Ms. May has a long history of advocating for education, workforce training, human capital development, and economic development in communities where the needs are the greatest. Replacing the late, Honorable Marion Barry, Ms. May recently served as a member of the DC Council, representing the residents of Ward 8, As a member of the Health and Human Services Committee, Housing Committee, and Judiciary Committee, Ms. May was able to work on issues that had drastic impacts on her constituents, particularly women and children. During her tenure on the Council, Ms. May led the women on the Council to form the DC Council Women’s Group (CWG) and became the group’s first selected Chairman, Ms. May’s commitment to the next generation of leaders is evident through her creation of the Dreamer’s Program — a longevity program that has provided opportunities and resources for underserved children in the District of Columbia. In addition, as the Executive Director of Vision of Victory Community Development Corporation, she led the child development center to becoming a nationally accredited center and built a 91-unit affordable housing project for seniors. A Ward 8 resident, Ms. May received a Bachelor of Science from Eckerd College, a Master of Arts in Education and Human Development from The George Washington University, and a Juris Doctor from the University of the District of Columbia.
