAPTAIN’S REPORT [email protected] I really hope everyone has or will set aside December 12 on their calendars for the annual Windycrest Winter Holiday Party. We will also have their popular Bruschetta C27/25 appetizer, a house salad, and a decadent dessert especially chosen by the chef. Cost is $5 for adults and $2 for children 10 and under.

For those that have never been or who have never eaten a fried turkey, you are in for a big treat and a surprise. The turkey is far from being greasy and will be the most moist, flavorful turkey you have ever eaten. We will have the Cajun Turkey for those enjoying a little spice or we will have a turkey with herbs for those that do not.

Your reservation will include the turkey and beverages. Everyone attending should bring their favorite Thanksgiving dish or dessert to share with all.

From years past the turkey was as good as it always is but the shared dishes everyone brings will blow you away with the variety and great tasting side dishes and dessert that members bring to go with the turkey.

We fry turkeys rain or shine, cool or hot. The turkeys must be purchased, thawed and injected either with the Cajun spices or herbs and readied for frying several days before the event so reservations are very important!

The turkeys will start frying about 1pm on November 7th and we will continue frying until we have enough to feed everyone that has reservations. If you want to learn/see how we fry the turkeys, came out early because about 4:30 pm or shortly thereafter we should have all turkeys fried and cut up so we can start at 5:00pm sharp!

For reservations (RSVP) call or email to: (leave names for name tags)
