Melbourne Theatre Company’s 2017 Season features eleven mainstage productions, an extensive Education Program and touring education production, plus a range of industry-leading initiatives including MTC’s Women in Theatre Program, NEON NEXT, MTC CONNECT and Cybec Electric. The season opens in grand period style with Garson Kanin’s 1940s Broadway classic Born Yesterday – a screwball romance directed by MTC Associate Director Dean Byrant, starring Christie Whelan Browne and Joel Jackson. The incomparable Helen Morse and Julia Blake return to the stage alongside Ursula Mills making her MTC debut in John, the latest highly acclaimed work from Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Annie Baker, directed by MTC Associate Director Sarah Goodes. Nelson Thesis Advisor Dr. Brad Anderson Signed Ball State University Muncie, Indiana December 2015 Expected Date of Graduation December 2015 Fixing the American Trucking Industry 2 Abstract: The American trucking industry is currently facing both a major shortage of truck drivers and an immensely high rate of truck driver turnover. These problems have remained persistent for over two decades, and are expected to worsen in the years to come. Every day, trucking companies are faced with a lack of capacity and increasing administrative costs. This paper attempts to analyze the trucking industry using economics, industry trends, and past failed solutions. The end goal of this paper is to present justified solutions for both the driver shortage and elevated driver turnover. These solutions aim to fix the problems themselves, and also to . provide a sustainable plan of action moving forward. Additionally, these solutions aim not only to benefit trucking companies, but also the entire logistics industry and American economy.     Australian multicultural policy and television drama in comparative contexts Harvey May BA (Comm), BA, B Bus (Hons)(Comm), Post Grad Dip Ed A thesis submitted in 2003 for the award of Doctor of Philosophy Creative Industries Research and Applications Centre Creative Industries Faculty Queensland University of Technology Key Words Multiculturalism, Cultural Diversity, Television, Drama, Casting, Minorities, Australia, United Kingdom, New Zealand, United States. Abstract This thesis examines changes which have occurred since the late 1980s and early 1990s with respect to the representation of cultural diversity on Australian popular drama programming. The thesis finds that a significant number of actors of diverse cultural and linguistic background have negotiated the television industry employment process to obtain acting roles in a lead capacity. The majority of these actors are from the second generation of immigrants, who increasingly make up a significant component of Australia’s multicultural population. The way in which these actors are portrayed on- screen has also shifted from one of a ‘performed’ ethnicity, to an ‘everyday’ portrayal. The thesis develops an analysis which connects the development and broad political support for multicultural policy as expressed in the National Agenda for a Multicultural Australia to the changes in both employment and representation practices in popular television programming in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The thesis addresses multicultural debates by arguing for a mainstreaming position. The thesis makes detailed comparison of cultural diversity and television in the jurisdictions of the United States, the United Kingdom and New Zealand to support the broad argument that cultural diversity policy measures produce observable outcomes in television programming.
