There was a 100 ton crane set up and waiting to lift the sailboat from it cradle and set it on a low boy truck for a trip south to Kemah, TX. Nine months ago the boat made the reverse trip from Kemah to Drumright and into the shop where Jerry, Debbie and many others with all kinds of skills transformed the boat from one that had gone through a hurricane surge and landed on it’s side in a parking lot about a block from it’s slip to a boat that looked and was equipped better than it was new off the show room floor. As the boat was lifted by the crane, the truck driver asked the crane operator how much weight he was lifting. He looked down at the gage and told him he had 30,000 tons in the air. It all went slowly and surely as the crane operator made sure everything was going well and the truck driver made sure the boat was made fast to the truck for the long trip to Kemah. From start to finish the whole process took about 7 hours. The boat left Drumright about 4:30pm that afternoon and final - ly got down to Kemah and in the water on Wednesday, August 12, 2009. Now that the boat is in the water, and in the same yacht club as it was during the hurricane, the final touches are being done to get new electronics hooked up, the mast inspected and updated before it is set and a series of motor and sailing in and around Galveston Bay to make sure the boat is ready for open water. Debbie and Jerry are hoping to leave sometime at the end of the year to meet up with friends that are cruising in and around the East coast. Once they meet up they can plan their next journey as they visit islands and enjoy sailing where the wind takes them. Windword Page 5 2008 FLEET CAPTAINS C O M M O D O R E ’ S R E P O R T For the second month in a row Windycrest has said good by to one of its long Keelboat Racing Fleet time members. Francis Rowland was always happy and lifted the spirits of Terry Rainey everyone. I will miss receiving the little box with a candy kiss inside that Francis 369-5493 gave out at the club events. [email protected] The MS Regatta was a big success. When we arrived at the lake it looked as if we were in for a day of no wind and rain.
