It’s been a whole school-summer-holiday since the newly improved play park opened its gates again. We hope everyone has enjoyed exploring the lovely new play equipment? We certainly have! It’s been a roller coaster of a journey over the last few years, but it’s been a fantastic project and completely worthwhile now we can see everyone enjoying it. We are currently trying to secure the purchase & installation of a second football goal end with remaining funds so watch this space... Thank you so much for everyone’s support of this project.

We had an eventful summer at school this year! The year 6 SATs were our first major event. I am sure you are all aware just how important these are to us and our pupils, and this year was no exception! We had a wonderful group of children who worked extremely hard all year and their results are proof of that – 87.5% combined score which is above the national score! Congratulations to our pupils; we were sad to see them leave but know they will all continue to be successful at King Edward VI Secondary School. At Ickworth Park we see this success as a culmination of 7 years teaching and learning, not just the result of the considerable work in year 6. Now I know gardeners always blame the weather when their gardens are not at their best, but I think this year they can say that with a great deal of justification. It is no exaggeration to say conditions have been challenging for flowers, fruit and vegetables and I am full of admiration for those who rose to the occasion and produced some amazing result. The entries were, obviously, down compared with usual but a big thank you to all of you for your commitment to making the Show a success. Special thanks to the WI for organising the refreshment and Lisa for getting Hedgehogs to produce some very interesting potato prints. On another gloriously sunny Sunday morning the second Ickworth Park cricket festival got underway promptly with an opening match featuring our neighbouring villages of Barrow & Whepstead. In a keenly contested encounter Barrow emerged as winners chasing down a total of 61 with 7 wickets in hand. The second match saw hosts Horringer batting first & setting a total of 67 which they narrowly managed to defend with the Barrow Buccaneers falling short by 10 runs. Time was then set aside to enable a Women’s soft ball cricket event played in front of a growing crowd of spectators. 16 ladies participated who enjoyed their introduction to the game arranged by the Suffolk Cricket Board. During this interval the festival players were able to circulate among the many food stalls & perhaps an occasional visit to the beer tent. Particular thanks are due to the Haverhill Lions Club who ran the barbecue & to Ann & Gary Hunt plus granddaughter Jenny for serving a delicious paella, & to the Horringer cricketing lads for providing an array of tasty Asian snacks.
