presents Sons of Italy 32nd Annual Gala March 10th, 2018 RBC CONVENTION CENTRE PORT OF UP S IN Liberty • Equality • Fraternity Congratulations to Seven Oaks General Hospital Foundation greetings Order Sons of Italy - Garibaldi Lodge President Tom De Nardi Honoured guests, ladies and gentlemen, on behalf of Sons of Italy, Garibaldi Lodge and The Canadian Italian Business and Professionals Association (CIBPA), I would like to sincerely thank you for attending this year’s 32nd Annual Gala in support of the “Seven Oaks General Hospital Foundation and The Chronic Disease Innovation Centre”. For the past 31 years the Garibaldi Lodge along with its sisters, La Lupa di Roma, have been funding and promoting Italian culture and language throughout Manitoba. Our members not only support the rich Italian Community but greater Manitoba; medical research, hospitals, education, inner-city poverty, food banks and immigrants are just some of the areas our organization has made a difference. In the past year alone, our dynamic organization has been able to contribute over $200,000 to several deserving and needy causes; Holy Rosary Parish and its inner-city “Outreach Project”, funding of specialized equipment for the Health Sciences Centre, as well as, multiple “Oak Table” lunches feeding the homeless and our annual Sons of Italy ‘Christmas Eve Feast’ for new immigrants. Each year CIBPA takes great pride in recognizing the entrepreneurial or professional accomplishments of one deserving individual. This year we are honoured to add Dr. Rayleen De Luca, C.M., O.M., professor and former department head of Clinical Psychology at the University of Manitoba, to that list. “Congratulations, Dr. De Luca!” In closing, I would like to thank all our members who have entrusted me with the President’s office, a duty I could not hope to fulfill without the hard work and commitment of our board. Congratulazioni! The continued hard work of these dedicated men has had a profound impact on our Italian and Manitoba community at large. Bravo, Brothers. La Lupa di Roma Lodge is a sisterhood of women that enthusiastically plan events and raise funds to donate to worthy charitable organizations in Manitoba. Passionate about giving back to our community, over the years we have donated funds and provided service to worthwhile causes, such as Rossbrook House, MADD, Jocelyn House, Variety Children’s Charity, Holy Rosary Church, Koats for Kids, and the House of Peace to name just a few. For nearly fifteen years we have organized an International Women’s Day celebration. At this luncheon, a Donna Dell’ Anno / woman of the year, who has made a profound difference in our community is awarded recognition and her charity of choice is financially supported. Our big event this year will be a fashion show fundraiser to assist the Mood Disorders Association. This self-help organization is dedicated to providing support, education and advocacy for those living with mental health challenges. Join us for this festive and important evening on May 4, 2018. La Lupa di Roma women not only provide assistance to those in need, we also have fun in the process. We have enjoyed evenings of bingo bowling, paint nights, cupcake and cookie decorating, bud spud and steak events, getaways and girls’ night out at the spa and more. We encourage like-minded females who share our passion to join us in our efforts and fun. Our Lodge works hand in hand with our Brothers in many charitable activities and events which bring our community closer together. We proudly stand beside them today and applaud their tremendous efforts. Again this year, we wish all those attending another gala full of great company, delicious food and enjoyment, alla italiana! Buon divertimento! Monachino On behalf of the National Council of the Order Sons of Italy of Canada, our filial lodge Presidents and members across this great country of Canada, I’m honoured to bring “accorato messaggi di saluti”. Our moto is Liberty, Equality and Fraternity. Today we stress our “Fraternity” as being a service organization not only assisting those in need in the Italian- Canadian Community but also the Canadian community at large. It is our goal to be of service to those that are in need in our communities. The Garibaldi Lodge, along with the Lupa di Roma Lodge in Winnipeg continue to be leading examples of what our Order represents and being one of the largest benevolent Lodges. The charity committee must certainly have its challenges selecting a charity to support with so many worthy deserving causes. This year’s choice, the Seven Oaks General Hospital Foundation and the Chronic Disease Innovation Centre is a befitting choice. Going beyond traditional caregiving, it focuses on the prevention and management of chronic diseases through its unique medically integrated model of health and wellness. I’m also honoured to congratulate Dr. Rayleen V. De Luca, C.Psych., C.M., O.M. on being selected as the 2018 CIBPA, Professional of the Year. Dr. De Luca, your list of accomplishments are remarkable as indicated by your recognitions and awards from your peers. To President Tom, your dedicated Executive, Gala Co-Chairs and hardworking committee, congratulations on a successful event which makes the Order Sons of Italy of Canada proud of your generous contributions to the Winnipeg, Manitoba community. Tanti Auguri! Fraternally, Joseph S. Monachino Order Sons of Italy of Canada National President 6 2018 Sons of Italy/CIBPA Gala Dinner www.sonsofitaly.ca greetings National Federation of CIBPA National President Robert sacco It is with great pleasure that I extend my warmest greetings to everyone attending the annual Sons of Italy/ Canadian Italian Business and Professional Association (CIBPA) Gala. The National Federation was launched on July 1, 1989 and has 11 registered chapters throughout Canada, our newest one is in Calgary. We are very proud to report that our CIBPA Chapters have helped to fundraise and distribute over $10 million to various Canadian community based charities and education programs. The majority of our donations were made to hospitals, seniors’ residents and students that receive government assistance, with almost half of the funds distributed to more than 3,000 students. The CIBPA and other Italian Canadian organizations created “The Italy Earthquake Relief Fund” (TIERF) to help the people affected by the massive earthquake in central Italy on Aug. 24, 2016. To date TIERF has raised over $1.6 million On December 22, 2017 TIERF completed the donation of 2 “Tele Mobile Hospitals” to Science For Life (SFL) an Italian Charity at a cost of 375,000 Euros each ($1.3 million donation). When these technology enabled “mobile hospitals” are not assisting in natural disasters, they will be used as hospitals in small towns that lack medical facilities. SFL is in the process of sending these mobile hospitals to the cities most affected by the earthquake. Over the past 31 years the Sons of Italy and later the CIBPA has worked to build a vibrant community of business professionals, supporting Winnipeg’s economic growth and development. We have gathered together and have an opportunity to reflect on the association’s many accomplishments, while celebrating the many contributions made by Italian Canadians. This year’s charity of choice is the Seven Oaks General Hospital Foundation to help continue its good works for future generation. This is another great example of our commitment to the community and to Canada. It is fitting that tonight we also honour Dr. Rayleen De Luca for the 2018 CIBPA Professional of the Year Award for her professionalism, leadership and commitment to her profession. On behalf of the National Federation CIBPA, I wish you all a wonderful anniversary celebration, as well as continued success.
